This is a little unrelated to the video but I rlly wanted to ask if the manhua is currently on hold? If so- is it because the artist is taking a break or are they just taking their time to do the next chapters? Whatever the answer is I respect it since Starembers art is extremely gorgeous and I don’t mind waiting for the nexts chapters. Side note : I really love your videos and thanks so much for posting content for the fandom!!! You were the reason I decided to give TGCF and MXTX a try and I honestly don’t regret it at all. My straight brother was the one who recommended me TGCF. He was surfing Netflix and started watching it without knowing it was a BL. He said he was blindsided by the sudden sexual tension between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng but he wasn't against it. He found it really interesting too. I hardly go out my way to watch anime because I'm kinda done with it. I'm glad I listened to him because I love this series and all the other ones too.

Just imagine how MXTX would feel should she know just how inspired and happy her works made people? I always thought I was a little weird for being obsessed over her novels, but Kictor talking about it helped me understand it’s a lot more than an obsession, it’s inspiration, it’s comfort, I thank you - I still have a weird relationship with TGCF, some of the best and worst things that have happened to me happened because of it, but it’s still so beautiful and I’m faithful to the story forever.

I discovered I was gay when I was 10 years old, when I realized that I loved the idea of Sasuke and Naruto being together. That's what got me into shipping and eventually got me into reading fanfiction in the family computer and reading Yaoi manga lol. I discovered danmei through my cousin who was visiting from China and she introduced MDZS to me around the time MXTX started releasing the chapters for it back in 2015 on jjwxc. I've been in love with Danmei ever since and as a gay Chinese man, I really couldn't ask for more.

Weirdly enough, it was the Percy Jackson books that started the pipeline that would lead me to TGCF, since that started my love of mythology based fantasy stories . I randomly discovered the donghua while scrolling through Netflix and found that it was a beautiful looking animated fantasy series (which I can never get enough of) , and then discovered the novels and manhua shortly afterwards and found it was basically everything I ever wanted in media. Though my gay content enjoyment came from consuming WLW content, which started with watching Sailor Uranus and Neptune compilations and the WLW rep in Western cartoons

I was just browsing Netflix and I always saw Heaven Official's Blessing but passed over it so many times because I wasn't used to the Chinese language in anime. Instead, I watched the movie Nezha, which I didn't know was Chinese until I started watching it. Afterwards, I thought wow that was really good, hmm might as well watch that show I kept passing over. At first I was like wow this is kind of boring, but the ending of the first episode had me hooked with the song One Flower, One Sword, and I liked Fu Yao and Nan Feng. But watching it further and San Lang and Xie Lian are interreacting, I'm like wow this is kind of gay. And then with the longing looks and San Lang's flirting and I'm like this is realllly gay. I was so caught off guard because I didn't think China made content like this, and by that point I was so engaged in their relationship and the ending had me so hooked I had to know everything about this series. I felt so blessed to know that there was not only a manhua, but also a book being translated into English that waws being released in a few days at that point. Not only that but finding out about Mo Dao Zu Shi, and Scum Villian too??? SO here I am now, learning mandarin, I've already read all the books, read all the manhuas, watched all the shows including the untamed and I've been hooked with so many more BLs on billibilli too. I'm so glad I fell into this rabbit hole it's helped me so much with my depression. :)

You summed up pretty much why I'm gravitated towards non-straight stories these days. The lack of sexism and weird power differential between the couple makes me feel like their relationship is more pure and made of genuine love, acceptance and respect. Also the reason why I like shows where a girl or boy cross dresses (circumstantial) and the opp sex falls for who they are platonically. I love the Taiwanese drama Bromance for this reason (not a Bl but more BL than many BLs, also a very convincing cross dressing from the FL)

