Omfg I see this misunderstood on the internet all the time. Age of consent (in most states) is 16 years old. Meaning kids 16 and older can legally have sex. They however cannot take/distribute images of themselves until 18. On top of that, most states have a Romeo and Juliet law, meaning someone 18 or older can have legal sex with someone 16+ as long as they were already in a relationship before the oldest turned 18. Most states have a grace period though (usually a max of three years difference in age down to the day) in other words a 20 year old would still not be allowed to have sex with a 16 year old since that is a 4 year difference. I did a ton of research on this when I was younger because my wife and I are highschool sweethearts who are 6 months apart and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t breaking any laws once I turned 18
