Skip to 4:14 if you just want to see the big reveal!
My Dad has wanted a BMW motorcycle since I was 12. He used to ride before I was born, but had an accident and hasn't been able to bring himself to buy another bike. He would romanticize about the idea every year, but never did it. And then a few years ago, he ran into financial trouble with the real estate collapse, making it even more unlikely. So I knew I had to pull this together for him. My Dad has given me so much, and it was time to give something back.
It was when I was 12, while witnessing the excitement in my Dad's eyes starring at BMW's then top-of-the-line bike in the showroom of a BMW motorcycle dealership in Daytona Beach during Daytona Bike Week 2002 that I decided I was going to buy it for him (if he didn't beat me to it). And I had tried to make it happen almost every Christmas since 2005. But I was never able to pull it together. Finally, in October 2013, I decided that no matter what, Christmas 2013 was the year it was going to happen!
So I set out to accomplish my decade-long mission to buy him the bike that he's wanted for over half my life and get him riding again and back to what he loved to do.
It took me almost 12 years to realize, but surprising him with it made it all worthwhile.
This mission, dubbed "Operation Motorrad," is the culmination of my decade-long goal to buy my Dad a top-of-the-line BMW motorcycle. This video is the HUGE, massively elaborate surprise that involved months of planning and coordination, 4 hidden cameras, many white lies to keep it a secret, satellite imagery, a childhood best friend's parent's garage, 3 videographers, and an endless list of steps that had to go exactly according to plan... and DID!
And in the end, it was all totally worth it. My Dad is finally back on a bike, has since re-taken the MSF's (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) riding training school, regained his confidence riding, and we're planning a 2,000 mile roadtrip together across the US and Canada on both of our bikes in the next few months.
(Should of been mentioned in the video, but the house in the background doesn't belong to my parents. They aren't financially wealthy and were not in a position to purchase this on their own. I'll leave it at that.)

envy is such a horrible thing, the guy in this video made a great thing for his dad, never claimed they were poor, only said that his dad hadn´t had the chance to buying the bike and I believe him, so, instead of pissing on this guy´s love for his father maybe the haters should look in their lives and see why they are like that? Smile more and enjoy life, and stop being pissed off by everything you see and cannot have...

I'm a 64 years old biker. I ride everyday. Even commute to work. My son lives in Miami and is a biker too. My bikes are my life (own 2 H-D). Last Xmas I bought an Ultra Classic '15. All I can say is this: don't you read those ugly comments. Some people don't even deserve you to give them a simple reply. You did great! Probably gave you dad the best he could expect from life at his age. I know about it... I don't care if he or you or your brother could afford it. It doesn't matter. What count, what matter here is your love, your effort, your dedication to give back to your father part of what you said he did earlier for you. Congratulations!!! Very well done.

Dude, your Dad will cherish the memories... The thoughtfulness cannot be repaid with a 100 units of K1600GTL's or a BMW HP4's. My point is: no amount of money can measure how you made your Dad smile on that christmas day... Whether or not people can afford to buy a present for Dad this expensive, anything that makes him feel special counts. You nailed it ! And people learned about your kindness to your Dad... Now, we will start thinking what can we do to make someone in our family this happy on a christmas day or any day for that matter. Thanks for the video... You are so kind.

Amazing video. Amazing son. Really shows he loves his dad. A Lesson learned. Gratitude for lesson. So..... my 74 year old dad & mom raised 5 kids not much time for travel through the years. I lost my mother to breast cancer in 2017 so my parents never have been outside of the USA or California for that matter. My father is alone without my mother now so I took my lesson from this video and got my dad a 8 day cruise to the Caribbean. Staying a couple of nights in Miami before embarking on cruise to the Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Cozumel. Feels good to thank my father for raising now a good man and father myself. Only regret is I should have done this years ago so that my beautiful mother could have gone with him instead of me. But it will be quality father and son time. Just like he would give me and my siblings when we we kids. I love you dad.

This story made me cry ! What a gesture, and it's NOT about money, it's about a dream of a beloved that you made real ! I just turned fifthy... and just ordered a new BMW GS1200 Lc. When I hesitated to buy the BMW, my son said to me : "well, dad, just DO it. .. it will be your last motorbike anyway ... ! I ordered the bike the next day... Life is too short to wait !

Chris: I assume you live in the USA. You have every opportunity to make it in this life. Financial step #1 You get control of your money. Do not let money control you. Money talks it says "SPEND SPEND ME" You tell money Shut up, sit down and Stay" Begin now weekly putting money in a savings account and tell it to stay. Consistently add to it, not allowing your lust for things you do not need to cause you to withdraw it. Do this for 5 Years and you will be on your way. Quit letting money control you, and quit buying things you do not NEED! Work hard and save. It is so Simple. I have never made over $50,000 a year i have a wife and family at 46 years old I have a good chunk of change in the bank, everything is paid for except the house. I have $150,000 equity in my home with only $40,000 left to pay on it. Just do it! Make good habits!

jack zipper You know it's not about class strata and being born rich, these folks say they worked hard for it. Pops was busy providing a good home and worked to send his kids to college. The giving son took decades he said to finally pay his dad back for sacrificing his own desires of wanting a BMW bike. If he was so rich how come he didn't buy a bike years ago. No, you are jealous because you are a loser just like me. Your distain is more racial against whitey not against what you think is elitism or privileged people. Look back and see the missed opportunities you didn't take advantage of because you thought were square and not cool enough for you. Yeah, coulda, woulda, shoulda. I got many of those too. My bitterness is toward myself not on folks who tried and beat the odds. Your attitude will get you into that middle class neighborhood also, just in the garbage can left at the curb. Have a nice cardboard box.

