I loved the film so much as a kid in the 80's. (back when I really wished they made some TOYS!) The passion and skill these guys put into this robot paid off. I never felt a uncanny valley feeling when watching Johnny 5 in action. He always came off as very convincing and genuine.
@fawfulthegreat642 жыл бұрын
That last clip of Ben talking without his Indian accent is uncanny to me. Like I know Fisher Stevens isn't really Indian but seeing him as Ben and not doing the accent just has that effect lol. I've seen Short Circuit 1 and 2 so many times since childhood, love them to death. I wonder if we're at that point now where a real Johnny 5 can be made and have the abilities he has in the movies without the need of a puppeteer.

These guys were making props but they really built a robot. The speed at which they did all this amazes me. They made a movie and built a robot all a the same time. There is a guy who recently built a beautiful Johnny 5. I wonder if one day as AI gets better we might actually have a real Johnny 5.

Movie turns 35 today! I remember watching it back at my second house after Nostalgia Critic reviewed it Fun 1980s comedy featuring a robot that gains a soul after being struck by lightning Robotics were very big back in the 80s The film was also notoriously known for Fisher Stevens playing an Indian guy which was incredibly racist, the actor was actually banned from India because of the controversy, a lot of cultural consideration just wasn't part of it back in the day Still the movie made $40 million at the box office even if it did get mixed reviews and they found Johnny Five robot very charming and likable Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg are good to watch too, the house that Ally Sheedy used still exists and sold in 2019 Funny enough the music video Who's Johnny by El DeBarge is just the robot sitting in a courtroom My dad liked the movie too

Never seen this doc before! Nice! Still remember seeing this at the cinema back in '86 (age 11) - Such a great fun movie! 💖 ....I've never been able to find the missing / cut scenes from Short Circuit 1 (that you see clips of playing during the closing credits of the movie) - I wonder if they'll turn up some day, on some new BluRay release, or whatnot?

@@cinderella3414 During Short Circuit's end credit text-scroll, windows open up alongside the credits and show scenes that weren't in the final movie (cut scenes, I guess, but all filmed (I think ALL versions of the movie have these end credit clips) .....They looked like fun little scenes that I'd love to watch, as I have a real nostalgic soft spot for Short Circuit and would love to find some little unseen extras) PS: With "The man from snowy river" missing VCR scenes, have you searched on KZbin for them? (Search for 'cut scenes' or 'Bonus material' etc) you can often find movie stuff this way. :)

What I find most interesting is that the robot design really is not that unrealistic for the implied application of war fighting. I think tracks best legs for lots of application,s. And having human style arms would enable it to use weapons other than its own
@jcrowellz20002 жыл бұрын
Also, tracks are so much easier to design and build than legs with or current technology. Imagine all the sensors a robot would need to keep balanced and orientated if it had legs