I got into TGCF because I had an assignment to do in my Chinese Civilization Class in College, we had to do an essay on everything related to something we like in the Chinese Culture, it could be: books, dynasty, movie, Chinese women empowerment or anything. Everyone did something pretty different and I was so scared to do something somebody already did so I decided to search for a movie or a series to watch on Netflix that can be good to talk about in an essay. And it was on Netflix that I came across the TGCF’s series and I completely loved it from the start. Then I told myself “hey, maybe I should do an essay about this, it could be cool”. Our teacher was a big fan of Chinese culture, and I was too (still am). I did pretty good on my assignment (I don’t remember the mark I got tho but I know I passed) and I was very happy! Sorry for my English, I’m French and I’m still working on it ^^’

I was into anime since I was little as I grew up watching it with my dad back in the late 90s/early 00s, but when I was around 14, my boyfriend and I got really into shipping gay relationships in order to get the good gay content we baby gays needed - tumblr was DEFINITELY the place to go for all of that. I fell in love bl when I discovered no. 6 and then following that yuri on ice really sold me on how much I loved it. I finally felt able to find anime and manga that showed people like me without being flooded with awful stereotypes. I found mxtx through a small business I liked who made pins for mdzs and that was really the beginning of the end. I'd never heard of danmei before that and now tgcf has become my spin and I've discovered the joys of fandom all over again!

I basically discovered TGCF on Netflix. I moved to stay with my grandmother temporarily due to the pandemic. Since my grandmother has a smart tv and internet, my Aunt told me to log her Netflix account so we could watch movies. Some time after i logged in, i was searching for anime's to watch during the pandemic, and then i saw Heaven Official's Blessing. I added it to my list without knowing anything and i didn't watch it until the first days of December 2021. I decided to watch the wbole series and was obsessed. After i finished watching the first season of the donghua, in February i found the manhua and novel and started reading it. Since i had classes i only managed to finish the manhua only and left the novel unread. Until the end of March when i found your channel and started watching your content did i decide to finally finish the novel. I finished it around the mid of April. After that i was really obsessed. I found the other MXTX novels and their donghua's and decided to watch them until i fell deeper and deeper into the Danmei hole.

I found out about TGCF through The Untamed drama series. I loved it so much that I couldn't think about anything else. So, I found out that there are two more novels by MXTX. And I've seen a hell of a lot of comments on social media saying that TGCF is actually much better than MDZS. Back then I didn't believe it and thought - this can't be! But after reading it, I can say with confidence that this is the best story I've ever read so far. And it is so inspiring. I mean, as soon as I look at all this wonderful merch that I now have, I can't help myself, my heart starts filling with warmness.

The way you met stitch is so cute!! The way I got into danmei was through the untamed. I had seen some pictures on twitter of wwx when it was airing in 2019, and saw people crying over it lol. I thought it was another queer baiting show (which I was so tired of) and to make it worse one of the characters dies! so I stayed far away form it. Later in 2021 one of my friends on tumblr (which is still alive btw lol) was watching it so I decided to give it a shot. Then *blink* I watched the drama, read the novel, watched the donghua, listened to the audio drama. I haven't been able to resurface lmao I decided to read tgcf when I saw the cute little hualian chibi art with the umbrella and the bunnies, and saw all the pictures of the live action. I thought it looked so beautiful and didn't know anything about the story before reading it. It ended up being my favorite novel by far and then later I discovered your channel! Your channel has really helped me be more open and less embarrassed about my interests (which no one should be! but I have trauma lol). I feel like your channel has created a safe space to be free to talk about the content we enjoy. So thank you!

Man, I got into BL when I was about 16, when I first started reading fanfiction. At the time I had no clue what my sexuality was (or if I really had one, being on the asexual spectrum makes that weird idk). But I found that I enjoyed romantic plots no matter the gender and BL was something so different tonally from the typical romance that I read, and found it could be extreamly indearing. When TGCF first popped up on my radar, it was after a friend had watched the untamed and I had a been accumulating a list of stuff to watch. Just so happened that at the top of that list was TGCF. When I finished watching it, the untamed was next, to which neither of us realised it was the same author... we laughed our faces off when we found out.

