You can run a one box kroot kill team! Just use only kroot carnivores. There are 16 in a box and you only need 12 for a kill team!

Also maybe I am misunderstanding, according to the goonhammer article you need 7 neophyte hybrids for a fire team, but there are 10 in a box. Does this not mean you can get a one box fire team for genestealer cults? Same with the acolyte hybrids which are 5 and require 5?

@@jamestown9883 Happy to have you over here, bud! Slight mix up in terminology here. Note that in this game you run a KILL team that is made up of 2 FIRE teams (the exceptions being marines and harlequins that only have 1 fire team making up their kill team). So for GSC, you need 2 boxes of any mix between the 3 datasheets to have a legal kill team that is made up of 2 fire teams. This is laid out clearly at the top of the compendium page when you go to create your GSC team. Now, if you really want to keep investment down, then you could all agree to give a ingle fire team game a go and just say no marines or harlies.

I believe you are mistaken about kroot. Carnivores come in a box of 16, so while it wouldn't be terribly interesting a 13 model killteam (1 leader + 12 other carnivores) could be made out of that box. It would just lack the more interesting hounds and krootox.

If we streatch to include kill team as a 1 box set, Genestealer Cults can if you buy the Start Collecting set. 1 squad of neophyte and 1 squad of Acolyte. Then you can probably sell the truck to another person and make a nice bit on the side

The imperium magazines seem to have been designed to cater to kill team ironically, the premium kit 'rewards' have been good. Genestealers and termagants (enough of each, but don't know if anyone wants termagants in KT). 10 fire warriors and a stealth suit team. 10 CSM (alas shadowspear set but hey). So that's what I've been doing, building a pool of playable teams for KT to hopefully get some friends involved.

I kind of like how marines are done, i think the 20 model roster is also an interesting limitation which feels like it mostly affects just them. Since I think you'd want 5x of the nearly identical primaris marines, but then also scouts and a tactical squad and Deathwatch are all good choices.

Yup, my mistake on the kroot. I mean we have to assume that there will be KT specific boxes, but then the booklet that would need to come with them would be rather substantial. Datacards could be cards like Warcry, but all the narrative and special rules and name generator etc.

I thing Grey Knights are my next faction to pick up. Have Necrons, Tau, Death Guard and Assault intercessors for Space Marines. Get GK will be my first team with psychic in KT.

I like GK, obviously, but my fear with them is that they are VERY one note. There is zero variation. I think you can make 5 guys and call it a day, never have to make a 6th. Which is great in some ways, of course, but with a single fire team and no options... :/

you can take a roster of 20 models. That means that demons wants 3 boxes. Plague marines will want 2 boxes or to magnetize their models. Space marine probably want 2 to 3 boxes since you want a kill team of deathwatch and a kill team of something else. GK is ok, one box is fine. Custodes, magnets I pressume. And the list goes on.

Hello. I believe you are not correct regarding Mechanicus / Forge World killteams. Box consist of 10 models from which you can build two fire teams of 5 skitarii, be it rangers or vanguards one of them can be Alpha. As rules in compendium states, you can have up to two gunners in your fire teams, and that they cannot have same weapons in one fire team. but you still can build three gunners in total where one team havs one and the other has two. It might not be most effective way, but it seems legal. Leaders shouldnt be problem as well at it says, If you killteam doesnt have another leader you can have alfa ranger or vanguard as fireteam leader. If you have one with pistol-melee and other with rifle/carbine its still ok. And as far As I can see It is following one box two fire teams requisit. Although I do not understand. If I select two fireteams is leader one of members or is it another operative aside from fire teams. In that case you would be correct.

Hello! I know it seems odd because every other team follows the one box thing, but not admech. If the leader is included it will say that INSTEAD of picking a normal model you pick a leader. But when the leader is an additional model it will say you can also pick xxx

I played Harlequins and they are in the odd situation of being very fragile so dying in close combat, but also needing to be in combat to do damage, so... They will have some good matchups and some bad matchups, I think.

