This was a fun video for me. I was in a tent sitting across from Mr. Richie “Kid Rock” at FOB Kalsu in Iraq on Christmas eve 2006 waiting for a helicopter. I was an Army MSG; NCOIC of a MITT team embedded with a nearby Iraqi Infantry Battalion. It was just me and him and his Army MWR handlers. I knew who he was and I was amazed and impressed that he would come there in that dangerous, depressing place at that time of year. I didn’t see his show that day but wanted to thank him all the same. I didn’t bother him. The next day, Christmas 2006, two of my team mates were killed in an IED attack. I was heading home to Atlanta on R&R. My flight didn’t arrive and I left the next day. My teammates CPT Hayes Clayton and SFC Dexter Wheelous were both buried in Atlanta while I was there on R&R. I’ve never forgotten his generous gift to us Soldiers and will be a fan for life.
