I have great memories of KIIS FM in the early 80's. Rick Dees, Paul Freeman, Craig Powers, Bruce Vidal, Liz Fulton. Does anybody remember the "Weekend Warmup Parties?" They were every Thursday night at restaurants and clubs throughout Los Angeles, Orange Counties and Inland Empire. They were so much fun!!!! I remember drinking beers with all of the above and having a great time meeting women!

1984 was an incredible year for music, probably one of the best. I wish sometimes that I could go back and do more, even though I was only 4 years old then. :)

Kinda makes me wish I was alive in 1984. So much good music that year. Plus, it was the 80's, and from what I hear, it was one hell of a time to be alive and kicking in America.

If I grew up during the 80s and I was at home it would be difficult to decide between MTV and the radio. If my parents were watching something on tv. The easy decision if I wanted music. Was turn on the radio
@ApartmentKing668 жыл бұрын
+James Greek I DID grow up in the 80s (high school, college, then into radio) and it WAS hard to decide between MTV and the radio. Usually the radio won because we had only one TV that was hooked to the cable box...and my mom was ALWAYS in front of it.

OOPS! Big Ron didn't give a legal ID at 4:01...he said "KIIS Los Angeles," which is the AM ID. For 102.7 to be properly identified, the FM suffix *had* to be said: "KIIS-*FM* Los Angeles." Not to nitpick, but if a KIIS-FM engineer were listening, Big Ron would've gotten a call...or a memo from the PD.
@ApartmentKing665 жыл бұрын
@Ken Harris But in order for it to be legal, they would've had to get FCC permission to drop the FM suffix. Simply changing the AM call letters isn't enough. I'm assuming they did this? Was it still KPRZ at this time?
@rayking97815 жыл бұрын
@@ApartmentKing66.....As long as you state the legal call letters KIIS that is all you need.

Well to the best knowledge, KIIS was owned by Combined Communications and that company was bought out by Gannett Broadcasting, and when Gannett which owned KIISFM in its prime. When Gannett decided to get out of radio they sold KIISFM to Jacor which was bought out by Clear Channel who has owned KIIS ever since.

@wc20067 күн бұрын
yes, as wild fm uses the same jingle package, called "hot kiis", which kiis no longer uses, many other stations used it too, like krbe, wpen, and in the philippines, dwst.

@@TheHaloRed No. 102.7 was KIIS-FM except for the periods when co-owned 1150 AM wasn't KIIS-AM. There was a time when KIIS-AM was KPRZ. At that time, 102.7 was just KIIS.

Rick Dees was in a different time. He might gotten into reality TV if the money was good. In fact he laid the groundwork for those like Ryan Seacrest and Billy Bush to follow. Dees innovated the Sleeze. Casey Kasem stayed out the gossip and mud and always stuck to the positive aspects about the artists that were charting. If anyone follows Kasem's playbookd more less its Sean "Hollywood" Hamilton. At least on his countdown shows he does not go into the sleeze.
