HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! As a way to start 2022, I decided to bring back a lost classic, now rebooted with more cool details about the career of the magical Roberto Baggio. The original was the video that blew up my channel and unfortunately it was blocked by youtube due to copyright issues when it was about to become my first to hit a million views... thankfully you made sure that by the end of the year a few others got to the iconic 1 Million. It's disgusting that KZbin took down your previous Roberto Baggio video, but then this is how the platform now operates. They care more for politicians, corporations and celebrities than independent content creators such as yourself - the very people whom KZbin built their success on. Did you know that Baggio recovered in record time from yet another cruciate knee ligament inury at the age of 35? He worked his ass off to be in contention for a place at the 2002 World Cup. He was still the best attacking player in Italy at the time and so it was extremely annoying that Trapattoni chose to ignore him. Despite having a great squad in 2002, particulary in defence and attack, the team itself was woeful and devoid of imagination. They only just scraped it out of the group, and while they were unlucky to go out to South Korea due to a crooked ref, if truth be told, they were never going to win while under Trapattoni's out-of-date, defensive tactics.

When he was playing at the height of his ability..Week in&out doing some amazing&magical things for Juve,Milano and of course his National Team,this was being done,when he was facing seriously Hard tackles&many fouls of course,! Baggio scores that penalty and Italy win that World cup he's a top 5 player all time. That's how fickle people are. If you put him up against any of the greats, his dribbling, control, free kicks, technique, football IQ, vision as well as combination of goalscoring and assisting and overall natural talent are as good as any number 10 ever. Roberto Baggio is so special that he's beloved by everyone here in Italy, even if he played for all the biggest teams in our league. Personally, I had the privilege to see him in his finals year in my hometown Brescia. And it was magical, never saw another superstar on the pitch that was also unbelieveable humble in his normal life. Grazie di tutto Roberto!

In the UK we were lucky to have Serie A games broadcast on Sundays in the early to late 90s, this was due to Italia 90 and David Platt moving to Bari, Juventus and Sampdoria + Paul Gascoigne moving to Lazio, we got to see so many wonderful things, that early 90s AC Milan team, Bastistuta at Florentina, Baggio, Parma doing awesome stuff and a seeing Buffon play for the first time as a 17 year old and George Weah running from his own 18 yard box to score! 90s serie A was amazing and Baggio was superb

The crazy thing about Baggio is that he wasn't theorically able to play that well with the injuries he had, but he played majestically anyways. There was something almost supernatural about him, so fragile yet so phenomenal. He was made of glass but played like he was made of diamond. That elegance, derived by his physical precariousness, made him a magical player to witness. He was so cautious at every move he did, so that he saw things other players couldn't, and made him one of the smartest players of all time. My dad worked at a restaurant in Florence in the early 90s and his boss was sokagakkai, which is the same buddhist "sept" Baggio was in, and they used to do meetings in the restaurant all the time, so my dad encountered Baggio many times while he played for Fiorentina. Even for his '94 World Cup miss, a very few people in Italy wouldn't think of him as the best italian player of all time.

Have seen often Baggio on the bench is still hurts so much. Here in Italy we all know why he was so opposed by the coaches. If the team won with Baggio (like Juventus in 1993/1995) he would have taken away the merits of the coaches. He really shone too much for the pompous ego of the overly envious and jealous coaches like Trapattoni, M.Lippi or Arrigo Sacchi. Now, you can probably understand why it was above all the people who loved him.

