He had forgot his lunch that day and at the time we lived just a 10 minute walked away from our house. If he had not forgot his lunch that day he may not be with us. I’ve never experienced a shooting. But when I hear these stories I immediately start crying because I feel so much like sadness and suffrage when people tell stories about how they were once like holding hands with someone and then an hour later they realized they couldn’t do that again. Those stories just turn me into a different person because I immediately feel unsecured and upset and worried when I’m usually happy and outgoing and positive. I also think about my 5th grade language arts teacher who was my favorite teacher and how she would care for every student and it was almost like she had a special connection to every single person she taught so when I think about her, I start thinking like what happens if something like a shooting starts happening and she’s not there to help me or if she’s affected by it because it just is the worst when you feel like your in danger and you want someone that you know can help you through the moment to be there but they aren’t. So I really feel some type of sympathy for the survivors and families of shooting victims and I just want to say how sorry I feel for them and how much it hurts not just the Family, but the person reading about it in an article or watching a video about it too because it really impacts the whole group wether they experienced it or not so I just feel so sorry for shooting victims who did not survive. I also I’m saying this to any shooters reading this because if there are any which is a slight chance, I want them to know that these shooting affect more than they think just like me and yet I don’t even know anyone who’s been in this situation and I’m crying just writing this so please be aware of this before you ruin more peoples lives. Think about how that might’ve been you or how it still could be you. Your whole family would be devastated. Not just that, but strangers like me who understand how the survivors and victims families felt when these situations occurred. If more people put their feet in another persons shoes, than this hopefully won’t happen as often as it currently is. Thank you for reading this if you did.

FACTS!!! In my school when in lockdown were supposed to go to the corner of our classroom or if there's no time under the table which is really stupid to say the least. You're supposed to look for ways out or ways to defend yourself which for me I kind of have a way to defend myself because I own pepper spray.....yeah whatever but I also carry a pocket knife for self defense or if I ever need to cut or open something. So i kind of feel safer but again it's a knife against a firearm you can't really defend yourself as much so in the case of finding a way out i'd break the window in my classroom and try to pinpoint the shooter's location and then run away if i feel it's safe. Im leaving im not waiting for someone to clock me in the head just because I was hiding in the class.

Amy Lovejoy indeed. of course it's something extremely traumatizing but the way she handles it is so inspiring. she's sharing her story and she's made a foundation and she's giving children advice about situations like this. it's something that definitely has to be talked about and it's so sad that it's gotten to the point where we actually have to talk about it. but like i said, it's okay

@@willtindall8263 Yes, but school shootings are more common in the US. I do imagine though it is more due to the lack of gun safety. Most gun owners are good with the safety measures they put in place, but there are more cases of people either not being safe enough, or planning attacks in the US.

I can't imagine what I would do if everyone's doors were already locked and I couldn't get in a class! It's so scary for me to think of it. I get that. There was a girl who was sexually assaulted in the bathroom at my school by a random middle aged guy that just walked into the school. Everyone was terrified of leaving the classroom alone and we had to go to the bathroom in buddies. I think it was especially scary for my class because we were the classroom right next to the bathrooms that it happened in at the time. It was our dance room and was kind of secluded and had big curtains that covered the door that we always had closed. No-one heard anything. The scariest part was that a girl in my class went to that same bathroom in the same period- but must've just missed the assault. Later, I heard from someone in the classroom above the bathrooms that their class heard someone yell out, but I can't confirm this. I couldn't go to that bathroom- or any other one really- for ages. I don't know who the girl was, they never told us, but I hope she has recovered from something as traumatic as that.

to be completely blunt, hiding in a bundle in a group is probably the worst idea possible. If the shooter doesn't see anyone, the first thing he will do is start looking in closets. If he opens a closet door and all the kids are inside, that's a whole classroom gone in an instant. There isn't safety in numbers in this case, and I can totally see why she would say follow your instincts, you would really have to rely on your survival instincts.

There are 330 million people in this country. Lots and lots of people. The likelihood of something like this happening is so low it is off the charts. I think of it this way. If you see a big lawn covered with blades of grass, the lawn could represent all of these 330 million people. Then you take a patch of ground maybe a foot square relatively, that could be the number of people killed in gun violence. Do not let fear rule your life, just go on living your life.

When I was a sophomore in high school, a guy that I had mutual friends with but didnt know very well, planned to shoot up our school. For some reason, the night before he planned to do it, he decided to go to our friend's house to tell him about it. I dont know if it was supposed to be a warning, invite, or "joke," but thank god he took it seriously. Without letting him know, he had his mom call the police. They searched the guys house and found a bomb, guns, and a hitlist which included names of a few of my friends and even his own mom. (She was an aid at the school.) I know a lot of the time, it's not common to have someone outwardly tell you that they plan to do something as insane as shoot up a school but please just take whatever warning you may get.. seriously. You could save your own life, your friends', a sibling.. Be smart. Be safe.

I am shocked to read the comments as an American and see that kids from other countries don’t experience shootings at all or as common. I constantly am always looking for places to run and hide in my classes at school and when at crowded areas like concerts and movie theaters. I am so used to it and I didn’t realize that not all kids in the world have to worry about it.
@pika63836 жыл бұрын
Kade Bould As a Scottish person, I’m absolutely shocked at the idea that students dread school shootings daily. Nobody in our country owns guns except police and farmers, and even then, policemen on the street usually only carry batons, not guns. Everyone here thinks it’s absurd America hasn’t banned guns (much less the idea of giving teachers guns... wtf?!), and we all hate trump lol
@mrsmutawa62106 жыл бұрын
As a Middle Eastern it is a common idea amongst us that America is a very dangerous place. School shootings, serial killers, homeless people, drugs all seem to be centered in the USA. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I'm from France and i'm fucking horrified that you have to think about places to hide in every crowded place you go. I never think about where i could hide, especially in my school. As someone who was in a school shooting November 2019 on an OPEN campus, I can assure you, no one is going to be throwing school supplies at them, everyone is running for dear life trying to leave campus as soon and as quick as possible. My school and fellow classmates always made jokes before the scenario happened of "if there was a school shooting we'd all jump the shooter" but of course we never expected the shooting to actually happen UNTIL IT DID. I still remember every second of it and it will constantly replay in my head until the day I die. It's almost been 8 months since and most of my classmates and friends are still traumatized and trying to cope. Most of us cope by making jokes or laughing over it but, there's the neighboring school who thinks that if we can joke about it, so can they. And I understand their reasoning but for us, it's deeply offensive.
