THANK YOU VERY MUCH. JUST FOUND OUT I have stage 4 kidney disease and will need dialysis. Came across your article about patients being told about dialysis. Best article I’ve read with your videos as I contemplate saying OK to dialysis. Also recently went from pre diabetic to diabetic and am 73 yrs old and obese.

I've had 3 renal biopsy procedures and I'm still only 18. I had the first one when i was 9 and people become scared when doctors tell them they need to get a biopsy done but as a kid having it done 3 times, I can say its not that big a deal. They don't put you to sleep but they do numb you and suppress the area very well. It's not painful at all just uncomfortable. Having complications is also rare so don't be so scared. I guess I've just grown used to tests and medical scares since I was diagnosed with mpgn at age 9 which is now a disease mainly known as C3G

Thanks a lot for this information on a kidney biopsy, it does help to know what is going on. I am stage iv CKD, gfr 25. I have not had one done. I have had high blood pressures since my 20s and later I got diabetes. I will turn 69 this year. Of course I wish my kidney function would stay stable. I was stage III for like 10 years. I have other chronic illnesses and fear i may not be eligible for a kidney transplant. But anyway I appreciate you shedding light and your knowledge on Chronic Kidney Disease.

I started dialysis at 21 it was miserable, I can empathize. I did have a biopsy and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I did see the needle and I agree it didn't help Lmao. Don't be afraid if you need it. I had a lot of scarring from malignant hypertension, no coming back from that.

How’d it go?

@@realkidneytalk the procedure was CT scan guided. Faster than i thought. Recovery for 3 hours. Later developed a hematoma on the kidney then pain and pneumonia in both lungs followed. 8 days in the hospital. At home still recovering. Thanks for asking❤️

Oh I’m so sorry. That’s awful. That hospital should up its game. Sounds like what my husband went through 25 years ago! Ultrasound allows real-time guidance and immediate checking for bleeding.

@@realkidneytalk I totally agree. I was in hospital for 2 days and they released me only to be rushed back to a different hospital with worst case of pneumonia and put on oxygen to breathe.

I had the worst experience lol I was apart of the 1 percent that it goes wrong on. Had internal bleeding and had to remove blood and clots thru catheter... almost lost my life that night.

I’m so sorry that happened. Did you need a transfusion? Was yours ultrasound-guided?

Had a kidney biopsy years ago and I never even knew about the neddle. I just didn't give it a thought. But at another time I also had a bone marrow sample removed from the back of hip area (don't remember the medical terminology) and that is someting I'll never allow anybody to do to me ever again! That was more painful than if they were cutting off my tongue or taking a leg off fully conscious.

When you say that you usually take 2 to 3 samples, is that in the same spot or are you taking the needle out and reinserting it into another spot?
@realkidneytalk

Good question. My experience is that we go through the same spot.

Biopsy does not have dangerous secondary effects ???.
@realkidneytalk

Unless somebody has bleeding bad enough to require a transfusion (very rare, I’ve never seen it) there are no long term secondary effects of taking 20 filtering units (glomeruli) from 1,000,000.
