BUILD BUDGET UPDATE: I'd originally said in this that all shelters have the same build budget. I was, in fact, wrong. After spending a couple hours filling all my shelters with flamingos, I can confirm that there are TWO shelters that do not have the same build budget as all the rest. Build budget for ALL shelters is as follows: Server Room: 1000 flamingos Toxic Wasteland: 1500 flamingos (WOW!!) All the rest: 700 flamingos Sorry for the misinformation, folks.

If you have the budget, you can have a few of the 'flying' cargobots over your camp. I have had one or two players taking potshots at them thinking they were the normal cargobots.

Thanks for the link, and for bringing it to my attention. They came up with some extremely odd numbers there, and Uranium Fever only tested one himself. I just personally spent the last two-ish hours filling every single shelter with flamingos, and I have absolutely no idea where their numbers came from. The budget is 1000 for the Server Room, 1500 for the new Toxic Wasteland, and 700 for all the rest.

Honestly, I feel they should have started with this idea, but allow us to put everything in the shelters rather than restricting certain items. Would be easier imo to just find a place to plop the door down. Idk how many times I've found a location and wasted caps to move my camp but was unable to rebuild anything I already had built for whatever reason.

My favorites were the quarters vault (because of the aquarium and the fake grass, super neat and add a bit of color to the shelter without the illusion that you may be outdoors like the wasteland shelters (which is my opinion are just plain weird)) and the missile shelter because of how clean it is and the missile make a good decoration, the ones I really don’t liked were the wasteland’s shelters (as I said they are weird) and the forbidden dig shelter (cave + skeletons = too creepy for a residential area)

The 9-level height of the Toxic Wasteland shelter is pretty awesome, but is there any elevator available like in Fallout 4, or anything that would simulate the effect of an elevator so I wouldn't have to run up 18 flights of stairs on foot to go to the top floor? I hope they add some kind of elevators to camp-building. Even an "instant fast-travel" type of elevator that we see in the game would be nice.

Thanks for the shelter review! Your utility shelter looks amazing! Thanks! It helps this decoratively challenged Vault Dweller to see such cool examples! The Missile Silo is my favorite. The floor screams "Basketball court" to me. So I made a basketball court. I added fan seating, a bar and tables in the missile area and a playground for kids who are forced to come to the games but could care less about them. I'm in the process of turning the Vault Quarters into locker rooms for the players. Home team will have "spectacular" rooms and amenities. The visitors' lockers, etc. not so much. 😜 I'll put the proper entrances into each shelter such that one can "walk" from the court to the lockers and back again. But you have inspired me to actually do something with the other shelters that I have. thanks!

I use my Utility Shelter as my "crafting camp" so I don't need to use budget for overworld CAMPs on crafting stations. Squared it off and merged items together to fit it into the space and I wouldn't change it as I love what I've managed to pull off.

I really appreciate this video! I could never get into Fallout 76 before--having to repair our gear is what really made me lose interest. My friend and I have gotten back into it lately on a private world with tweaked settings to make the game less of a chore, and I'm really enjoying it. I started with a mine shelter & turned that into a Brotherhood FOB, I put it next to fissure site prime because my Role play states that the Brotherhood found the scorch queen nest & dug down into it, I then put a vault lobby entrance in the mine & actually managed to turn my Vault lobby into a Brotherhood of steel bunker, I also incorporated the vault server room into it so I've basically got a Brotherhood excavation site base leading to a mine that leads to an underground complex! people don't seem to realise just HOW much you can redesign & transform a shelter with some floors & walks!

Can you gather water from the puddle in the Abandoned Mine? I have a camp in the Toxic Valley, and while it allows easy access to heavily irradiated water for managing a low-life build, it lacks dirty water used in a lot of crafting - I actually need to use the junkyard fountain as a source, and gathering from that thing is slooooooow.

I think to add functionality to shelters they should make shelter specific npcs which you can manage if you'd like or ignore but they would ideally do things like make fiber optics, ballistics ect typically the pre war resources and if you manage their need you get boosted production. Kind of like saving people from a waste land and giving them a safe space all they gotta do is work a little. I know for veterans like most of us it won't make a difference but it would have some life and movement inside of the shelters atleast.

Apparently that was a mistake on my part, due to a custom world setting. So if you have custom worlds, change your weather setting to always clear. I imagine that would work with any of the other weather effects as well.

