Fun fact! If this is canon within the timeline set up by the Buddy Cole autobiography "Buddy Babylon," when Buddy says "I have been corresponding with Elizabeth Windsor now for fifteen years" that means the two would have become friends while Buddy was sixteen years old!

He helped pave the way for the acceptance of homosexuality. Well, because of him I didn’t grow up being prejudice against them anyway.