BUT, I was really bored, so I decided to watch two episodes, which turned into three, then four, then the entire show in the span of a week. Fast forward a few weeks, I’m on KZbin and I see a crack video for The Untamed which I watch and see the main comment has a link to the source book. ever since I was a child, I always thought chinese and japanese culture was absolutely beatiful and always wanted to see an anime that was historical and stuff. then, soon after watching a few anime, I became a fujoshi (Naruto x Sasuke was the ship that made me obsessed with bl). in 2022 january 23, I watched the newest episode of Sasaki to Miyano (it's a really cute bl anime, I recommend it)and wanted more cute bl anime to watch. I googled "cute BL anime list" or something, and there was TGCF and MDZS which were what got me into the danmei fandom. I found your channel, watched almost if not every video of yours that didn't have any spoilers, downloaded Bilibili comics and now that is my life.

Same I got into gay ships, specifically Stucky and Cherik, I read yaoi and bl. I didn't know why I was obsessed with it, but then I saw MDZS post in recommended topics and I now can't get out of this. Thanks to tgfc I've found myself reading Yuri and other sapphic stories as well

My very long story: Undertale au's was actually my intro to gay ships, at first I started reading fanfics and they were both boys but I was like I see one of them as a girl which is absolutely dumb (and now makes me now cringe at when people change the gender of one of the characters to make it straight), after a while I just stopped seeing one of them as girls and since there were so many au's I started shipping them so lots of ships. Flash forward 4 years my obsession is still there but I want to try watching MHA because everyone was talking about it, so I watched it ship the heck out of tododeku then down the rabbit hole of gay anime (free, yoi, no.6, given) then manga and eventually manhua but still no signs of tgcf until I saw a tik tok about the donghua, breaking down the scene where xie Lian gives Hua Cheng his hat, then I immediately went to go watch it absolutely hooked down another rabbit hole then boom mxtx galore. And then I found you and you quickly became one of my, if not my number 1, favourite youtuber

i found BL through CLAMP, specifically, Fai and Kurogane, Subaru and Seishirou (holy crap is that one toxic), Toya and Yukito etc. and then found no.6 and was obsessed for years even after i started to get out of anime, stepped out of anime and wasnt a watcher of it for a year and a half, then i started getting recommended mdzs randomly, it looked good so i watched it. I was soooo confused! i went and read the book and i was obsessed so i went to find her other works! rest is history XD i definitely am a huge Jiang Cheng stan, mostly cuz I get his issues and trauma a bit. I also get Xie's trauma (especially the scene with the sword being stabbed into him multiple times, i have stage 4 endometriosis, i could feel his pain reading that. but also his anxiety and depression, i also dont know whether to laugh or cry many times.) my favorite couple is definitely hualian

I randomly found the first MDZS novel in a book store. When I bought it I knew nothing about it, except that it is a Chinese fantasy novel. I learned Chinese for 2 years and just got curious about Chinese books; I didn’t even know it was a BL. A fateful review on Goodreads said „I don’t want to be dramatic, but I would literally die for WangXian“ and that was enough for me to go „huh, this WangXian dude seems pretty cool, I‘m going to buy this!“. It was my first experience with BL ever and now I am completely obsessed - it’s safe to say that danmei has changed my life and it continues to make me incredibly happy every day. I‘ve made some wonderful friends along the way. I empathize with you a lot when you say you light up when talking about danmei/TGCF. :) Your videos are great!

I was used to watching anime, but mostly shounen. My first sports anime was Free which also led me to YOI (my first BL) and YOI is, to this day, my fav anime. After that, i just had to watch all BL to ever exist... which led me to TGCF. Since then, YOI and TGCF have been my all-time favorites, both these stories literally changed my life in many many aspects. I read all 8 TGCF books in 13 days, I would only read all day every day from start to finish. Anyway, bc YOI Ice Adolescence got cancelled (*crying in the corner*) i ended up getting recommended your videos, only to find out you're a YOI/TGCF freak like me. I love your channel and the energy.

I remember back in the early 2000’s when we still had dialup 😂 there was a website that was just a library of anime clips and most didn’t even have subtitles then! But the way I was introduced was Gravitation. Then way followed was people writing fan fiction from Digimon, Yu Yu Hakusho, role playing cross overs til we reached our current point 😆. But yes I absolutely agree, the relationships and how they develop is what totally hooked me. And in a lot of Chinese comics there is much censorship so you end up with huge focus on the character growth.

