I'm doing a more "powerlifting" program because I missed taking lifting seriously. With that, I needed to manage my expectations with BJJ. I decided not to compete at the upcoming tournaments and I'll take BJJ classes off or go light if needed. Heavy lifting is great for me, but a person can only achieve so much overall volume. I just don't think a person can have jiu jitsu be their main priority and also lift hard and go for PRs; somethings gotta give. I used to not count my BJJ sessions as cardio or consider them at all relative to my lifting-- it's odd. It's hard to see the big picture when you try to do it all.

Thank you. I am 180 cm tall or 5'11 and weigh 80 kg i might want try to go up to 85 kg, i do a bit of weightlifting after a short jiu jitsu session 2 times a week where i do frontsquats and regular deadlifts and farmercarry and also dips pullups and grip training, and then i usally have a pure gym session on saturdays where i do sled, farmerscarry benchpress and trapbar deadlifts and also dips, pullups, situps. What do you think would be a good weight on lets say trapbar deadlifts if i want to increase the weights with going up to 85 kg?

As a white belt when I was super into the gym and fitness I would be having 5 sessions of bjj a week. 4-5 strengthening training sessions a week and running a lot on top of that.. my rest day was a competition class or a 10 mile run.. and I was under eating. Idk how I survived that. but hey I’m a blue belt now lol

how can i have an endless tank for bjj? stamina is as important as power. muscle resistance.

6 years in what I found to works was 1.Don’t sit out rounds 2. Find more technique vs strength especially with escapes. Craig jones said it best “ if I meet resistance with resistance I’ll get tired but if I meet resistance with technique I find a solution” 3. Also my first 3 rounds I dump the tank. Usually we do about 15-18 3 min rounds with 30 sec rest. I’ll go hard as I can first 3 rounds and the rest of the rounds will force me to use technique and also get pass that gas tank

I switched to fullbody everyday calisthenics just like KBoges. Check out his channel, you sitll look shredded and you avoid injuries.
@frenchmike8 күн бұрын
I think some of what you do is useful but I don't think olympic lifts and dumbbells are helpful. mobility & stretching for sure, also some calisthenics for sure, and for weight even though kettlebells are better than dumbbells in my opinion, I recommend steel clubs that will combine all you need for strength, cardio, core and useful movement for bjj
@KierenLefevre7 күн бұрын
I think clubs and KB's are cool and can be fun to mix things up a bit, but def not superior to DBs and BBs
@frenchmike7 күн бұрын
@@KierenLefevre I disagree. I tried both but most people who say this never really tried. I think clubs and kettelbells not only work strength like DB and BB but in more planes and also work the cardio and core better

I was also obsessed when I first started. Going 5x a week. Sometimes would attend the morning and evening class on the same day. Ending up injuring my MCL from overuse. Didn't help that I wasn't very active before starting to train BJJ. Hopefully will return to it someday. Great advice in the video though. If I had done even some of these things, I definitely would have avoided my injury.

Literally wasn’t cause of the training styles or strength training you were over training clearly
