Decent idea in theory, but you have to understand why the grappler/wrestler is grabbing your neck in the first place. It's not just one movement to reach out and grab your neck. He/she is looking to gain neck control, searching for the best position to take your back or take you down. If they are able to grab your neck like the gentleman in your video has done, it would not be a crisp sharp pretty movement and I think the only thing that would keep him from doing this is if you either know how to defend it from a grappling/wrestling sense, or you throw jabs/low kicks to keep them off you. The minute he has your neck, it's over really.

Thank you. As stated, it's just an idea off a kata, not an end-all-be-all technique. In my experience, grapplers and wrestlers don't typically strike so your statement of throwing jabs/low kicks is great. Thanks for the insight! The idea of this entire video is to not play the game of someone who plays that game well. If I'm not a boxer, I'm not going to try to box with him. So, my thought is that if someone grabs you, don't grab back. You have free tools to use while theirs are tied up.

@@PeacefulWarriorMartialArts I 100% agree with you re: playing to your strengths. A nice front kick will make the grappler think twice about shooting in however some wrestlers are just so damn fast that knowing take down defense is vital. Keep walking your path and polishing your skills, well done on the channel too :)

I think by not tying up your asking to get blast double legged. I think the main concern should be stopping the wrestler getting underhooks and shooting on the legs. By refusing to address the clinch your short selling yourself. Having a way to strike effectively from the clinch is better than not wanting to clinch. Hench why Thai boxers do good against Greco and freestyle wrestlers in the clinch without striking.

Out of curiosity, have you tried this during a live sparing session with an actual grappler?

Im gonna take a wild swinging guess and say no, they have not.

Geez guys. Calm down. It's just a way to show a technique off two blocks in a kata we do. But have we hit a person who has only trained to grapple and not strike? Yes. Did it work? Ummm...yes.

I think these would work against someone who's untrained, but then they're not a grappler. Someone who's a grappler is just going to swim around your arm, keep their posture, and still have control of your posture because they've grabbed your neck. I would love to see this demonstrated against a trained grappler though to see if I'm wrong, or to see if there some micro adjustments that could be made to make this work.

For sure. We were talking about that today. My buddy (who trains jujitsu) was saying that if someone tried this against a trained grappler, it would be difficult. If they're an untrained person who does end up grabbing or tying up, absolutely may work. We are just playing around with different methods. This isn't an end-all-be-all technique for any situation. No technique practiced ever turns out the way you plan. I guess I would implore anyone who has questions to the validity of it is try it and see if it works. Thanks :)

Excellent techniques but why does the video end so abruptly?

Thank you. It’s cut up into a couple parts from a much longer video.

Cool. I was teaching this same principle and concept behind the grappling attack. I was using the “hook punch” from Naihanchi Shodan instead. The inside of the forearm is still used and the grappler is neutralized by controlling the head the same way you demonstrated here in your awesome as usual video!
@PeacefulWarriorMartialArts4 жыл бұрын
Cool! We'll have to give that one a try. Thanks!

How well would this work with a lot of resistanse from the other person? Can we see a video with more realism? Awesome technique and will definitely be trying this out when I can :D
@PeacefulWarriorMartialArts4 жыл бұрын
We were actually just talking about this today and trying different ways to perform this. It’s doable. Try it out and let us know. You may have to use different strikes, shift your body, etc.

The resistance is important and so is pain...The strict have very little distance to effective in that range, you should just landed an uppercut into the xyphoid process and just continuing with elbows. Even a kick to the shin would be more effective than trying to hit with that distance.
@PeacefulWarriorMartialArts3 жыл бұрын
@@mishaaskar3323 sure. There are a bunch of things you can do. This is just one of them. Something for the toolbox.