I saw really pretty FengQing art on Twitter during the time where those ship dynamic memes were popular. They were being posted a lot as enemies to lovers and I was SO intrigued. When I looked into the novel the plot sounded really interesting and I was really endeared by dumb romantic Hua Cheng, so I decided to give it a shot without spoiling too much. Fell head over heels in love with Xie Lian and Hua Cheng's relationship. I was about to start book 3 when I found your channel, and someone left a comment on one of your videos about FengQing being canon at the end and oh man ... I was so happy. I really thought it was gonna happen. I was poppin' the biggest bottles. My reasons for even getting invested in this series ... Canon!? 😳I got to the end of the books and extras and realised it was a JOKE comment, DAMN IT! 😤😖😩😭 At least AO3 was there for me in my hour of need! ❤

Glad to see another Marvel fan that fell down the rabbit hole and into wonderland too. There was so much fan content pouring in during the tumblr hayday, it was basically impossible not to get into 1 non-cannon ship, especially within the editing community. Expose to anime had already taken place, but my roommate at the time was also not so subtly pushing stuff like Sherlock, Supernatural, Hannibal, and Merlin onto our nightly watch list. That's when me, someone who didn't really enjoy romance at the time finally saw characters I wanted to root for 3:27 - 3:58 Wow, that kinda hits the nail on the head for me. TGCF is anime only for me right now but I'm off to read the books ✌

I have been watching anime for a long time and I came across tgcf donghua and I didn't know what it was. I've always been interested in historical or detective fantasy, and when there was romance, it's wonderful. But in tgcf, when i saw how Hua Cheng looks at Xie Lian...I knew that this was something. I wanted See them more. The atmosphere between them, the character of Xie Lian and the Hua Cheng's loyalty . Then I read the books and I was fascinated by the depth of their relationship. Going far beyond gender, beyond mortality and humanity, beyond good and evil. It is an amazing source of inspiration and I am not surprised that it impresses you so much. I was captivated by Hu Cheng's determination and the desperation of his life, which seemed like hell to him. And that he found light in Xie Lian, a reason to live, and even to exist. The moment Hua Cheng prayed in the temple and Xie Lian answered him was the most wonderful, memorable and heart-changing moment. Then he touched my soul. And for me also Hua Cheng's relationship with Lian is a symbol of the Truth, in which there is no good and evil (even, heaven has its evil secrets) and the darkness hides treasures. What unloved wants love and it is enough to give a chance to turn out that weakness can become the greatest strength. It has always amazed me in Hua Cheng that he is the Demon King, but his love for Xie Liana gave him the opportunity to be so much more. His judgment was objective, absolute loyalty. Their account shows that darkness exists for the light, and when you think about it and delve into it, it is a true metaphor for life. At least that's how I perceive it

I heard about TGCF after I watched a video called “What Your Favorite MXTX Ship Says About You” (yes, I specifically watched that for Wangxian). I looked it up and was intrigued by the mythological elements. However, I saw your “What entering the TGCF fandom is like” video, and that was what pushed me to watch the donghua on Netflix. Some odd months later, I own the first two books, and Xie Lian is my comfort character (yes, I know that won’t bode well for me 😂). For real, though, if it weren’t for your video, I wouldn’t have had the push to watch TGCF. Thank you so much!

My entry into the BL world was thanks to Yuri On Ice. Although, my reason for watching was because of my love for skating. Then I thought these two were made for each other, but the comments were full of homophobes. I started with Junjou Romantica by asking if there are animes in this category if there are people who love it like me. I didn't even know what a Yaoi was. At the end of the anime, someone wrote that I'm going to watch MDZS now. So i entered the world of MXTX and i can't get out

Danmei got me back into reading after Sir Terry Pratchett passed away and I'm loving every moment.

