"Histrionic" is a type of personality disorder! "Histrionic personality disorder is characterized by constant attention-seeking, emotional overreaction, and seductive behavior. People with this condition tend to overdramatize situations, which may impair relationships and lead to depression." according to our best friend Google. Histrionic: a personality disorder part of the Cluster B personality (Narcissism, Anti-social, etc) People with histrionic wants all attention only to themselves, so they act in odd ways. Some of them are charming, some of them are plain weird. They hate when things aren't focused on themselves, so they always have a way to circle the conversation or whatever that's happening all to themselves. These kind of people also grew up with neglectful guardians-- Anyways, Kikuo's song never fails to amaze me~

@duomenot10 ай бұрын
@@raincandy_UU. I can't belive this actually worked. The formatting is a bit messed up because it's a KZbin comment lol. But thank you for asking and I hope you enjoy it. It's not the best but, one of my best papers in highschool apparently. “‘Me,’ ‘myself,’ and ‘I’ still have so much to lose. How many more masks and affectations? If something is not pleasing to the eye, there is nowhere it can ever belong,” cries a miserable child under a spotlight of a grand theater (Kikuo). But the child is nothing but a representation of someone with histrionic personality disorder through a song. A child that describes the emptiness of an attention-seeking character; a song that represents characters like Abigail from The Crucible. It’s a story written by Arthur Miller that goes over the Salem Witch Trials where Abigail and a group of girls were “possessed” by the devil, seeing things that weren’t real, and accusing others of being witches. This later developed to the point where everyone else was pointing at each other and they couldn’t tell between right and wrong. But thanks to Abigail leading the girls, they were able to get their way with their extreme actions with her own need for attention, which relates to histrionic personality disorder. Histrionic personality disorder, also known as HPD, is defined as “a psychiatric disorder distinguished by a pattern of exaggerated emotionality and attention-seeking behaviors.” (French and Shrestha). Like how the word histrionic describes an “overly theatrical or melodramatic in character or style,” it describes someone doing inappropriate, overdramatic actions to gain as much attention as possible from their people. Overdramatic behaviors and actions based on their need for attention and shaped from childhood; histrionic personality disorder act as a problematic disorder within relationships, making them shallow. Throughout The Crucible, Abigail’s histrionic personality disorder fuels conflict throughout the rest of the play because of her excessive actions and her self-centered thoughts, thanks to the superstitious and religious society within Salem. These odd behaviors of Abigail’s can be explained through the many symptoms of HPD. Attention is usually significant within someone’s life because it gives them motivation and allows them to build relationships, but HPD makes that a necessity to the point that someone would do anything for it. And because of this need for attention, they often “have difficulty maintaining relationships, often seeming fake or shallow in their dealings with others.” (Casarella). They may even “threaten or attempt suicide to get attention.” (Casarella). The ones who have HPD only do these dramatic, inappropriate, or life-threatening acts for a small amount of attention, and usually doesn’t benefit them in the long run. Ethics are ignored for the pleasure of attention; the eyes of the people are the only things they need which makes them gullible and easy to manipulate. As attention and appreciation are needed in life, when it’s taken to the extreme, it makes the person seem hollow from their inadequate, theatrical behavior. Throughout the play, Abigail constantly seeks the attention of others to fulfill her goals through dramatic acts of the devil controlling them and playing tricks on them which soon leads Salem into turmoil. For example, Abigail was always the first to start screaming within the play and the rest of the girls would follow her lead, convincing the rest of the people that they were possessed. Like the time when Reverend Hale was trying to persuade Tituba into Christianity, then all the girls started confessing the dances they did and how they did rituals with Tituba. Abigail confessed, “I want to open myself! … I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! I danced for the Devil; I saw him; I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus; I kiss his hand. I saw Sarah Good with the Devil! I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil! I saw Bridget Bishop with the Devil!” (25). Then, the rest of the girls followed Abigail’s cries. They all followed her command because they were threatened after they had been caught dancing. Abigail asserted herself against the girls so she can get what she wants and throughout the play, she does whatever she can for everything to go her way. And the moment she’s not in the scene or somewhat ignored, she jumps up screaming and flailing to make herself act as if she can see the devil. Pretending the devil is playing tricks on Salem and only she and the other girls see them after they had been “tricked” by the devil before; now they pretend to be witnesses for the church. Thanks to the superstitious society built by religion, people believed her and didn’t ignore her cries. This made her and the girls behave irrationally and strangely to kill the people they don’t want and get the treatment they “deserve.” And they got their way, driving the rest of the plot. If this wasn’t such a superstitious town, the people would just call her crazy and leave her alone. These behaviors that Abigail portrays are particularly based on the way they perceive the world around them. Since they cannot seem to comprehend the way they are impacting others, they can only think about themselves and constantly worry about being noticed instead. Because of this focus on others’ approval, Jennifer Casarella comments, “Environmental factors that might be involved include a lack of criticism or punishment as a child, positive reinforcement that is given only when a child completes certain approved behaviors, and unpredictable attention given to a child by their parent(s), all leading to confusion about what types of behavior earn parental approval.” The environment affects the way people perceive the world. And in HPD, it plays a huge factor because they use behaviors they’ve learned and only use them to gain attention. This makes them focus on themselves more and not realize how much they’re hurting everyone else around them with their hollow acts. They only focus on others when it comes to attention. It’s as if they’re the only ones that matter. These shallow perceptions of someone with HPD are also reflected in Abigail’s character. Near the end of the movie version of The Crucible, Abigail comes up to John in jail, before he is hanged. He was trying to prove Abigail wrong, but it all turned on him because Mary Warren didn’t want to face the guilt or be killed as a witch even though she had proof that Abigail and the girls were lying. No one can trust Abigail anymore after realizing how ruined the town had become because of her and they were avoiding her, so she gets desperate, stole money, and ran to the love of her life (The Crucible, 142:09-143:14). But John did not agree to run away with her because of how she destroyed Salem by being hysterical the entire time (The Crucible, 142:09-143:14). His decline caused her to run away because he was the only one she had left and had gone through so much trouble for (The Crucible, 142:09-143:14). It’s clear that Abigail has very low self-esteem within herself because she was constantly seeking everyone else’s approval and listening to her ecstatic cries. But the moment she started being denied and ignored, she could not accept that and got so desperate she stole money from her uncle. She even constantly begged John throughout the story to be with her and when he denied it, she couldn’t accept it and go on to execute her wishes just so it could change his mind. Even in this scene in the movie, she tries to get him to do as she says, but it didn’t convince him. It shows that she only does things for herself, not considering how others might feel or react to her actions because she doesn’t know how they work. She tried to constantly accuse Elizabeth, Proctor’s wife, because she only wanted Proctor for herself. She didn’t take the time to understand who Elizabeth was to him and didn’t seem to get the idea of what his wife means to him. She doesn’t think about why John tries to save his own wife because she’s constantly fixed within her own problems, as if the world revolves around her. It’s clear that she probably doesn’t understand because the environment in Salem must’ve been so restrictive. They were very superstitious because of the church and children were often ignored because they didn’t deserve any attention. The neglect and environment throughout Salem caused Abigail only to consider herself because only people with their heart to God can survive, and the rest are sinners; that it’s every one for themselves and that truth is not actually necessary. Abigail’s inappropriate and ecstatic behaviors and selfish thoughts dependent on others’ approval, she led Salem into hell by wasting innocent lives to fulfill her wishes. She often pretended as though the Devil was all around her and made others do it with her to make herself seem believable. Often screaming, flailing, shaking, and weeping, she did these shallow acts for herself to gain everyone else’s attention, which would also be short-lived unless she continued to do it. She only did this because she liked having whatever she wanted and that was her minimal understanding of the world due to the unfair environment. She never understood anyone else and only needed them to satisfy her own needs. And so, like Abigail’s empty actions to receive nugatory attention, the child sings, “Each mask drives myself further into madness. Ah, I am just a hollow SOMETHING! … I’ll never understand!” (Kikuo).

