Recorded on April 9, 2020.
As a columnist for the Wall Street Journal and a commentator for Fox News, Kim Strassel is a card-carrying member of the mainstream media. But Strassel is appalled by the media’s treatment of Donald Trump, and not just from journalists from the left. She describes the “resistance” in detail in her recent book, Resistance (at All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America. She and Peter Robinson discuss the Trump administration's handling of the COVID-19 crisis and the way the media has covered it and disseminated the information to the public. They also discuss the upcoming presidential election (yes, we are still having one) and the politics of the $2 trillion stimulus bill, with more spending on the way, and the realities of restarting the economy in a post- or partial-post-COVID-19 world. Finally, they discuss the pluses and minuses of Donald Trump’s temperament, and the possibility of something good coming from this current crisis.

Well done. This show is now my favorite. Peter Robinson, you are brilliant. Life all boils down to being able to ask the right questions. You ask the right ones and always manage to find the right answers. You had Kim Strassel as your guest. She and you are the personification of good, descent journalism. I find it refreshing in the midst of a thick media haze of yellow. Thank you both for being RESPONSIBLE and accountable. You both deserve awards. But my name is David Fryer, not David Pulitzer. Thank you for being mirrors of my views. DF

Brilliant woman, the one question I have continually, that no one will discuss, nobody ever brings up, is the reason coronavirus has the mortality rate that it does. It is because we have so many Americans that are already sick, overweight or obese, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD, that any infection would have a high likelihood of mortality. The problem isn't covid-19, as it is relatively merciful to the healthy, as opposed to influenza. The problem is there are tens of millions of Americans with such a high levels of dis-ease already. Our ICUs were already full, which is a sad commentary on the lack of personal accountability for health in our society, and a lack of accountability for our health care and our medical system. We treat the symptoms, not the underlying disease or the underlying causes of the disease. We treat obesity and high blood with antihypertensives and treatments for reversible diabetes. One of the staples of my pediatric practice is mental health/behavioral issues in younger children. There are fee if any drugs that we could or should give to children. That means I have to figure out the multiple underlying causalities. Sure, it's way harder, and it takes much more time and commitment from myself and the families, it is poorly reimbursed, but the outcomes are often transformative! Imagine if there were no pill to "cure" obesity-induced hypertension, that the solution was, for the most part, as it has always been, a dedicated commitment to a change in lifestyle/nutritional habits. why do we rarely see that happen, because nobody needs to do it, because there is a pill. and now all those people are at very high risk for dying from covid-19, because it is a virus that preys on the already sick body. Thank God it is not H1N1 that didn't discriminate who it killed! Now let's quarantine the at-risk, which statistically excludes our children, and get our country back to work.

My God! I Thanks to you both for for such a reasoned and civil discussion. It hurts my heart to hear the shrieking and wailing circus that happens during the daily briefings. I can understand about agendas and not liking a particular Individual. The Office of the President is rightly due a tremendous measure of respect, When the press (who are as important to the meeting when they report accurately and RESPECTFULLY deliver the the information to the people) hijacks the process by theatrics and then TELLING ME HOW I SHOULD Feel and whatI should think about the issues, well. The press has abandoned the people when they drive off the cliff as they do. Please, the country would be done a monumental service if you both would attend and participate in the process. In short, thank you for bringing almost an hour of sanity to my life. Respectfully, Timothy F

What a great interview. I applaud you for addressing some of the most important issues facing the world today. You have pointed out some of all that is rotten around this whole current fiasco. While I am not a fan of the way Trump presents himself I do believe that he is the man who really does appreciate the value and importance of the 99% and their contributions to the success of every economy. It is my opinion that the bean counters of the world are the biggest detriment and the cause of most of what we are now experiencing. BIG everything needs to be dismantled. We all need to be looking towards Sweden and their intelligent, balanced responsible approach in their handling the current situation. Trump had it right to get everyone working by Easter. If anything this event has highlighted the dismal state of the health of First World countries. The Big Pharma Medical establishment and BIG Corporate Food companies that churn out and aggressively push synthetic toxic junk food at the population are the problem. These are indeed sad times.

Kim's column in the WSJ is one of the few things I miss about no longer subscribing to the paper. The understanding of the economy from the left is about the same as their understanding of the virus, and since 99% of 'journalists' are on the left, why do we expect more?
