Omg I’m not a medical person but that’s what I thought when I read the first few chapters! Like I took the Wikipedia list of bpd symptoms and compared them, and thought He Yu fits the criteria: - fear of abandonment, self-harm, emotional dysregulation, feelings of emptiness, etc I was like omg so borderline personality disorder? But after that it revealed that the main point is the psychotic episodes so not quite One could think of it as bpd + psychotic episodes I guess Wait did you mean borderline personality disorder or bipolar- I’m not sure if I interpreted u right 😅 Either way thinking about it as modern wu’er-gu works well
@erosophic10 ай бұрын
@@evoraartemisia I meant borderline personality disorder, yes! I genuinely had to skip over some of the "psychological ebola" parts because it was so clearly her writing BPD and then acting like it was some supernatural crazy disease where everyone dies if they have it, lmao. Even the fact He Yu has a BPD split in the hotel was right on the money. I'm glad he ended up actually having supernatural powers, because otherwise I was sitting there going, "BPD is a thing! A lot of people have it!" 🤣
@murongliansdarlinglittlemochi9 ай бұрын
i think meatbun does know about bpd. but because she added some fantasy sci-fi element to it, she can't name or call it as bpd in the novel as it may lead to incorrect information or representation to the readers

@lavistelle603110 ай бұрын
This book is so insane 😭 totally worth it, it starts out funny, at least between the two main characters, but later the ANGST kicks in because it's not a Meatbun book without the angst. You are in for a ride
@cheibby10 ай бұрын
8:45 Another thing to consider while justifying He Yu’s homophobia is that he needed to pretend to be a normal person. In order to do that He Yu had to observe a lot of people, their actions and behaviour. As a result he "became" strong man who likes women and is homophobic because he based his personality and views on what society considers mostly "normal". This was actually confirmed by Meatbun in one of her notes under the chapter while the online version of the novel was still up. Btw, I also found the fantastical/sci-fi elements of the novel quite ridiculous. Additionally, the one thing I just couldn’t stomach was Xie Qingcheng becoming doctor at the age of 21. Just no… However, I’m still up for the upcoming ride. I promised myself I’ll read every Meatbun’s work even if it’s going to get angsty and painful.
@FluffyBorb10 ай бұрын
I haven't read the book so I don't know the context, but in China you can become a doctor with a 5 year Bachelors Degree program. So not quite as ridiculous if you consider that.
@cheibby10 ай бұрын
@ren9955 Yeah I understand but for me it's still too far-fetched. Let's assume that XQC really did finished his bachelor degree at the age of 21. The problem is that he became a specialized doctor for He Yu. I assumed since he was a therapist he needed to complete at least another few years of psychiatry study.
@islasullivan346310 ай бұрын
I always just assumed he was a child genius that got into college at around 15. That’s my head canon anyway.
@cileishere10 ай бұрын
I think you missed Meatbun's author note specifically on this event. Xie Qingcheng becoming a doctor at the age of 21. She specifically explained it in the author's note that it's a fictional world and she can make fictional settings in order for him to become a doctor at 21. He worked at a lab, he was a prodigy, so it did serve him quite well to become a doctor at 21. So I don't think it's far-fetched. It's justified, just like everything else. It's fiction.

All of this happens in 1 book! Sounds like a chunky beast of a book, damn. I wasn't sure about this one but you both make it sound...um... interesting. I am so curious about it. I read all 4 books of 2ha in like 3 weeks. I need some more Meatbun. Moden seems like it's going to be a whole new sh*tshow. The whole psychiatric arc made me think of Gothica (I think that is what it was called). That movie had some real messed up themes too, not enough gay though. Anyway, Thanks for the awesome and entertaining review. I picked up 2ha and Guardian because of your videos and loved them both. Once work is less busy I'm planning of reward myself with Yuwu. My TBR list is growing thanks to you two.

I’d like to offer some clarification on “blood toxin” 12:58 It sounds weird cause the translation doesn’t really get the meaning across. Not that it’s inaccurate, 蛊 does mean poison, but there’s a lot more connotation behind it. 蛊 means poison, but also “witchcraft”. It’s a kind of poison or curse specifically associated with witchcraft / dark magic, it can be used to kill, harm, or control someone. The last point is key: one meaning is “bewitchment” In fact in everyday language use, when not referring to dark magic, it means “bewitch” So 血蛊 can be translated as blood toxin, but the important background info is lost. It’s not just any toxin, it’s a toxin that bewitches people, like witchcraft or dark magic. Therefore when you hear the phrase in Chinese, you know it has to do with bewitchment, controlling someone. Before the book came out, 血蛊 was actually my main point of curiosity about the translation. I couldn’t think of any way to translate it except call it “blood-gu” and explain what gu was. Blood toxin isn’t bad but it loses the meaning. In the glossaries of some danmei, such as Remnants of Filth 3, “gu” is explained, you can check that out. And for the record, this is a different word than Chang Geng’s “wu’er-gu”, different gu PS: I LOVE YOUR OUTFITS especially Doctor Kictor!!! Love you two ❤
@Kictor10 ай бұрын
Wow that’s super interesting! It definitely would give a different vibe if I knew there was a bewitching element straight from the word!! Thank you for explaining that’s so cool!! :)

That and I just couldn't feel any chemistry between the main characters aside from the coffee scene. The rest feels forced. I finished the novel yesterday at 3am , nd now I feel so empty. I was so satisfied with the ending nd happy that the author decided to make it a happy one cus FINALLY those love sick dudes got their happy ending together 😭 . I just wish he yu had his child with xie Qingcheng cus poor guy he was so obsessed with making him pregnant 🤣. The whole novel made me cry most of the time but let’s be honest , he yu’s death was so tragic .. not cus of him , cus of xie qingcheng ..that man lost one of his eye sight nd his hair turned white out of sadness.. in the honor of that imma mention some of his magical quotes that made me wanna kill myself 😭😭💔 “He remembered that Yu He used to say that his eyes were beautiful. Maybe Yu He really hated him when he left, took away one of his eyes and his eyes became a blood-red rose that went with him. Yu He picked this rose. That's not a bad thing, if he likes it.“ “His heart had died with Yu He. And where else would the dead person feel any pain“ “Kid ...... let me hug you again ......" "It's the last time." “Yuhe.. I can’t see your face anymore I can’t see your face anymore haven't seen you since the night of the naval battle.“ “He wondered if Yu He had been like this when he held him once upon a time, like holding a piece of ice or stone that would never respond, kissing frost and snow.“ “Although this body is no longer useful to him, but as long as he needs a candle in the long dark night, he can continue to burn his body until it turns to ashes.“ “The eyes are the windows to the soul, do you know why your eyes are not healing, or even getting worse? It must be because your heart is sealed, and deep down you don't want to see what's happening now, so your eyes have given up on saving themselves “