Great video! Baggio was undoubtedly the best player in the world during his prime and is one of the greatest ever to have played the game. His career was compromised by injuries, but ultimately tanked by primadonna managers (Sacchi and Lippi mostly, but Capello, too), who were jealous of the credit Baggio always took for any team’s achievement. I recommend watching his famous goal for Brescia vs Juventus - 34 y.o., broken knee, playing for a small team against a giant in what was at that time the best league in the world. That magic first touch is something unseen. The difficulty of execution, the creativity in conceiving such a move and the bravado in believing you can do it… Not Pelé, not Maradona, Messi… nobody has ever done anything like that

This was so beautiful that it brought tears of joy and nostalgia for one of my favourite players. Thank you for making this video. There is a story that you may not know that happened while at Brescia. Brescia were on the field for the pregame warmup at Parma for a Coppa Italia game but a player was missing, Vittorio Mero had decided to come to the game with his own vehicle but nobody could find him. The news arrived to the officials of Brescia that Vittorio Mero had just died in a car crash but they didnt tell the players because they wanted the game to go on. The fans found out and they started chanting Vittorio's name. When Baggio realized what happened he took off his Captain's armband and led his players off the field and to the dressing room with most of them in tears. Thanks again for this video

I just watched baggio at the end of his carrier (a few in Inter, more in Brescia). He was (is) so famous as an iconic football player that even a child will know his name. One day, i read about his trophy which i considered it as "not really great for a player like him". But then, i understand that what he did in his carrier was so much and memorable. BEST player Italy has ever had, and he played his entire career injured. Imagine what he could have done if he didn't. Great video, only point i'd make is you never mentioned Mazzone. Baggio's coach at Brescia. He was instrumental in his return to greatness and in giving him the freedom and the trust to do what he did best. He was a great coach, that at the time coached also one Pep Guardiola, and taught him a lot of what he does today as a successful coach. When Mazzone died Guardiola also remembered him with beautiful words.

They're different kind of players. Del Piero looked stronger, quicker, while Baggio was way more technical, but met many coaches who didn't know how to handle this kind of a player. He had the technical proficiency of Zidane but he played too forward to be a playmaker. He was good enough to be a striker, a center forward and a CAM, but he never found the right space in teams who were searching for players perfectly fitting their role. That's why his most memorable campaigns were on minor teams like Bologna or Brescia, bringing them to unimaginable levels, and it's there where he is still regarded as an icon for the teams. Fiorentina, Juventus and Milan had so many great names, but Baggio is the only one who had the modesty to play for minor teams for the true passion of the sport.

@@kcapo89 I think that speed wasn't what made him special, he had supernatural precision and dribbling technique but he never had to run a lot, that was what it looked to me. I mean he never looked fatigued, on a rush, that was what made him so elegant, like Totti. Del Piero was way more physical and "pragmatic" in my opinion, he was a different kind of italian player. I remember an interview of this podcast kind of thing here in Italy that is called Bobo TV (it's held by Adani, Cassano and Christian Vieri as hosts) and they had Pep Guardiola on and asked him about Baggio in the brief time he played with him in Brescia, and Guardiola said that his positioning was uncomprehensible, he was always in the right place at the right time and nobody understood how it was possible. He saw movements seconds earlier than any other player on the pitch, and I think that was his way to compensate the fact that he wasn't able to play on strict spaces as it would've be damaging to his very precarious physical condition. He played CAM/CF with the mentality of a striker. It's like putting the ability on the ball of the finest dribblers of all time (as to say Zidane) with the vision of Pirlo and the positioning of Inzaghi. He peaked so much that coaches didn't know in what role he should've actually play. That's why he became the substitute of players that embraced their role in a more conventional way, and it didn't make justice for Baggio at all. But his main traits, in my opinion, were vision, positioning and dribbling ability, and really no other great italian player had all three at the same time. Also a very rare thing you see, which is really something marginal I guess, maybe even stupid to say, is when players use their brains aside their feet. Totti was so good, but his "smartness" was almost muscular, he had smart feet. Players like Zidane or Baggio, they were cerebral. Everything they made they made it out of a genius mind applied to football. They knew so much more than anybody else on the stadium. It's like they are enlightened by something else, their like Gods. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but maybe that's what they made these footballers legendary.

2 months ago we wanted to bring a small present to my son's football coach. There were a lot of handmade figures in the shop of all movies, football, boxing, etc stars ... he became one of the best in the world and a Balon d'or winner playing with a leg and a half, in an old interview he showed both his legs and one was visibly smaller than the other and in that interview he says that he often has excruciating pain in his knee but he just can't stop playing football, if he was born now with the cures and everything there his now for that kind of injury or if that early career injury never happened there is no doubt in my mind he would be in the conversation for the goat, this is one of the biggest what if's for me.