Your utility room is beautiful! You mentioned you can only build 50 lights; is that seperate from the budget? Can i build 50 lights and still not have used any budget? If that makes sense. Me bad at questions.

Good question! Each light does use a small amount of budget in addition to counting toward that limit. They used to cost a LOT more budget, so the devs reduced the cost and introduced a cap on a bunch of items (lights, turrets, prefabs, etc) to make camp building a little easier.

thought id make a comment since i adore shelters and spent ALOT of time overthinking my builds in them (disclosure: i fully enclosed my builds to the point where you cant see the shelter at all) Missile Silo - i adore this shelter for the wide open sandbox/different floor levels. i made a staircase downwards into a sci-fi bunker with blue lighting server room - i also adore this shelter for similar reasons. i agree the rooms are wack but ive only used the main room and i like the amount of budget you get. i used it to make a plaza with 2 floors storage facility - very good sandbox room, i used it to make a enclosed city street living quarters - i regretted getting it for awhile until i got the right idea. i hate the overhead light very much. i used it to make a employees only cluttered storage hallways utility shelter - amazing shelter, small yet very good sandbox, used it to make a dimly light gross looking cluttered living area thats under kept pitt shelter - very unique and amazing. used it to make an exterior for the plaza shelter vault lobby - i hate it. hate the staircase and the unlevel floors. wish it was reversed. used it to make a fancy living area

My plan is for my Camp to have the bot to ToxicW, and from TW I'll make a train station with the PITT trapdoor, an empty Casino with the Casino door slapped on the front, and a water tower fort with and elevator leading to the mine. From the mine you can enter the Vault(lobby) or go deeper into the digsite. Lobby has 4 paths, atrium, server, storage, quarters and I have a military entrance in the middle room. Tried to make it look like an elevator. My root Cellar is in the Pitt but... I have a lot of work ahead of me

I actually think the Vertibot shelter entrance should be used for more "outdoor" shelters, as it makes more sense in my opinion compared to a long tunnel that somehow takes you to another city. BTW, how are you getting clear day in Neighborhood Square? Other videos I have seen showcasing it show it with a sky more typical of The Pitt. Are you using a weather beacon?

I think that's a good idea, having some kind of transport for those types of shelters. Apparently it was my custom world weather settings that were making it clear and blue in my neighborhood square, sorry for the confusion 😅

I have the shelter from the scoreboard. At first glance it looks fantastic; - it's VERY dark by default - you have 2 sets of lights that you can turn on to illuminate the space, spotlights and area lights that look nice - the design itself is really well done and looks very industrial so it can be used as-is for a wide variety of builds, from parking garage to military compound, etc. - it's not overly large where you are going to have trouble filling it - It's very tall Unfortunately, as with almost everything that Bethesda puts out there is a "gotcha". The darkness appears to be a post processing effect, and it "smothers" your lighting. Meaning any lights you put down have a draw distance where the lighting effect disappears when you get a certain distance from them. So leaving the shelter dark and using camp lights to light the space does not look remotely realistic, as you can only see the "lighting" when you get closer to the light source. Also things like the Enclave doors that have the orange energy fields, you can only see the energy shields appear when you get quite close to them. Same with things like the bug zapper and plasma balls. Bottom line is your custom lighting just ends up looking very artificial and choked off. This issue basically killed all my interest in the shelter.

I kind of wanted to move my house out of whitesprings but I can't find any other good areas to put my camp so I was thinking of just replacing my camp with one of these shelters instead. Sadly I forgot you can't bring food, water, companions, or resource items in your shelter so now these feel kinda pointless :/. I just really wish we could put appliances like coffee makers and shit in these. I don't get why you can't. If you don't want us building multiple to get more that's fine, just limit it with the outside camp it shouldn't be that hard. If you have one in the camp, don't let another in a shelter. If you don't, allow it in the shelter.

Yeah, that would be cool. You can at least put shelter entrances in your shelters, you can still connect them - better than nothing, I guess.

never seen shelters before and honestly they are kind of depressing. I mean look at ESO's structures for building houses in. They are amazing , these are boring imo. unfortunate they didnt do a better job

I'm not a fan of shelters. Yes, they give you a lot of building space but..... no one visits them unless they have to complete a challenge. You talked a little about the thumbnails in the Atomic Shop. IMO they are terrible. You cannot tell what your buying most of the time. What drives me crazy is that the colors are always off. Nothing looks like the thumbnail when your playing the game.
