I've started using Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed and have had pretty good success with it. I had it recommended to us from a landscape professional and is listed to protect against aphids, whiteflies, scale, etc. Great video as always, Doc, keep 'em coming!

Happy to have found this video. I noticed my crepe myrtles weren't looking healthy with leaves missing, eaten leaves and the leaves turning dark. Sure enough, it was a aphid problem. I purchased the items in this video to treat them. It's mid September 2022, so it won't do an entire lot since leaves will be falling soon. Yet I know what to do in order to treat them in the spring.

I use Bayer product too. I use it on all shrubs and trees, specially crape myrtles and Rose's. I had an arborist ask me what I was using because my trees and trunk looked so healthy.
@karenross34574 жыл бұрын
I use one that you sprinkle around the tree. My crape myrtle is too large for me to spray.

I prune my Crape Myrtle every January to nothing. Then during the growing season I prune the trunks bare from ground to about seven feet tall. Then I get on a ladder and prune the inside of the tree to allow good air flow. Ever since I started this the bugs have not returned.

Thanks for your help, I just ordered products. Can I use the Neem oil on my Crepe Myrtles as a preventative for those trees that aren't showing signs of aphids?

I have planted dwarf crape myrtles in our front planters twice now. The first time all 3 died… this 2nd time, they bloomed and looked great for about 2-3 months but now they look sick and I found some sooty black mold and some aphids under the leafs. We have sprayed with the dawn soap and water solution but we aren’t noticing a difference yet. The location of this planter is full sunlight (all morning up until 2 pm then it is shaded by the house. Do you have any recommendations on what we should do? How often should we spray and/or any other ideas would be appreciated! Thank you!

I had these bad last year. Never got a great solution so thanks for sharing. Just let it go and the winter killed them off but the Crepes definitely didn't like it. So far so good this year. Fingers crossed.

Hi Doc! Just came across this video. This helps so much with understanding what’s happened to our crepe myrtles! Question: what time of day do hon recommend for watering them? We have a timed irrigation and were told once that we were watering at the wrong time and it was making mold grow... any advice? Thanks!

I’ve been using the insect killing soap in your link but I can’t seem to get rid of the aphids in my crepe myrtle? Am I doing something wrong?
@AluminumCloud745 жыл бұрын
My crape myrtles were all infested badly with aphids last year. This year I put down a systemic insecticide drench, just last week actually. I had pretty good luck using diatomaceous earth last year (just spray it all over the leaves), but it can harm bees and of course you have to reapply if it rains. When bees are foraging I just use the water hose on "jet" and spray the little suckers off.

Am I correct in thinking that I should spray the leaves with a water hose first to try and wash the aphids off, then spray it all over with Neem Oil? If this is correct, how often will I need to do it. I've just noticed the aphids, dark leaves, and blooms are diminishing this week, 07/20/20.

Neem oil does NOT AFFECT BEES,,! Please do not convey incorrect information, that brand is not pure cold press neem oil. I have bee hives and been using neem oil since 2004! Please research this more in-depth.
@HowTowithDoc5 жыл бұрын
If we show a product... we tell people what the label says. We're not showing cold press. "BEE HAZARD: This product is toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment. Do not apply this product while bees are actively visiting the treatment area."