So, I'm guessing this is about Histrionic Personality Disorder, which is a mental disorder characterized by extreme needs for attention. The lyrics say of things that can translate into "shows of sadness" which depression is common in histrionic personality disorder, or HPD. A stage performance makes a lot of sense for this, as during those you are acting for a crowd, for attention and care, which is what HPD causes you to obsess over.

Yes you are completely right. I was diagnosed with histrionic personality disorder around 2 months ago. I have loved Kikuo for years and seeing some recognition for the disorder makes me feel a bit happy. HPD has ruined my life and made it very difficult for me to function. I was getting in trouble at work and at college for my behaviors. I was very extreme. When I felt like people in the room were ignoring me I would pour soy sauce or hand sanitizer (whatever is available) in my mouth. I faked a pregnancy at one point. I would get kicked out of class for interrupting the teacher so often and trying to divert the classes attention. I exaggerated my blood disorder to make it seem like I was critically ill. All my stories were extremely dramatic. My reactions = dramatic. Sometimes I purposely hurt myself for attention - even though I really didn’t want to. It was mentally agonizing. No matter what I did. The attention was never enough. It hurt so badly I just wanted them all to look at me. I was never satisfied. It ended with me calling my friends and telling them I was going to drive into a telephone pole. I did on February 28, 2021. Instead of rewarding me with the attention that I desperately wanted from my friends, they recognized my manipulative tactics and left me. Since then I have been seeing a personality psychologist who diagnosed me with histrionic personality disorder. I also go to cognitive therapy. I have been working hard to make amends and learn how to be like everyone else. Learning how to unlearn toxic tactics of seeking attention and instead learning how to healthily communicate. There is no cure for this disorder. I will always have an unsatisable need for attention. I just have to cope better.
Kikuo back at it again with the funky steel drums. Gorgeous song.

This song probably my favorite vocals from kikuo's songs, maybe even from any vocaloid song I've heard
Okay, but like, this is really classy as far as the instrumentals go for the most part and I've fallen in love with it? Like whoa.

I interpret this as social masks. Any time I'm with someone, I'm careful about how I act, and I'm super scared people might be deceived by me "Are you having fun? Are you happy? I'm glad to hear that. I was scared, so scared, you see..." and as I care more about others, I forget about myself and forget who I am, what I truly feel so I'm "ready" to deceive anyone because this feeling of not knowing myself puts me in immense panic, it's like a self sabotage where I feel like I deserve to deceive people
@plipploup2142 Жыл бұрын
Even with what I just stated here, I don't know if it's truly how I feel or if it's some generic stuff I heard. Do I truly relate to this? don't know, maybe partially
