RDKRL I understand where your cynicism is coming from and I agree with you to a point. Everyone has their own opinions and this channel has their beliefs they will stick to. It definitely seems heavily left-leaning which is to be expected. However no matter what kind of people they're exposed to these kids will be that much richer for it. Even if diversity isn't necessarily political (they really don't touch on politics at all except maybe the trans soldier episode) the diversity they're finding in these people is experiential and cultural. Even if the kids are affected by this negatively in the short term as you claim, they will have more experience than most when it comes to dealing with people in general which will help them become their best selves eventually.

I'm sure there's more to it than that and I would be willing to bet that it did have something to do with racism and/or her refugee status. It was likely on her mind, but she chose to keep it relatively light and talk about the weather.

I can't believe some people are against refugee's entering a country. Look at what she's been through and you're going to prevent her from living in a safe society. That's a disgrace tbh. I'd advise you to go what she's gone through first. and then you're allowed to have the choice between accepting or refusing refugee's into a country
@UgandanAirForce6 жыл бұрын
you seem to not understand. Accepting refugees can be a problem since too many of them don't assimilate into said country's culture and language. They also take up a lot of money and resources as well, that money and resources could've gone to helping their own people rather than helping people that have a totally different culture and way of life compared to them. In my country the U.S. we have our own problems of drugs, too many illegal immigrants, spineless leftists and so on, we even have hungry children ourselves even though we accept a pretty good amount of refugees each year and provide social services to them. You need to understand that other countries have their own problems and people that they need to take care of, but if you're willing to let some of these refugees stay at your house free of charge as well as providing them with food and clothes then go on ahead.
@gueton52006 жыл бұрын
Just because someone have a shitty life doesn't mean we should let them everything they want, it's sad, but for the same reason you don't let a group of homeless live in your house, you won't let ilegals get in for free
@sundayriang19416 жыл бұрын
Joshua Rathbun being a refugee myself its not that difficult to assimilate to the said countries culture and language. There are English schools in America packed with adults trying to learn English and Americans culture, live with a refugee and you would understand. Ones their kids are born here their automatically grows with the Americans culture but also their culture if they choose to pass it down. The drugs and illegal immigrants is because Americans security is not strong enough. Also if you understand as to why people decides to come here illegally you might try to fix the problem and the drug. drugs come here so those people make money to support themselves or their family. Illegal immigrants come to find jobs. coming here legally is hard and takes a long time. No jobs they join a gang bring drugs or come to your country illegally. Treat them like regular citizens pay taxes get jobs help the community. And if their country is stable and they want to go back let them. I’m not telling you to give them all your stuff, I’m just telling you to care about another human being and don’t ignore them. If you were in their shoes would you want someone to help you or just walk away .REMEMBER THEY ARE HUMANS.
@gueton52006 жыл бұрын
@@sundayriang1941 i can understand how hard bring a refugee is but the problem is that most people aren't like you, do you remember when Italy blocked refugees from their country and in one boat there was 405 men 15 woman and 13 children (can't remember if those where the exact numbers but whatever), do you think that all those men went to Europe to create a life for himself? There needs to be some sort of control, letting everyone in just gives you guys an worse image
@sundayriang19416 жыл бұрын
[Gue Ton] why did they go to Italy then if it wasn’t to create a life for themselves what was it for ? Either way Italy can block they are going to try to survive going to Italy over and over again because that’s how they are going to prove to you they want to go to a better country. Unless their country gets fix. Imagine? Can’t relate only a First world problem. People rather live then care about how they look. This should be a wake up call but everyone else says let’s block our border that will solve the problem.

My mom, oldest sister, and older brother were refugees. My sister was 5 and my brother was about 1. They fled Vietnam because of the war. My dad was in the Air Force and was instrumental in helping them escape. My mom was scared. She had to leave behind her siblings, parents, and extended family to go to a country she knew little about. She said when she made it to the refugee camp after making it to America, she would look everyday to see if her siblings had come. They hadn’t. It wasn’t until after I was born they were able to flee. My uncle even had gone to jail and was forced into hard labor after their boat was captured. He was even beaten. I’ll always admire my mom and my uncles for what they have gone through. Because if my mom hadn’t fled, I wouldn’t be here today. I am also grateful for my dad who the one that got my mom and some of her family here. She couldn’t have done so without him. To me, both of them are my heroes. My dad died last January. He fought in three wars, WWII, Korean, and Vietnam. I miss him every day and knowing I came from a family of refugees makes me so proud to be an American. My dad’s parents were refugees from Poland who came to Ellis Island in the early 1900s. I’m grateful every day for my family and knowing where they came from.

