Idk why but this reminds me of that story in the Bible where humans were trying to build a tower to god, but since they were getting too far up god knocked it down and made them all speak different languages, so they couldn’t communicate and continue building the tower. And that was the Bible’s explanation for why people speak different languages. I can’t even remember where I heard that story but this strongly reminds me of it for some reason (even though the actual story of this song is probably different.)

nobody is talking about the instrumental theyre all talking about the lyrics and vocals so… the transition into more a techno more shows that this society is advancing, allowing them to build the tower more efficiently. at the end it regresses, showing that with the destruction of the tower, they lost all of the technology that came with it idk, just my interpretation
@lukas.andrew2 ай бұрын
this is the most profound interpretation of this song ive ever seen. well fucking done.
So i really liked the song, and i loved how it did its final verse and how it got to a really simple bit like it did for the first two measures. So i looked up the songs translations and... well i can see why its such an intense song. To the people who dont really know whats going on even after reading the translations a bit the songs an allegory(Am i using that word right?) it at least has a lot of symbolism but it seems pretty straightforward in what the message is. So the song starts off pretty simple. A tower was made that breached the sky, this tower was being built to get to what amounted to heaven. The first time you go up you find a fun place, the second time you go you do so mainly to indulge than have fun. The third time you go you find a place that you never want to leave. The music is pretty simple but fast, showing a bustling and thriving community climbing the tower quickly. The second verse is where it starts to pick up though. It turns out the tower is one made of sins. As it describes as the tower breaches the clouds, there is a passage to hell being dug at the same time. The last half of the verse describes a man "who failed to entertain our demons wishes" and so he fell off the tower. So they buried this man underground and then kept 'raising hell'. The music is more intense than the first verse, but it really picks up in the chorus afterwards. The third verse talks specifically to the man who fell, as it says 'youre the one who broke your promise.' which suggests this is the same man who fell and was promptly buried. It describes how its awful to be alone, and helpless as 'your blood overflows.' Then puts the blame('its not my fault, honest') to the man for breaking his promise. This is a bit of a leap but i interpret this as some sort of proclamation to god. 'This is your fault this tower is being built.' Which makes sense as this would support the second verse being about how the tower was made with sins. So instead of having god give these people permission, the people who felt betrayed and alone turn to sin and try building a tower to heaven to force their way into paradise. Now then the bridge, and we get to the fourth verse.This is where interpretation starts splitting paths. 'one day a rainfall struck making prismatic colors striking us with awe' the second half talks about drinking the rain and becoming addicted to its pleasure. So this can be interpreted as either blood or wine, im going with blood but wine would still have the same message, just a different pathway to it. With blood it suggests that people started making this tower out of either slaves(literally) or by killing to get what they want, both would make sense as in the video the tower is now made of corpses and not bricks. Showing a transition from smaller sins to full blown taking peoples lives away from them. Keep in mind that the singers voice in this version of the video gets deeper each verse. Fifth verse supports fourth verse, the higher the tower and the higher you go, the more the rain pours,making you more and more addicted to the lifestyle you have taken in climbing the tower. The sixth verse has a sense of no going back. The people can see heaven pretty much('our job is almost done'). The last line of this verse being 'we cant decend unless we prefer to die'. The people in this story were so wrapped up in their sin that if they were to realise the horrors of what they were doing and try to escape it, they would just end up being killed by the people who helped them get there in the first place. The seventh verse is much darker. Showing the people who are still climbing and how much they end up speaking like monsters. 'More rain, please i need to drink it all. I want it all, quench my thirst for pleasure.' The final line of this verse showing how they are doing this for themselves: Hurry up and build so i can be appeased. Verse Eight. We hit the climax, and as soon as we were inches from heaven all hell breaks loose. A bird flies to the tower and breaks it down, destroying everything. This shows how the sins end up catching up to the people who commit them. Verse nine. Describes how the people higher up the tower end up falling harder. But even the people at the bottom of the tower had to run away from this collection of sins breaking down, 'Men, women, and children all fled to survive'. People who didnt even take part in this tower were being harmed and punished by the deeds and sins of those who did. Verse 10: The music suddenly goes back to the calmness of the first two measures. Revealing how years passed since the tragedy occured, and that there were still people searching for the same pleasure that they experienced before. Soon enough someone finds a piece of treasure and studies it. And concludes that the only way to get the same pleasure... is to climb again. Then the final chorus plays. Revealing how this tower wasn't just a single incident, but its something that gets built again and again for the pleasures and sins of man in an attempt to reach heaven. And failing again and again, destroying the people climbing it and those around the tower. In an endless cycle of horror. *tl;dr: a very happy song that shows the highlights of man and their devotion to god*
@Y0UT0PIA5 жыл бұрын
You did a great job with that, I think it's exactly right. You have to resist the temptation of interpreting the tower as representing something immediate and specific (drugs/pleasure-seeking, a totalitarian regime) to see the more fundamental reading as a kind of modern retelling of the tower of babel, perhaps built out of a sense of having been wronged by the structure of existence and wanting compensation, no matter whether the methods by which one gets it are themselves unjust. The cycle of rebellion against the divine created by this mindset is a self-rolling wheel, and so the tower will be built again and again until people learn to value not doing injustice over being compensated for the injustice they have been subjected to.
@Tavibear5 жыл бұрын
Im not surprised that your concept about them building a tower to heaven. They had something similar like this happened in Bible where people decide to go and build the tower to heaven but God didn't like it so he broke the tower and made everybody speak in different tongues so that way they can't work together to make another Tower again

