Dating to 1943, this film "Kill or Be Killed" was produced as part of the "Fighting Man" series of WWII training films. Shown to soldiers during indoctrination, the film uses a series of staged re-creations to demonstrate that there are no rules of sportsmanship or fairplay on battlefield. "Anything goes," states the narrator, "when the stakes are kill or be killed". Soldiers are encouraged to improvise and use any weapon that comes to hand, be it a rifle, bayonet / trench knife or hand grenade.

Following the IHL is one of the biggest blunders we have committed. We haven’t fought one enemy that follows it but we do and have paid the price. War is ugly, not tv appropriate. If we go in it should be done as quickly and violently as possible to achieve our goal, period. Anything else is politics and has no place once the trigger is pulled.