Personally, Baggio was always my favourite... I really wished he won the 94 World Cup... I watched every match as he was pivotal for Italy to progress, indeed without him Italy was nowhere... I do remember the entire team Giuseppe, Maldini, Donatello and many I can't remember now... 94 World Cup was very close to me emotionally... the only other cup that covered that feeling was Messi's 2014 World Cup which was fulfilled in 2022... this was a Great video... for me, Baggio will always be the relentless tiring player who will be somehow forgotten in the shores of greatness... everyone will achieve greatness in the brightside but there will always be the greats no one will remember that will be lost with the passage of time...

I was 10 tears old when I first watched him play in Italia 90 world cup. Still the greatest player so poetic on the ball but that knee injury held him back. He deserved so much more praise because he suffered so much during his career. I hope he is doing well? Will always be GOAT. 🙏

such a shame, that a great player, maybe the best italian soccer player of all time, Mr. Roberto Baggio, is only remembered by most people of his missed penalty against Brazil in 94... as a brazillian, i have to say, Baggio was genious, he was a insanely talented player, so much that even his coachs as you said in the video, would not understand how good he was, it felt that they were determined to mine his career instead of trying to use he to the best of his ability...thats so sad Baggio deserved a better career, he suffered so much, i remember reading about how devastated he was after losing that 94's world cup final penalty, he would proceed to fall into such a depression that it took some time for him to bounce back as a player... soccer is not fair sometimes, and Baggio is proof of that

I remember the world cup missed penalty. I was 14 at the time. I remember a Johnny Walker commercial showing baggio missing the penalty and starts walking... "keep walking" Johnny walker red label. Milan had a great team in that era, possibly the best club side ever, but I can honestly say Baggio was the best player in serie A, when the Italian league was at its peak. Single handedly got them through to the final in 94. Shame he missed the penalty and is remembered for that, as he had been excellent in that tournament.

Serie A in the 90s was similar to the Premier league now, only better. The best players and coaches were there and tackling was also still allowed.

I was too young to see Baggio at his best in Fiorentina or Juventus, so I started to see him when he was in Fiorentina. Since I was little the reference I had of Baggio is that of the guy who missed the decisive penalty in the '94 WC Final but once I started to watch his games I realized he was unbelievable. Next season, with Inter, I was expecting the "neriazzuri" to win everything since they were the first "Galactic" team because in those years they had Baggio, Ronaldo, Recoba, Zamorano and so on. Sadly, it was not meant to be and this era ended in a great dissapointment. Yet, I remember a few times when Baggio came out of nowhere to become the man of the match. Specially that match against Real Madrid was remarkable. Then came his time in Brescia, a modest team that in a short period of time managed to have a some incredible players like Luca Toni, Pirlo, Dario Hubner, Guardiola and of course, Baggio. At the time it was hard to watch games from small teams, it wasn't like now, when you can watch either in cable or stream whatever team you. Still, I remember I did whatever I could to watch Brescia, for me they were the David fighting the Goliaths in the Italian Serie A. And Baggio, now with his head full of greys was the absolute leader of this band of rebels. He lead this small team to qualify to European Cups for a few years and made some magical football. So great was Baggio that the season after his retirement Brescia descended to the Serie B and then to Serie C1. It's just insane to know he took a team from the third tier of the Italian football and made it an "European" team. As far as for me, Baggio was one of the best players ever and the European footballer with the most magic and I believe if it wasn't for injuries Baggio would have been in the same category as Pelé, Maradona or Messi.

The first "Galactic" Italian team was late-80s-early'90s AC Milan with Maldini, Baresi, Donadoni, Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard and Costa Curta. No other Italian team was as good. The only other club side on that level was Barca '10. Mourinho's Inter and Madrid before Beckham won the same trophies, but they did it via coaching tactics, grit, or individual talent; never all three like AC Milan had around '90.