He made it clear they were at his brothers,not his parent's house...He never said they were poor,and never said they weren't wealthy.. but "affording" a 30k motorcycle can still be outside a big families budget, considering possible college,medical,business costs etc....He didn't ask for anyone's sympathy or charitable contributions ,he just did something for his Dad that his Dad would not do for himself..

No one here has the right to take away from what this son did for his father. I commend it. I know, I had some of the same thoughts as the one complaining about his money problems, but I also understand another side to things. Mom and Dad earned the right to own a Mercedes car, and live in a fancy house, and they also, most-likely, in this case, also instilled some good values into their son, and didn't spoil him as much as some people would like to assume. He did this on his own, at age 23, and that's pretty impressive. Terrible of Jack Zipper to run his mouth off, when the intent was to share a wonderful event, rather than be trolled by someone who is jealous and perhaps feels sorry for himself. I'm not rich, either. Not even close. And you need to realize that the son also has the payments to make. Credit lines are what they are, he can get approved, he doesn't actually have the money up front. He's making payments, which actually make him poorer than those of us without them. You talk about your R1, also a 30,000 dollar motorcycle, and you complain about having 50 bucks in the bank. Maybe you should prioritize your budget and sell the bike so that you can live within you means.
@marcot401
@marcot401 9 жыл бұрын
I agree I think the guy with the R1 should sell it and buy a tricycle for his cry baby and disrespectful response to your excellent video. I don't understand why R-1 had to blow his mouth in such a negative way. I think the man did a GREAT thing buying his father what he wanted. It was well though out and them memories will last forever. God bless you for that.

Give the kid some credit, rich or not rich. It's his brother's house, not the parents or his. Mom drives an old Mercedes that can be bought for about $10,000 now. Maybe Mom and Dad have gone through some tough times. Maybe they sacrificed all over their own luxuries to help put their kids through school. Maybe the old man lost his job and has burned through his retirement money... Stop making assumptions. Things aren't always what they seem. Rich or not rich, it's a beautiful thing that "mini Alan Harper" did for his dad. I just wish the old man showed a little more appreciation. I would have been in tears!

look at the cars, look at the neighbours house/car, look at their house... no wonder he can afford a gift for his dad worth estimated 20k USD... i would love to give something like this for my dad, but i cant afford more than a good bottle of vine ;-)

You make the assumption that everyone's money goes into a single pot and we all share it. I'd encourage you to realize this is not the case. Just because some of your family members are well off doesn't mean you are.

FasterThanLight It doesn't matter whether you had the money or saved for 20 years, the point of it all is that you bought your dad a gift from the heart. He will forever get on the bike and think to himself....Logan did this and smile a little and then take off. Good job man!!!! You are awesome!

@@JeeniusGaming SO his family has to be homeless to appreciate a 20k motorcycle? I am sorry you cannot afford to give your dad such a nice gift but that does not mean you have to shit all over someone who can.

Difficult time? The house has to be a cool 1,000,000.00. That fountain would pay for half that damn bike. I hope to have their kind of difficult times soon. If the kid can afford that damn bike... Revo or rayban sunglasses... Rough life.

jack zipper I get the sentiment behind what he did for his dad. That's cool. Maybe his difficult time was being too busy taking care of a huge family? But you have to understand that comparatively that's a wealthy family living in a gated community. Huge manicured park like lawn. Very well decorated if you're the country club type. the kind that make's snotty comments like " more like 300k...but yeah pocketchange none the less." 300K where Mexico? My1480ft square foot rambler just sold for 363K. And it was built in the 60's. We bought it for 230k 3 years ago. If not for my VA loan it would not have happened. That house has to be in the neighborhood of 3k square feet. My ex's families house a dentist's family home. It's on a hill over looking Tulsa and it sold for 275K back in the 80's. Regardless mentioning your dad going through difficult times is laughable to us. Almost a put down. I reckon it's relative too what life style you're accustomed to. If this is your video don't take it to heart too much. I grew up in north Tulsa County Oklahoma. I was raised in a farming community bordering a low income neighborhood. A ghetto by most American city standards. I was not a greaser by appearance but everyone else I knew except for a few very religious types were. I guess taking a shower and wearing clothes did make me stand out. My point is South side kids middle class and up we're and still are very racist against kids from poor families. Be us white or black. Worse if you're black of course it is Tulsa. But not much worse. The movie Outsiders was about the Tulsa area. I kind of have a chip on my shoulder from memories of rich kids trying to gang up on me and corner me in a stairwell. Little did they know I was from a much worse neighborhood than the school was that I was in. And grew up fighting much rougher kids. One of them figured out what a 300 page hard back book felt like up side his head for trying to whip me with his jump rope. The others that didn't get away fast enough felt that rope. They were sharing my school because their own was having the asbestos removed from the ceilings. None of the North side schools were having this done by the way. Don't take it to heart too much that a couple of hoods are poking fun at you're prosperity. Nothing personal. The video was very well made. I wouldn't have shot the part from my bed though. IMO...

All the dumbasses in the comments saying people who live in nice houses must be rich if the could at one point afford to buy one...If you stop making the money you were making when you bought the nice shit, then you won't afford to keep buying nice shit. SIMPLE, stupid! You tighten up the belt and you ride those nice mercedeses into the ground if you can't buy a new car or you already had an older car that's not worth selling. It's not rocket science to understand these things.

"We cant afford a Motorcycle"...But my wife can afford a nice Merc with a BMW SUV and we can afford to live in a huge house in Miami, private gated community and we shall talk about going to Europe...don't worry dad I just got you a Top end cruising German motorcycle with all the gear and lessons with BMW. I'm confused, but hey best of luck with paying for maintenance and finding/replacing electrical gremlins on that bike. I hope your father still has his high hazard perception on the road at his old brittle age.
