I heard KIIS FM live for the first time in the summer of 1995 during a roadtrip in California. Brilliant!

There was one reason given: *Ryan Seacrest!!!* He was already at Star 98.7 (KYSR), but after American Idol finally made him a household name, Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) knew that Ryan was the perfect morning person to replace Rick. The rest, as they say, is history.

When Rick Dees started his Top 40 nationally in the 80s, I switched from Casey Kasem overnight.

I did too. I remember thinking this show sounded very 80s, whereas Casey sounded 70s to me.

I'd listen to them both. Different styles of broadcasting, but entertaining, to my ears.
