Budd works for an abusive boss because it's a masochistic way of torturing himself for his past life. As we can clearly see, he hates himself for all of the bad things he's done, and working in such a demeaning job is a twisted sort of penance for it. It could also be a way of testing himself to see how committed he is to not be killing people anymore.

Honestly…I believe Budd saying “she deserves to die too” is him commenting on the fact that The Bride was just like them, a Hired Killer-- she killed just like Bill and the Rest, in fact, she was seen as the Best of them(both good and bad morally, professionally, etc.) second to Bill and Tied with Ellie(in prowess in Professional killing)… The Bride’s got blood on her hands as thick as they all do…. So that’s what I believe Budd was commenting on. And given her shared history, I also believe that is why all of them(even Eille to a degree) took The Bride’s “leaving” as such a high level betrayal-- because they were in it for life and only get to leave on terms they all agreed on-- and The Bride just legit high-tailed and ran-- faking her death, leading them to strike blood retribution (implied by the script), in her name and the heart ache that Bill felt thinking his Love was killed and her body disposed of without a trace-- like trash.

Two notes: One, in the first scene of the first film, B said "Bill, it's your baby" just as he shot her in the head. So he knew just a second too late that BB was his daughter, which is why he raised her. Two, in the anime flashback for O-Ren, the assassin that killed her father, the person she never saw and therefore never knew about, was Bill. Bill knew about her, hence the irony of her working for him.

The buried alive scene in theaters was crazy, because the whole theater went black too making those sound effects that much more terrifying since you could hear it from every direction. The Bill fight is hands down my favorite fight despite it going so fast. I've rewatched it going frame by frame and Bill is toying with her the whole time. If she didn't know the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique she wouldn't have stood a chance, which is insane considering the amount of death and destruction we saw her do between these two movies. That's why no one messed with Bill. All the rest of them combined couldn't touch him. He's just that dangerous. She HAD to use the one move he didn't know and didn't have a counter for.

I think of all the deaths in this film, Bud’s death is the saddest. The poor guy was clearly tormented by his past while the rest either embraced it or basically ignored it, and I think he was truly remorseful for his actions. I said this on the last video, but just worth reiterating, don't hold your breath for Kill Bill Vol. 3. I'd bet anything that it is not his next (and final) film. The premise would indeed be Copperhead's daughter getting revenge on Beatrix -- but it is almost certainly going to go the way of The Vega Brothers and the backstory of the Inglourious Basterds as an unrealized project (at least as a movie -- maybe he'll write it as a book or something after he directs whatever he does do next and retires from filmmaking). I'm also sure I said this on the last one but PLEASE watch Jackie Brown! It's incredible!

Hey George, little background on the character of Bak Mei, aka Pai Mei: In Guandong and Fujian martial arts lore, there was a Shaolin temple in Fujian where many of the martial arts of those regions claim origin from. Five Masters came from that temple, and Bak Mei was one of them (There is a real life Bak Mei style attributed to him). Some other examples include the nun Ng Mui (Wing Chun, White Crane) and Ji Saam (Hung Ga, Choy Ga, etc.). For a short version of the story, he eventually became dissatisfied with Shaolin and defected to the Taoists, and then later ended up assisting with the burning and massacre of the Shaolin Temple in retaliation. Other than the characteristic white beard/eyebrow/topknot situation, he is also normally characterized by being nearly invincible having mastered Iron Body, and being able to withdraw his genitals at will to avoid damage.

I love how very different these two movies are, but still work so well together. In the first movie Uma is killing everybody, in this second one she basically just kills one. Of course it's not very likely that Elle survives, leaving her blind with that snake was pretty much a death sentence, but still. And those final scenes with Bill were so amazing, after all this buildup it could almost only disappoint, but QT pulled it off masterfully. And David Carradine was so absolutely perfect for that role. Volume 1 is the movie you want to watch again and again, but volume 2 elevates them both to another level.

26:03 He nama is Perla Haney-Jardine. She's 25 now. She also played Steve Jobs' daughter in the 2015 movie starring Michael Fassbender. And she most recently had a role in another Tarantino movie, apparently playing a "hippie drup dealer" in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019. She also played Sandman's daughter in Spider-Man 3.

