These past couple weeks I've been thinking alot about how vaping is affecting my running, going through reddit, mens health articles, etc. I've been running consistently for about a year now and I'm training for my first marathon, moving towards more mileage and speedwork very soon. I'm 23 and have been smoking since I was 17, cody talking about his struggles with it really just reaffirmed my thoughts and doubts about my nicotine usage. I also listen to the huberman podcast and reassured myself that I can vape while doing desk work to help me focus more. But cody talking about it came at the perfect time, I'm taking it as a sign and gonna take the steps towards quitting. Big Ups Insanely Chill.

Same boat, I had been vaping since 15. I’m 23 now and almost 2 years clean and feel SO MUCH BETTER!! the biggest difference I’ve noticed is increased lung capacity, I don’t get sick nearly as often, and I don’t randomly hack up phlegm throughout the day anymore. I can’t recommend getting off it enough 🙏🏼

@kelsi604
@kelsi604 5 ай бұрын
Fun fact, or not so fun ig lol, nicotine actually is shown to be detrimental to exercise performance due to its effect on blood vessels! There are many different studies out there that that support this, too. Basically, when you use nicotine, it causes your blood vessels to constrict which decreases blood flow to your muscles. This means that your muscles aren’t getting as much oxygen or nutrients that they need to function optimally, which impairs both performance and overall muscle growth.

i'm taking this pharmacology class and we just had a lecture on nicotine! nicotine (even just the chemical) IS harmful. nicotine replaces acetylcholine - it acts on acetylcholine receptors on neurons but it isn't properly degraded by the body like acetylcholine is (for example it stays around in the synapse and desensitizes the acetylcholine receptors) which makes it harmful to the body.. and nicotine acts most readily on the acetylcholine system in our brain ! which may explain nicotine causing anxiety idk.... but i feel you i am also prone to addiction

getting off Nicotine, specifically Zyn, has been super super hard (im about 10 days in). Like you mentioned, I finally realized how sh*t I felt - less energy, brain fog upon waking up, and the craziest one being I didnt dream anymore while using Zyn. My first day quitting i had a dream THAT night and was like wow, I haven't dreamt in months. Never faced real addiction in my life, but can say nicotine has definitely been that for me.

Nicotine is just like some kinds of things that are an addiction which aren't inherently "bad", food addiction, shopping addiction, coffee addiction, etc. It's about moderation, and realizing when it's really affecting your life. I think a lot of ppl have the misguided thought that bc you are taking the tobacco out of the equation that has tar and carcinogens that it's "better" health wise which is really only if you have used tobacco. And even then you should eventually try to quit all together as it's still a dependency that will have some albeit smaller effects on your health

As far as the zyn experience goes, I had a similar experience. I’ve used every type of nicotine as well, and zyns stuck for a good bit. One day, I noticed they made me feel like shit. Every single time I’d put one in I’d just feel awful. So I quit. My health definitely improved when stopping them. I believe nicotine does have adverse effects in terms of athletic ability as it restricts blood flow. For awhile there after I’d only do them when I drank, but I’ve fortunately quit completely.

I also feel like longterm nicotine usage cannot be good and i also just formed the habit at like 25 for no reason.

The nicotine part hit me. Never realized until now how long its been a part of my life, but its been about 10 years now. Cigarettes and then vaping. I quit vaping about 8 months ago because I was going to have my wisdom teeth removed and knew if i didnt i was going to be suffering through nicotine withdrawal on top of recoveirng from surgery(youre not supposed to "suck" after wisdom tooth removal because you can get dry socket). I realized after getting over the awful withdrawal symptoms that nicotine was actually causing all the symptoms I thought it was helping with; body aches, anxiety, insomnia. All of that went away when I quit. The worst part? I started vaping again 2 weeks ago because my vape shops didn't have any nic free vapes and even after months, I was still addicted to the oral fixation of vaping/smoking. Nicotine is no joke and I wish it was talked about more.

Totally felt the oral fixation part. I rarely crave nic or weed or anything like that, it’s just the feeling of smoking that I love. I have a nic free vape now and I love it

Cody and Kelsey having social anxiety helps me feel better about myself for some reason. if these two successful and cool people have social anxiety then that means that me having it is also okay

I have always thought vaping was stupid, but I went to a festival last year and got given loads of free packets of Nordic Spirits (UK Zyns) and over the span of 6 months I developed a full blown nicotine addiction. I've quit on and off for a few weeks due to not being able to afford 3/4 tubs a week, but I really think the side effects of them are not talked about enough!! Luckily I've never tried the 50mg tobacco ones, just 17mg nicotine, so I've only seen very minor signs of gum disease that prompted me to take breaks - but the craving never goes away! I'm glad Cody talked about this in his video as I thought it was some niche weird addiction I had developed, but I'm glad reading these comments that other people have experienced it too,

my partner has a nicotine addiction and he uses zyn. he goes through multiple packs a day and ALWAYS has one in his mouth. he goes to the gas station at least 2-3 times a day to get more, once in the morning before work, once on his lunch break, and usually one more time on his way home from work (he gets other stuff too like snacks and drinks so that's not the only reason why he goes, but he also always gets more zyn packs every time). the only time he doesn't have one in his mouth is when he's eating. he literally sleeps with one in! it definitely worries me. he's been addicted to nicotine for sooo long though and doesn't think he could ever actually break the habit because he feels like shit if he goes even a few hours without any. i really wish he would try to push through and quit. 😕 i just can't honestly believe that there isn't anything wrong/potentially dangerous about consuming nicotine, especially for such a long period of time. obviously, i can't force him to quit, that definitely has to be something he wants and is willing to put the work into or else it won't stick, but i do really hope he decides one day to call it quits for real. good on you, cody, for being two months nicotine free!

I started vaping in my last year of highschool, and I have been on and off of it for like 4 years. My anxiety got worse and worse, and the only thing that stopped me from using it was not being able to afford it.

Never had a zyn. Trying not to take it when people offer it because I feel like it’s a slippery slope. When I owned vapes they always gave me anxiety and made me take deep anxious breaths more. Never heard anyone mention it before so thanks Cody!