I am also proud that many kongolese have been traveling back to the kongo for holidays, posting on social media and showing how the country overall has changed. No coutries is 100% perfect. There good side and bad side. Look at greece, they always paint a picture that its a beautiful country to visit but they never show the side of poverty and how refugees lives in poor conditions. @Bloxeh6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. We have to help them, it is the only humane thing to do. Yes, there will be problems and those have to be faced, but not helping is not a solution. It's just heartless. One of my colleagues at work (I'm german too btw) is spitting stuff like the boats should all return and we should put a fence around germany and all that stuff. But if you keep asking what he actually fears it's utter nonsense. He is actually afraid a refugee might "steal" his job. He has a contract, he speaks german and has an education enabling him to do this job. He just got a pay rise, but sure, a refugee will walk in and take your job. wtf... They don't want to be here. We don't really want them to be here. Why does the remaining DRC get away with this and everyone else just has to mop up their mess so to speak? When stuff like that happens, it apparently affects all other countries in the world. Or at least the better countries, 'cause that's where refugees try to go. Everyone talks about whether it is worth being nice to the refugees or not, but if I go into my neighbor's house with a gun and force them out, the police will come and take me down, not debate whether they should force my richer neighbors down the street to take them in. I know it's not that simple and we aren't the world police, but that's an argument for why maybe there should be. But, police do also have to get paid; so...

The war they're talking about is the Kivu conflict. The conflict is between the Tutsi people and the DRC government and has been ongoing in various forms since the two Congo Wars of the late 1990s, which were also caused by the presence of the Rwandan Tutsi people in the eastern Congo. Ironically, the main reason the Tutsi are in the Congo is because of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. It's only in two provinces in the east of the country, not all of the country, and judging by the fact they said they crossed to Uganda, I'd guess they were from the east, hence why they had to leave. The conflict (excluding the two Congo Wars) is only sporadic and localised, but it's forced over a million to leave their homes, primarily because any person from the involved ethnic group can become part of it and start harming other ethnic groups.

Great content HiHo. We must remember that people don't leave their childhood homes, land, family, way of life, and everything familiar just casually. Something drastic, destabilizing, traumatic has to happen in order for them to leave everything behind, travel dangerously through the unknown, and in the off-chance they make it to safety, start as a refugee with absolutely nothing in a new country, with a new culture, and often a new language.

I've met a few refugees and they all have similar stories and yet I hear too many people saying "that's the odd ones out" they believe refugees are there to take something away from the countries they run away to. I just feel so helpless trying to explain to people like that how these people are just humans trying to live a life. We are all humans just trying to live on a ball flying through space and yet we want to tell people that even if their lives are under threat, we would prefer to stop them at an imaginary boundary because they didn't fall out of their mum past that boundary. It hurts me to think a human can be that callous towards another person. Love will make you feel fulfilled at the end of your life.

Man, it is so important for people to see these videos. I think a lot of times, people tend to unintentionally dehumanize things like war, genocide, hunger, etc. but when you put a face and a name to these atrocities, it becomes less of a "them" problem and more of an "us" problem. These people did not have any choice or say in the fact that a group of people decided to start mass-murdering them. We cannot dismiss this by saying "You deal with your country, and we'll handle ours". First of all, this has nothing to do with the country or the government, because it happened beneath those jurisdictions. Secondly, the lines we draw are arbitrary. We are all spiritual beings, living a human experience, and I think that as we are all connected in this way, we are all responsible to help in some way.

Its so heart-warming to hear the Children of America to be so accepting and understanding of someone who went through such things. We are blessed to live in this nation, even if it isn't perfect. The refugee seems to appreciate this.