I wouldn't say it was their devotion to God. I would say it is their selfishness to seek more and more pleasure while still being very sinful. They no longer think of God, they only think of "oh how great heaven will be and what we will find in it! How great we will feel in it!"

The more I listen to this song, the more it feels like a reprimand of capitalism. We Build and Build, trying to get upward in life. Trying to make it so people have more and more. But the tower can't hold up that much weight forever. The world can't handle it forever. And eventually it will come tumbling down. And when it does, the only resources left to try and rebuild, will be parts of the old tower. So might as well make a new one. After all, it's all we know.

I love how Kikuo makes songs sound so nostalgic, without actually being nostalgic. It's probably because of the accordion (I had a sub teacher in elementary that played the accordion), for me, or the "childish", and melancholic aesthetic to these songs. Honestly, I kind of miss it in his newer songs. I still love his recent musical experimentation though

According to my interpretation this is about a capitalist economy, in which things are promised if you work more and more, but some will simply serve to be stacked on the tower so that it reaches higher, however this does not matter to them because everyone wants the happiness and stability that the top promises them, but sooner or later that system ends up collapsing/failing at some point; the few people who survived before the tower fell are still looking for that stability, therefore they will continue using bodies and stepping on top of others in order to reach the top. At least I get the impression that's the meaning because even though they have to run over others, they will. Or about the fact that at the top there are promised things like happiness and pleasure...that and this line: "The rain is falling at a place so high above, and you can drink it when you're at a spot high enough. Finding the taste of it always on your mind, then you'll realize one drop will never be enough". After that, the lyrics say that humans started using other people's corpses to get to the top. Has anyone heard someone say that they will do everything to get to the top (success)? That's why I think it's about capitalism, plus the promise that if you push yourself and reach high enough, everyone can reach the top. The tower would be the economy that is made based on the exploitation of others (in this case bodies) although we could also say that it is about the exploitation of natural resources, people, etc. in general. "All we wanted was to live up high above". In other words, the song is about greed.

