Good thing these kids didn't break the bone. Since I read a class of second graders discovered the lower jaw of a T Rex and ended up breaking the bone in 3 pieces because they were playing with it lol.

This makes me wonder how many times the average person comes across fossilized bones of an ancient animal and mistook it for a stick or a rock

When my son was about 4, I took him to a place called Stonerose Fossil Center where you could pay a fee and get tools to look for fossils in what was once a lakebed. I told him what we were looking for and that it might be hard and almost immediately he said, “You mean like this mom?” And showed me a rock with fossils in it. It was pretty impressive. Kids just “see” differently. Thank goodness for fresh eyes.

Hopefully this inspired some of them to pursue a career in STEM. Doesn’t have to be paleontology , but that would be cool too. But engineering , medicine, physics… anything stem related ❤
