That shot is one of the many PR photos I took of Dees for Freetone Records back when the Disco Duck was just coming out.

Yessuh, Mistuh Dees. Very possibly I listened to this live on that date, as a young punk 5th grader in West TN. To this day I occasionally answer "yes" in the style of "The Boss"...loved to get ready for school with this show playing in the background. Good times.

Interesting how many of these same sounds effects he used at KIIS in LA.

I think it was a co-worker from Memphis who told me Dees had a "cart" deck with nothing but sound effects - at least three machines, I'd guess. In the modern computer age, he'd probably have many more lined up.

Memphis was indeed covered with sin in 1977 and it was a fun place to live. I indulged in debauchery of all kinds.

Janet O'Connor: When Rick Dees originally played "Disco Duck" on the radio, he worked as a disc jockey at Memphis radio station WMPS; they fired him for playing "Disco Duck" on his radio show and rival radio station WHBQ scooped him up.
