I got to play Kill Switch during its time, finishing it about 3 times. It felt so different than everything else, I loved it!

Time to kill is fast, which makes it fun. Other cover shooters often have bullet spungy enemies.

Thats actually a bad thing, same as Rainbow Six Vegas, you are rarely going to use cover system and more often rely on first person gun sights and manually poke around corners, which makes third person view kinda pointless

@@elwin5054 The way I understand your comment is enemies must be able to tank damage and be tedious to fight, so there is a point on the cover system ? By your argument cover systems are the actual issue, because we must make the game unfun just to make them relevant ?

@@sektor_mk2 Are Gears of War or Uncharted bad games? All I'm saying is that easiest and most effective way to beat kill.switch/rainbow six vegas is by treating them like traditional FPS and holding aim down sights button which makes third person view and whole cover system redundant.

@@elwin5054 Sometimes elements in game design conflict. If I understand correctly, your point is this is not clean game design. This is a valid point. But I do not see this being valid for this game in particular. The footage looks fine. I do not care for Vegas. If a game flows well as a traditional shooter, I am fine with that as well.

Gears of War dev codename was Resident Kill Switch (for both Resident Evil 4 and this game) so it definitely left a print. As it is, it reminds me a lot of those PSP Syphon Filter games. Sometimes you're just drawn to the equivalent of B-movies, and there's nothing wrong with enjoying it!

I could be wrong...but i'm pretty sure the "blind fire" aspect was its main gimmick. It had not been done before...

The commercial for this game was awesome. I remember they would always run it during Monday night raw. The blind cover was a pretty unique at the time. When gears of war came out it really reminded me of this game

I knew this would be a strong suggestion since you are a fan of cover based mechanics! I also very much agree with you, on the replay value of any game as that is important, it would be awesome to have many things to do even after you complete the campaign mode on all the difficulty levels, like custom missions or arena or challenge modes with various enemies and situations, all to keep players coming back to the same title. Black is another example, a solid campaign but nothing else.

This game actually inspired the huge third person shooter boom in the 2000s. Both Gears of War and Uncharted took inspiration from the cover system

First there was Winback and I liked it. Then there was Kill Switch and I liked it too. Then there was Gears of War and I couldn't go back and play these older cover shooters anymore.

Didn't perform strongly as I recall but it put a lot of other studios on notice with the cover mechanics. I picked it up because I saw so many things I had also liked about WinBack: Covert Operations, another lost gem.

The cover shooting looks smooth. But what turns me off are the bland environments. The earliest cover shooter I like is probably Everything or Nothing, which benefits from being a Bond Game by presenting nice environments and different gameplay styles like stealth and driving. The cover shooting isn't as smooth as this though, relying on lock-on.

Man, I remember when this came out, I had a longtime friend who happened to be in my CS clan - and she LOVED this game so much. Like, constantly talked about it and really wanted me to get it on the Xbox (the version she had) but I never did. While I was impressed with the cover mechanics at the time since as mentioned in the video it was still kind of new-ish, graphically PC games already looked much better by 2004 (more or less lol) and I was just not really interested. That being said, at some point in the mid-2010s I did get it from an abandonware site and I enjoyed the game for what it is. Also, I found the voice acting funny. It was just, off lol

I guess stuff like this and Winback were fundamental for this type of game pre-gears of war