welp, upon seeing the translated lyrics, i see a very familiar story (these are my interpretations, read with a grain of salt) the tower being erected in the first place symbolizes mankind's inherent wish to become enlightened and "higher." i see this more literally, the tower to me represents the dream of becoming someone above other men, ie wealthy as people climb the tower, they either progress further or die trying. those that die become stepping stones for those already succeeding. of course, as they get higher, they don't care that people die so that they themselves can climb the tower even higher. the rain symbolizes power and wealth. finally, their climbing has proven to be fruitful, and they won't stop there. the wealthy begin to prey on the weak to build the tower higher and higher just to fuel their pleasures, caring not for the lives of the bodies used in the wall. eventually, a bird flies in and destroys the tower built from greed and sacrifice. the bird symbolizes a sudden revolt or maybe even the hand of god himself. the people climbing the tower fall to the bottom of the tower and die, to be discovered years later by intelligent people. the intelligent people realize that their ancestors or whatever climbed a tower in search of great pleasure, only to die terribly after causing many other deaths. so of course, they build another tower, because mankind wants nothing but to please themselves at any cost, thus repeating the cycle thank you for coming to my ted talk~

So here's my theory on this song: This tower is supposed to represent a business or the world of work in general. In the first verse, the people climbing the tower are happy and enjoy the place so much that they never want to leave, these people may represent those who start work for the first time, or are at least new to this very business, and are intrigued at the chance to work somewhere 'different'. When the verses change and the tower descends into a 'construction site from hall's then this may represent the emerging or previously hidden problems in the world of work that newbies may not have noticed. Furthermore, when the line 'all of us used up as bait' was used, I interpret that as how people may get trampled from all the competition taking place in the company, and how many collapse under pressure. However, those who do make it out on top can be suggested as the ones who tasted the 'special rain', which I interpret is actually 'money' or 'power'. When the tower collapses, since it is made out of the bodies of people, aka the people who were crushed chasing their dreams, that can be seen as how, when the company shuts down, many workers and their families are 'crushed' with little way to support themselves. Now, here's the interesting part, when a person found out what was creating the rain, I believe the line 'it's plain, that is the place where you'll find plenty of pleasure to wash away pain' represented how the 'power' was all meaningless in the end and many people lost themselves to it, forgetting social life etc. Finally when the song begins again, I think this shows how people never learn from their mistakes and continue to strive for something that will only end up hurting them in the end. In a way, I think this entire song represents Japan's world of work, from how many Japanese work long and tiring hours in order to climb the business and gain more money for a better life, yet only get paid near minimum wage whilst big leaders at the top leave easier lives.

A pretty good interpretation. Its problem is that there was never been any global collapse of the job market. Yes, sometimes big companies also cease to exist, but this is a rather rare phenomenon, while the song says that the fall of a high tower is something natural, because it was "not wide enough", and the construction of the tower itself describes very unsightly, although the company is not something terrible, it is just a form of organization of people and it is difficult to describe a simple company in such terrible words. I think my interpretation is still more correct. The tower itself represents the progress of mankind, and is divided into levels, so there is also an association with Maslow's pyramid. This progress is achieved by the work of ordinary people - that's why the tower is built on flesh and blood, weapons and crimes are also being improved, that's why demons who are criminals are mentioned. People climbing up don't look down, that is, they are not interested in the life of undeveloped societies that suffer. With the development of progress, a rainbow rain appears - something that was previously unattainable and indescribable, the appearance of cinema and photography. People are happy and continue to strive for progress, which is expressed in the exploitation of workers' labor by those from above, there are also constant conflicts between states, so blood is pouring out of the tower. All this ends with the fact that the World War I is happening - the tower is collapsing, people stopped believing in progress and went down. However, then people realize that having risen high enough, progress will stop and everyone will be happy forever - the idea of world communism, and the song turns into something like a revolutionary march demanding to build a tower, and this is something good, since society never ceases to exist and always strives further even when falling.

I cant help but think about how this song goes in a loop. the candy rain could be blood, and if it was then it would be blood from the people above. and if you skip later in the song you can hear their perspective. when the tower starts falling down, if you go back a little you can see people falling off. i think its not a moving story, but rather a big tower showing different perspectives with each part. also you can see its one picture that slowly moves up. sorry if this dosent make sense