Personally I’m not completely sure how I got into this fandom, since it’s kind of a blur now. One moment I was looking at romance animes, some gay stuff popped up, I got addicted, wanted more, searched for quality bl series, found MDSZ, then TGCF at my stepdad’s mother’s very religious house (the Netflix screen flashed the different series). Just by looking at th image I thought it was gay. I was so thirsty for a new bl series. I discovered that they had books, scavengers the internet, devoured the books within days but at night when everyone was asleep. Im a very fast reader and when I like a book I swallow it like a vacuum cleaner I’m glad that MXTXs books are encouraging more people to read. I was actually getting worried because not enough people were reading. But I’m so happy that people are excited to read something so good.

I watched a few episodes of the untamed (recommended by my sis), then watched Heaven official’s blessing following my friend’s recommendation. I thought TGCF was abt forbidden love and love triangles so when I found out it was the exact opposite I was surprised. In the end, I was frustrated that ep 13 had no kiss scene so I read the novel.

Funny enough, I found out about MXTX series from my own irl name. My Chinese name, I use two names so I don’t use my Chinese one often, is spelled the exact same as Jiang Cheng’s (except mine is one word, Jiangcheng as my family name), so when someone looked it up they were like “oh cool some anime character” . I was curious, investigates further, and then I found out it he was from a Danmei with a Donghua and novel. Then I was gone from then on… falling into TGCF a week afterward. Now it’s always in my head rent free, probably for a LONG time.

I fell into MXTX when a suggested video for Mo Dao Zu Shi popped up on KZbin. So I started watching the episodes and it was hard to follow so I thought I will just read this book so I can better understand the donghua better. LORD HAVE MERCY!!!! It tore me up! So I looked into the other books and read TGCF next. It took me about a week to finish because I couldn't put it down. I was reading it at work on my breaks and lunch, when I got home it was the first thing I did. I stopped long enough to eat and bathe but then I was right back to it. I have never been so shook by anything in my life. Then I read SVSSS. These novels have changed me and I think in a good way. So believe me when I say I feel exactly what you do. And I have made so many new friends on Facebook groups that love talking about these. I'm thankful for that because no one in my area even knows what the novels are. I dragged my son into watching Heaven Officials Blessing with me and he loves it now too. The first thing he said was "yeah, I ship them mom. "

thank you for sharing your journey! mine was quite different. i got into danmei since high school. and i was reading novels on my phone in my dormitory (that was several years before TGCF came out) and so because of the amount of media i've consumed, i got this quite high standard of what's a good enough danmei novel for my own taste. and several years later during my undergraduate studies at UIUC, i began to read TGCF when it's firstly official releasing on jinjiang (晋江文学城) at that time TGCF only had about 60-ish chapters i think. and i stayed up whole night finishing reading all the available chapters. and then i began to wait for the newest chapter along the time TTTTTT and TGCF is such a highhhhh quality danmei novel in my standard. i love it sososososo much.

I got into BL/yaoi in high school because I read a Yaoi manga at my friend's house, and I was HOOKED. Fast forward to about May of this year, and while going through the jungle that is KZbin, I came across an animatic of the bathtub scene from MDZS using the audio drama. Originally, I just passed it up in favour of things that I knew. One day, I had had enough of it floating around my home screen, so I watched it...and I have been falling into the bottomless pit of MXTX and Danmei ever since. I actually credit YOU Kictor for my wanting to get into TGCF! Thank you for existing and making this channel!

What actually stuck the idea of bl to me was probably nico and will from Percy Jackson, but it later resurfaced with Haikyuu with all the different pairings. And from then on, I searched up the pairings on google and read different fanfics and webtoons on tapas and then smut on *websites* and from then bl anime and ao3. And then Heaven Official’s Blessing on Netflix, but I got curious and started researching everything about them, then found them in bilibili and finally the books. I will never regret the journey I took to get to here. I will always be grateful for finding TGCF. It has changed my perspective on many things.

Anyway, At first I was hooked with yaoi doujinshis and fanfictions of various anime and games that were popular back then. Fast forward to this day I'm still hooked specifically with yaoi mangas(Japan), manhuas(China) and manhwas(Korea) and recently danmei! Mo Dao Zu Shi was my first ever danmei then I expanded to other MXTX works and other danmei authors. Oh what a ride.
