On September 17, 1862, George B. McClellan and Robert E. Lee's forces collided in Sharpsburg, Maryland in what would become the bloodiest single day in American history. Join Garry Adelman, Kris White and Kevin Pawlak as we commemorate the 160th anniversary of the battle. #AntietamBattlefieldTour
This video is part of our coverage commemorating the 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. View the whole series here: • Antietam: 160th Annive...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Antietam and Gettysburg are two totally different experiences. Gettysburg feels like a Civil War theme park. Whereas Antietam's town, Sharpsburg, is so little changed from the 19th century it's incredible.

Thanks so much for all of these videos. I toured Antietam for the first time about 20 years ago...I lived in Frederick MD at the time, so I followed the course of both armies, driving along South Mountain and viewing the three main passes that saw action on Sept 14. Then toured Antietam as it was fought, starting on the northwest end and working my way south. It's alot to see in one day, but I'll never forget it. I hope to go back someday soon and take a few days this time.

I'm really enjoying these videos. Being from Florida, me and a friend did our take of some of the battlefields in our big loop. It took us 2 weeks. We visited Atlanta, Chattanooga, Gettysburg (150 th ), Antietam, Harper's Ferry, DC, , Baltimore, Charleston,, and Savannah. What a great 2 weeks it was. I enjoy learning about the Civil War. It wasn't the best time in American history, but it is history.

Thank you for showing the map at 13:30 minutes in. My 2nd Great Grandfather fought at Antietam in the 64th NY. Now I know what his company specifically did there - attacked Sunken Road with other NY Regiments. Thank you!

I'm sorry I couldn't watch this sooner! I'm too busy being here for it. I went to the 6:00pm opening program tonight. Learned so much I Never knew from it. Thank you to the Battlefield Trust and Garry for putting out these videos! You all inspired me to spend my last week in Harper's Ferry, Gettysburg and now Antietam. It's been so great and this channel and it's enthusiasm are why I am here now!!!

I want to give you a public thank you to you and American Battlefield Trust for you response to my e-mail and the link to the Antietam maps so that I could retrace my Great-Great-Grandfather's path with the 7th Georgia Inf. Even though I don't know where he was killed the fact that you sent me the info and link to the maps made the battlefield come alive for me. I hope to walk in his steps next year and marvel at the cost on both sides and the distance he had to travel from Cobb County Ga. Thank you and God bless you To anyone reading this please contribute, if you can, to the American Battlefield Trust. They are doing great work for all battlefields, Civil War and Revolutionary. Plus their online resources are top notch.

@Ha Ha I'm no battlefield guide but would even help you out during a visit :-). I know the battlefield really well. Is the only well preserved battlefield (protected) in Belgium and around. There are masses battlefields in Belgium, but hardly anybody knows about them, and they are not protected. But i know to find original fighting positions from the battle of the Bulge, since al lot of them are in undeveloped area's.

These things tend to be seasonal, and tend to get hit more than once, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was another trip at some point. I remember reading about the whole Chief Joseph thing as a kid, and that would certainly be interesting to do a footsteps trip about that, maybe start a new angle for preserving those spots as well.

Maybe I'm missing something in the comments, but the American Revolution and Civil War are the two wars with the majority of battlefields. There are a couple war of 1812 engagements and the fighting with the American Indians was seldom a battlefield as much as guerilla-type attacks. So I think the ABT does a great job in doing videos of the most important battles in American history.
