This was a very popular song to say it wasn’t a hit is not to recognise that Tami Lyn’s version maybe more well-known and Kiki‘s excellent rendition wasn’t distinct enough from that for radio, dj’s and the buying public to pick up on her talent, not her fault. It didn’t stop her working at her craft and being picked by Tamla Motown for two of her later releases.

This song was written by Bert Berns, one time mentor of Van Morrison. He wrote many other hit songs e.g. 'Twist and Shout', 'Here Comes the Night' (recorded by Van's band in 1965, Them, a Number 2 hit in the UK), Hang on Sloopy, and many others. One reason Van Morrison never sings Brown Eyed Girl in his concerts is because even though he wrote it, all the royalties went to his then manager, Bert Berns. Berts died in late 1967, aged 38, around the time Brown Eyed Girl hit the US Top Ten.
