Aloha Kienen, I came across your channel as I was researching all things about Hawaii, mainly about living in Hawaii. I'm from So Cali and looking to move to Hawaii within the next year. I would like to see more content on Hawaii and the different Islands, pros and cons, what the people are like etc. I'm more interested in living in Oahu or in an area that has agriculture and land to plant garden and grow my own vegetables and fruit so renting a house seems to be more of an option for me. I just subscribed and will continue supporting you. Continued success on your channel and love your humor and transparency.

I find pidgin pretty easy to understand, even as an old guy from the midwest, much of the slang is similar or self explanatory to that which I have been exposed to my whole life, the varied uses of "da kine" sometimes throws me though. Before I retired my job required me to communicate precisely so I rarely used any form of slang at work, it was used mostly at home among friends. Cherry for example is commonly used here to describe anything in pristine condition, ie " that's a really cherry 57 chevy". Thanks for sharing your description of everyday life in Hawaii.

So true about the price of the hypothetical grass hut lol! I like that you clarified several of the misconceptions including volcanoes and the fact that Hawai'i is a state. I also didn't realize that people don't reverse park anywhere else...

Haha to my mainland friends, they just thought I was being pretentious, reverse parking and all

I just got a project engineer internship for this summer in Honolulu! Do you have any advice that would possibly prepare me for this experience?

Nice! Dont be afraid to immerse yourself in the culture and learn from the workers. Good luck 🤙

@@KienenKoga I appreciate it! I know the hours are going to be long and the work is going to be hard but I’m just hoping to mix a little bit of Island culture in there to round out my experience!

Has the island been quite since covid hit ? Or have things remained the same in your area

Definitely less tourists. Waikiki was pretty dead; it was actually kind of chilling to see the streets so empty. But in the recent month or so things have definitely picked up; we are projecting it'll take a couple years to get back to normal capacity.

I’m a recent nursing grad, do RNs make a decent living in Hawaii?
@KienenKoga3 жыл бұрын
from my understanding yes; you can also have a decent work life balance with the 3 days on 3 days off work schedule

How much does a Construction Project engineer make after a Master's in USA in Hawaii. Reply when you go through this message
@KienenKoga4 жыл бұрын
Your degree won't likely get you any more pay in this industry especially just starting out, if it is; it's minimal. You can probably expect somewhere in the $60-$80k depending on where you're working. Typically the areas with higher costs of living pay more.

I’ve been hearing that due to corona there aren’t that many companies looking for buildings because of financial issues. Will this harshly affect the construction industry in the future?
@KienenKoga4 жыл бұрын
Super great question. What we are seeing is that yes, there will likely be a lull in the next year or two as projects have been put on hold and have tabeled the planning process on many projects. So you have a gap between the jobs finishing up now and future work a couple years away from starting as things go back to normal
