Character writing is so good, everyone has its own personality and goals. Denji is growing each episode but staying true to his woman obsession tendencies. Aki's defending Denji cuz he needs his power to defeat Gun Devil. Power being Power. Himeno not wanting to lost her another partner and Kobeni's 36th heart stroke. It's crazy how there are no writers, all of this is written just by one man Tatsuki Fujimoto - the author of original manga. COnsidering how the stoory will go in the future I cannot call him anything other than a genius.

I think for Himeno it's a little bit more than just 'losing partner'. its shown in multiple scene that Aki stood up for her when people trample her and she just accepts being punching bag for grieving individuals. Add the trauma of losing partner of course she would break, it's like actually losing either a lover or a sibling who always stood by her.

This is a shonen Anime. It’s part of the dark trio of shonen manga/anime. Which basically means it’s kinda a seinen manga/anime because it focuses on darker themes and some scenes can definitely fit a more mature audience. Btw the dark trio is Chainsawman/Hell’s paradise/ Jujutsu Kaisen, with hell’s paradise being the only one without an anime (until 2023).

It is not a translation thing, it is a reading comprehension thing... He told Power that devils can't make contracts with other devils since she wanted to accept the contract. And then said that they won't agree to the contract since they only kill devils. He humanized Denji by implying that he's not a devil.

Part 1 of the manga is around 100 chapters, and this season is looking to adapt around 30+. Assuming they adapt a similar amount each season, there should be three total (12 episode) seasons to fully adapt part 1. Part 2 of the manga is still ongoing

All the anime you guys have watched are shonen except for cyberpunk edgerunners and cowboy bebop, which are called “anime originals”. And also, it looks like Chainsaw Man would have 24 episodes. Just gives them more time to really pour as much love as they can into it. With 24 eps, I doubt they'd be able to keep up the same consistency, especially when they already had a lot of production issues with season 1. Definitely a shame though cause we probably won't get S2 until 2024 at the earliest :(

Re: source material, length. The Chainsaw Man manga, or at least its "first part" (which is a complete story with a fairly definitive end- the second part is really more of a sequel) is 97 chapters long. This episode adapts through to the 13th page (...) of the 18th chapter. So the anime is adapting three-ish chapters per episode, at which rate it would require 32 episodes to adapt the whole thing? Fan speculation, based on the characters appearing in the OP, has been that the season will end somewhere near chapter 39, which would close out a major story arc, but at this pace chapter 32 seems more likely.

Given how flawlessly faithful the adaptation and its pacing has been thus far, I don't think they'll try to adapt the entirety of K. Man arc. They'd really have to rush through it or cut a lot of content to manage that, so I am hoping they call it quits around 32, even if the season finale isn't all that satisfying of a conclusion. I'd take that over them butchering an arc any day

Chainsaw Man is a "shonen" manga as it was published in shonen jump originally, however it is often referenced as being only shonen is structure and is much closer to a "seinen" manga. As for how long it is, if you want to know(Series Length spoilers): The original Chainsaw Man story is 96 chapters long, much shorter than most other shonen manga, but that is where the author intended to end it. This episode ended midway through chapter 18. Most expectations for the series are that there will be around 25-30 episodes total to complete it, so definitely a second season is needed and potentially a third depending on how Mappa chooses to adapt it.

A lot of anime studios do this consistent thing where they do 3-5 chapters from a manga depending on its page length and thats the length of a regular anime 23-25 min ep! However, in rare cases only one chapter will be used for one ep length, due to its page length. Ep 1 solely only took chapter 1 material and thats it.

Your biggest hottake in the episode is the hot seat in Japan 🤣 especially with the automatic warm water bidet? That's the best Japanese invention my guy. Other than that I agree with you and I think it is a disposition episode but done so well imo because it is important to understand the world especially devils, aki himeno relationship, Denji degeneracy but also his development and most importantly the theme to the audience of how its show main themes centers on the characters. For your last question about 'shonen': CSM technically a shounen (targeted demographic young boys) but with heavy seinen (targeted demo adult man), cowboy bebop (I'm not an expert so do correct me on this) is sci-fi fantasy technically seinen since it tackles so much more adult themes such as nihilism, sense of purpose, depression, sense of belonging, loneliness, lost, etc. Hope it helps!

In basic terms shonen is a genre targeting young adult males. CSM and most of Tatsuki Fujimoto's work is more towards the seinen (genre for adult males) side of things but CSM still keeps the tropes of shonen to play with and subvert expectations. This is all mostly unrelated to show length. If you want to know... Part 1 is 97 chapters in length this episode adapted to chapter 18 so at about 3 chapters per episode and 12 episodes per season it is probably about 3 seasons for part 1
