There's a plethora of secrets hidden within CD copies of Kid A! Some tucked beneath the plastic tray of the case and others lurking within the music itself. I hope that after watching this video you've learned some cool new things about this album!

I found an easter egg from both the 2 + 2 = 5 EP's. If you take of the jewel case and look at the left hand side of the background art, you can find word's that say "WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. 2 + 2 = 5." I think I'm the first one to find this easter egg.

For disassembling a jewel case: There are 2 tiny inner tabs on the top and bottom (totaling 4 tabs) connecting the tray to the backside of the jewel case (these can be spotted as little circular holes on the top right, top left, bottom right, and bottom left of the jewel case) To untab the tabs; use something extremely thin to get at the tab and gently pry it open while pulling away at another part of the tray to help it untab (I usually start from hinge side of the case as the hinge part of the tray tends to has a nice lip to grip and flexes better). that's 1 tab down and 1 more to go as the tab below the one you just freed will also free itself as it's no longer under pressure, so just do the same for one of the remaining tabs and voila! you are now inside of Kid A! I used to use the edge of my thumb nail for prying, but I've also had massive success with the toothpick off of my swiss army knife, but the more traditional rounded wooden toothpick can work just as well so long as you push it in a crevice that's between the tab and the rest of the plastic, as a woody won't fit very nicely when pushing directly on the tab unlike the flatter SAK pick (funny enough I found out about the toothpick trick with my own 1st edition copy of Kid A that I got after watching this video, since the edge of my thumb got bruised earlier in the day). Use whatever tools and items you already got laying around and see what works best for you Thanks for making this video, I adore CDs and would love to see you cover other interesting physical releases of other Radiohead albums (namely the OKNOTOK release of OK Computer, as I still don't quite fully comprehend it)

Thanks for the detailed instructions! Now I can finally stop mangling poor innocent CD cases just to see what's inside of them. I'll definitely get into other physical releases when I get around to them, like the TKOL Newspaper Edition, In Rainbows Special Edition, the EMI cash grab releases, etc. and I'll definitely look into the OKNOTOK stuff. It's still up in the air whether I want to do it as a separate contained video or include them when I cover each respective album, ideally too I'd have to purchase some of them first.

At first the video title reminded me of Cybershell's Sonic CD Secrets video, but even if the intent was to reference it or not, this video is still very fun and unique on its own. I'm not the biggest Radiohead fan, but hearing all these secrets and tid bits is really fun, keep up the good work
@pookapeeka
@pookapeeka Жыл бұрын
Yes!!!! That is precisely what the reference is lmao, I'm so glad someone got that. I'm like the biggest Cybershell fan ever and I was originally gonna call this video just "Kid A's Hidden Booklet (and more)", but I realized I could fit that reference in and did that instead. Which is cool also because the original title was very boring. Thank you so much for your nice comments too. I feel very relieved with someone saying my video is unique. I'm super influenced by Cybershell and Running Shine to a point where I had a lot of fear about uploading anything because I felt like people would just think I'm an impersonator. I just have a hard time gauging that sort of thing myself and it led to a lot of anxiety, but it feels good to know that isn't entirely the case.
@TheAnimeHistorian220
@TheAnimeHistorian220 Жыл бұрын
@@pookapeeka Don't worry about the impersonator problem, everyone has their own unique style of editing, humor and scriptwriting that makes their videos unique. Even then, by taking influence from 2 different creators and making videos on a different topic from them, thats already very unique on its own, at least in my humble opinion. I also had some confidence issues when it came to copying other people's content but after a while, i was able to make my own style by making a mix of all of those influences and im proud of how it turned out, and you should to (after all, your humor is probably better than anything I could ever write), can't wait for the next video!

Thanks for the video! Brought back some memories for me. I rented one of the earlier versions of Kid A (one with some recording error of sorts that shifted the tracks for 43 seconds so that the ending of one track was the beginning of the next one) from the local library years ago. I noticed a face in the hole of the CD case, pried it open, and there was the booklet. It added to the creepy atmosphere of the album to me. You mentioned in the Radiohead iceberg about a video you were considering making about the Muse and Coldplay comparisons to them. Is that still something you’re potentially doing because I think it could be really interesting. After each band evolved more then the comparisons became less fair and mostly surface level, but the earliest couple record from both bands as well as artists like Travis and Remy Zero show an immediate influence. You could argue each band respectively took a few tracks from either The Bends or OK Computer era and crafted their own sound around that. The album Parachutes is very much like Lift or High & Dry. Showbiz evokes The Trickster or even something like Exit Music. Then bands like Travis were more so going for the Fake Plastic Trees sound on a record like The Man Who.

about the 9/11 thing: thom says in the christie's interview how there was this energy "of something bad about to happen" when talking about some of the art. Theres a piece called trade center (sick painting look it up), and stanley donwood talks about his thoughts on representing power structures and his horror at the events going on in the balkans at the time. I think they kinda just knew something was gonna happen but they cast a wide enough net that they kinda predicted it. still eerie to see some of the stuff regardless also they played a show in berlin on 9/11 and there used to be some clips on citizen insane but i can't find them. a quote I saw tho "so who here doesn't know about it? everybody knows what i'm talking about? don't know what i'm talking about? know about the airplanes in america? that's why things are a little bit mute tonight. i'm sorry about that. this is called paranoid android..."

Have you seen the ‘extra’ album material in the King of Limb’s 10” Clear vinyl that has perforated paper that seems to be prepared to be easily appropriated for tabs of acid should a dealer see fit… and a newspaper, reminiscent of Tulls’ ‘Thick as. Brick’ but as a graphic Daily Mail. Strange, frightening and beautiful package. I’m so naive but I dig the lore and mystery that’s created as a companion to the music, the vibe. If you'd like something similar though to bide the time, you should check out this video by Carbonated Dipping Jam. It's 9 hours long and it's fantastic, goes very in depth into each album. kzbin.info/www/bejne/moirlpJ9fa-AfNEsi=_DeZ_El-JbEJ-XtG

Where did you find the blip that's blurred out in the background around 12:30? That one was never officially released.

I’m pretty sure that’s an unreleased music video for Motion Picture Soundtrack. It uses clips from existing blips

@weird_fiches on Instagram told me that it varies by region, and that there can be a booklet regardless of insert color. As a general rule of thumb for EU/US regions, the glossy black plastic tray will usually be the one to have the booklet. I can verify that rereleases in the US from XL with the transparent tray do not have the booklet, but will sometimes have art that resembles the first page of the booklet. It sounds to me like you have that version.

Those Harbor Freight light blue gloves are more unsettling than any hidden fact about the band, too many memories of cleaning shit around the house and doing weeks of mechanic work because your dad is too stubborn and cheap to pay for a professional to fix shit and it ends up costing the same amount of money in the end. Just realized that I'm a 40 year old man who gets annoyed by blue gloves wtf is wrong with me smh nice video either way bruh👌
