As always, great professional advice. A million miles from my own trade as a stone mason, however, I have always marvelled at another pros skills. I never imagined buying a boat was going to be so complex. A great lesson for those thinking it's 'plain sailing' to buy a boat lol and thankfully we have pros like you to show us and advise us on the way to go. Thank you yet again for your skills and advice mate.

Two years later this motor is going strong kzbin.infoUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

Have Lithium batteries and better trolling motors replaced kicker motors yet? I haven't switched to Lithium batteries yet for my trolling motor. Last fall a new large Ranger walleye boat came by us trolling maybe crank baits (?), appeared they were doing alright with the latest 36v choices.

Why can’t the kicker just be placed in the transom directly? Based on the video it looks like it could be or is it because the shaft is too small on this particular kicker.

Thanx so much for this video, it is very informative and detailed helped me out a lot. I used a Garelick mount on a Grady with a Yamaha 9.9 the skeg sits in the water about two inches when tilted up docked but when going apx 10 mph tilted up it clears the water does that seem normal I have looked for pictures of boats with their kickers up at dock and can not find any, thanks again for your great video and any help you can offer.

Awesome glad you liked the video and it helped you out! That sounds totally normal.. my pro kicker on my thunder jet needs to be a XL shaft but with the offshore bracket the skeg will touch the water on plane from time to time.. let me know if you have any questions.. thanks for watching! Hey Jason Great video, you must be reading my mind. I just installed a mini Kota two bank charger! Now I want to install a kicker motor mount. I have a question? I want to install a platform mount! Currently I have have retractable ladder now hold 250 lbs. I think it should hold a 9.9 motor?

Reel Life Fisherman Jason need to get batteries, currently I request deep cycle 31 series, but they are out. They gave in stock a 40 series deep cycle. What is the difference other then price?
@ReelLifeFisherman4 жыл бұрын
The group size is basically the battery size Dimensions .. a bigger battery will have a longer run time.. but will also be harder to fit and take longer to charge.. and obviously weigh more

Hey Jason, I watched your video about 5 times, checking and rechecking measurements on my 1997 17' Starcraft (how big was Starcraft boat you were working on). My kicker is a new Merc 8hp, so its a little longer than the 3.5hp (20" vs 17"). The way mine measured out was attaching right at the top of the hull with the Panther bracket. I was stressing over taking all the decking out, as you did, given I think mine requires the entire side panels to be removed on both sides and it looks like its been riveted on in a number of places. As it worked out, I didn't remove the decking and ended up using 2 heavy duty self tapping stainless screws on the bottom portion of the Panther bracket rather than using lag screws and nuts (where I'd have to get to the inside of the hull). Hope it will be secure enough with the lag screws/nuts on top (exposed above the decking) and self-tapping on the bottom of the bracket. Thanks for the video, it was a great help in giving me the confidence to drill and mount my new kicker!

Most of the load will be on the the top bolts.. we install ladders and small swim platforms the way you did.. I’m sure it will be fine .. but always keep an eye on it just in case.. they would get the most load trailering and hitting bumps in the road.. thanks for watching! Glad the video was helpful!

question: why does a small motor boat need a kicker motor? I understand auxiliary motors on sailboats and large power boats, but adding another motor so you can motor while you motor just seems a little redundant.
@ReelLifeFisherman Жыл бұрын
This is not my boat for one thing and I believe his main motor is a little small to have a kicker motor. But the idea of kicker motors is 1. Is to able to troll for fish at slower speeds then the main motor is capable of going. 2. To not put long hours on your main motor at low/idle rpm’s this is bad for Outboards to just remain at idle for long periods of time. 3. To yes have a motor to get back to dock if something happens with the main motor. But really it’s for long periods of trolling for fish . Thanks for watching the video

Hey Jason - am looking at installing a plate to make the transom a bit "taller" as the back of my tracker the transom doesn't stick up high enough above the floor to mount directly. Would you ever use lag screws going into the transom vs. bolts, or is it just always better to pull up the floor like you did in this vid to make sure you can use bolts? www.rnrd.com/marine-products/kicker-plates/ - plate I'm looking at putting on the transom.
@ReelLifeFisherman4 жыл бұрын
Dave Pitcher I would definitely recommend thru bolting it.. going across the water at higher speeds and traveling on the trailer can really be rough.. so would use bolts and washers for sure.. thanks for watching! And let me know if you have any questions..

Did I miss it or how did he install the fuel line
@ReelLifeFisherman4 жыл бұрын
He just hooks it up to a 3 gallon portable tank.. if you want to tie it into your main tank .. I would get a fuel water separator and split it there to the big motor and the kicker with a in line anti-siphon valve on the kicker side. Let me know if you have any questions anytime .. thanks for watching

If your boat has a long shaft outboard but you use one of these mounts for a kicker does it matter if the kicker is short shaft as long as the kicker can go down to where it needs to be in the water?
@ReelLifeFisherman4 жыл бұрын
Exactly this mount depending on where you mount it on your transom will allow you to adjust the height to fit your needs.. you want the anti- cavitation plate to be almost level or a few inches below the bottom of the hull.. with kickers a little lower is better.. as long as you can raise or tilt them up out of the water when on plane with the big motor.. thanks for watching.. and let me know if you have any questions..
@aviationnation77984 жыл бұрын
