Kidde KN-COSM-IBA Battery Replacement

So apparently my grandma hasn’t changed her batteries or her alarm in so long, because today when I went to visit, all day I kept hearing 1 beep and then a woman saying “low battery”. It was bothering me so I went to check, and sure enough it was her smoke/carbon monoxide detector. 😂 I’m going to change it for her, first thing tomorrow so thank you for this.

To anyone wondering, I had to disconnect it from house power first in order to drain it. Battery backups are still needed so to change have to disconnect the clip at the back. Expect multiple tests of the system especially when you unplug and replay replug it.

Thanks lol it was doing the Bering and woman saying low battery for 15 mins the installers mounted it so that I can’t take it off and it was upside down and too high for me to see which way batteries go in, saved me a headache lol

There's a reason why a yellow tab is there. It's to remove the batteries easily. Edit: pull the tab while inserting the batteries. The tab should be below the batteries.

How did you get that battery off of the ceiling? I have a ladder but cannot figure how to get it off. Mine just has one 9 volt battery.

@@bnvo Pure dumb luck ig. We just magically got it to work again. You can try unplugging it from the ceiling and waiting a while before putting it back in

No. This one is designed for you to replace batteries while the detector is still up.

No, you don't have to disconnect the hardwire, or even remove the alarm from the wall/ceiling to change the battery.

Kidde smoke detector i have i have the kidde fire sentry but it doesnt chirps or beeping if it chirps or beeping change the battery do not break it no break your smoke detector change the battery no breaking it ok

If there’s a red safety tab (depending which model) the battery has to sit on the tab and the tab has to be under the battery in order for it to shut. My grandmother has Kidde Frynetics 1235 alarms and the tabs have to be down in order for the battery door to close.

Usually you have to take out the batteries and hold the test button for a few seconds.

I did all the steps, then after i closed the door and pressed the test button, it said there was a fire and sounded the alarm 😂 Edit Dont worry if this happens to yours. It'll go through all the voice and alarms as a test. Once its done you're good to plug it back in the ceiling :)

Happened to me at 515 am. Three times. In a condo. 😢 Those red tabs are useless and I couldn’t get the battery in. It took me about 10 attempts.
