Back in the 1970's, when I was little (no earlier than 1974), I had NEVER been in this situation when I went to a private or public school. I was very enthusiastic about going to school from pre-K to college. If I were in this situation as a kid, by refusing to have my parents take me to school, they would make my teacher take me to school. The only times I couldn't go to school were when I was sick or a school holiday.