One of my favorite things that I didn't realize until I rewatched these as an adult. Pai Mei claims Beatrix's right arm for himself and says that he wants his arm to be strong. It is Pai Mei's arm that punches her out of the coffin, snatches out Elle's eye, and kills Bill. It is symbolical of Pei Mei giving her the strength to survive. Another neat thing is that in the final fight with Bill, Beatrix catches his sword with the sheath, symbolically sheathing his sword as his battle is now over. I also find it funny that Beatrix went to Hattori Hanzo to get a sword for her revenge, yet in the end only O-Ren is actually killed with it.

"White Eyebrow" is an actual fighting style, named after the man who developed it. He was considered a traitor for various reasons, which is why his image is often used for one of dubious morals.

In the early 70s I lived in LA. Every weekend a group of us would go to Chinatown to watch what we called, "Sword Movies" which ranged from actual weapons to Kung Fu to magical. George would have loved it.

Fun Fact: Tarantino had been thinking about Kill Bill as far back as Pulp Fiction. He had approached Uma about it then and Fox Force Five was written in Mia's background. It was just a pitch at the time but he shelved it for a long time.

5:32 Note the connection between this movie and Django Unchained. Paula Schultz was the deceased wife of Dr King Schultz (Christoph Waltz)

In the flashback to the wedding rehearsal, that flute melody Bill is playing is the theme that introduces the Lee Van Cleef character in “the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” (aka The Bad). So while people who don’t know the music might think it’s just a haunting melody, the Morricone buffs are all thinking “oh … s-t”. QT always has the best needle drops.

Two Things: Pai-Mei saying that he owned Beatrix's arm, he plucked out Elle's eye (I think I remember that he did) & that he swore he would get revenge on Elle for poisoning his food...Beatrix plucks out Elle's other eye with the same arm that Pai-Mei claimed, so in a sense, he did get revenge after all. Also, I don't know, but the ending of Vol. 2 with Beatrix just releasing everything in the bathroom after everything she's been through or was it just the late Euphoria setting in from the truth serum...or a mix of both ya think? The crying/smiling and then the "Thank You" may have been to Bill for taking care of "B.B." (Beatrix & Bill?) or for the euphoric feels for her to "detox" in a sense...or both? Damn gifted writing... Oh, damn...3 things: In Vol. 1, you could make out Beatrix Kiddo's name when they did a close up on the ticket that she bought to Japan if you were wondering. Great Reactions, BTW. lol

After vol.1 I was not expecting an even better reaction, but S&G delivered! Have never seen people enjoy a movie this very much (ok, actually second most, next to me making the whole audience laugh double when watching the movie "Bean" in 1997) 😅😂🤣 Both mentioned instances were each a great experience, thanks again 🥳

The Shaw Brothers used the character Pai Mei (sometimes referred to as the "white-browed priest") quite often in their films. He was arguably most notably portrayed by the actor Lo Lieh (very famous hong kong action star back in the day) who played the character at least twice, including Executioners from Shao Lin. In that film, actor Gordon Liu played a brief supporting role (he gets killed roughly 10 minutes into the movie). And now in KB Volume II, he assumed the role of Pai Mei (and of course, Gordon Liu also played the leader of the Crazy Eights in the first Kill Bill film). The two-inch punch training was actually in a different Shaw Brothers film called Shaolin Martial Arts featuring Fu Sheng and Chi Quan-Chun who portrayed the character who underwent the finger training (eventually he had to ring a giant iron bell by hitting it with his fingers).

The little girl suggesting they watch the video "Shogun Assassin"; for those not familiar - is a compiled version of the "Lone Wolf and Cub"; a story about a Samurai who travels Japan with their infant son. Which is fitting for how the movie ends.

you actually can find out her name already in the first film when she says "One ticket to Okinawa" and you see the short montage of her traveling there you can see her ticket flash by and her name is visible on it ;)

Tarantino said that he pitted Uma vs. Daryl as an homage to the Japanese monster film WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS (Now all I want to see is them as giantesses clashing in Tokyo).

As a martial artist, I can confirm that the mindset aspect is real. To break anything, you need to attack with the mission of striking through your target. The moment you start doubting yourself, your body will automatically pull back the power on your strike.

A little Easter Egg: the razor that Uma Thurman uses to free her hands when she's in the coffin is the same razor Michael Madsen used to cut off the cop's ear in Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino likes to re-use movie props and pay hommage to himself