I don't think that 5 Rubrics is actually going to be particularly effective as a team, but it's technically possible, so it makes this list. I could be wrong though, they are very killy! I know a lot of people are thinking TSons are top tier right now, but they're all running 1 rubrics and 1 tzaangor, as far as I know

When you take 1 rubric 1 tzaangor, you only get it work for icon bearer (team with src gunner and sorcerer). When you take another fire team with two standard rubrics, you can get 3 extra shots with it! Of course, rubrics having only 2 apl means that you can't use this strategy in first "turn" because you probably need to move your guys on positions, but in second turn, it could be something worth taking. What's your thoughts about such idea? I was never much into kill team, I'm learning so I could teach my friends and family, so if I don't figure out a good kill teams for them to play, I will ruin their first plays.

Are you saying the 10 miniature box of Marine Infiltrators can be used as 5 infiltrators and 5 Incursors? Are they different just based on what weapons they're holding, and if they have the different exposed heads (easy to 3D print new heads). (Forgive me, I'm not a diehard 40K player, just into Killteam, and the varieties of marines is a little daunting)

Hey bud, all good. So, if you go to the GW website and search for "Primaris Infiltrators" you will see a box of 10 models. If you look closely you'll see it says they can also be built as "Incursors". This means that you can build the first 5 of these as Infiltrators and the second 5 as Incursors. The 2 models are very similar! Just a slightly different gun modification and backpack :)

Wouldn’t Start Collecting Gene Stealer Cult technically be a one box Kill Team? Just saying: maybe the number of boxes isn’t as important as the cost? After all, you still get a 20 model roster form which you select models for your fire teams from. From that perspective, most 20 model lists would need two boxes minimum anyways.

It's a bit of an oddity. I kind of love the idea of KT on a hexboard, but as we know it's just a limited ruleset, it seems odd to take a step back to play it. I hope that a lot of people from the boardgame side take a look at it and eventually find their way over to KT :)

@@GlassHalfDead The data cards are pretty similar. It does not appear that Ranged and Melee weapons are treated different though. Melee are just range 1 (next hex). I do not think it has conceal/engage mechanic though.

I’m still thinking about buying a Combat Patrol for Adepta Sororitas for multiple options, and in case they end up letting us run Seraphim eventually. Would I still have the proper bits like guns or are the more buildable ones out of the specific boxes better?

Sure, so that box is entirely monopose with no options, so you are a bit limited. You'd end up with a stormbolter and a flamer. But you could run the repentia as 4 repentia and the superior as your Leader, then the 5 battle sisters, with stormbolter or flamer able to swap out as needed :)

@@rinsgravity2007 Actually I don't much care for 3D printing. It seems to be a hobby in and of itself, and I quite like plastic so am happy to stick to that. However I love 3rd party models, I think they're great! And if cost is an issue then 3D printing is good for others. So yeah, no issues for me on either front :D

Okay, so I checked the models and the thing is... you can technically do this, yes. But it's not a good team and it's super limited. I would instead suggest just buying the deathwatch kill team box and doing what you want from that as it has every option there.

Oh yeah, the greenscreen was terrible here. Sadly, I am just a guy in his shitty flatshare room. Without having a huge lifestyle change, I legit can't make it any better at this point in my life. I deliberately moved away from just showing my bedroom behind me because I felt that was a bit too bleh, but tbf if I can't get the greenscreen figured out, I guess that's actually the better option. IT just means that to record a video I have to leave work int he middle of the day, drive home, record, drive back to work. That's what I'd been doing for the last month to do those warcom articles. Anyway, no one cares about my excuses, just my end product and it's my choice if I can/want to put in the effort to fix things. Happy to have you along for the ride regardless though and shall stop QQing :P

Hey, I'm looking to try kill team for the first time using part of my 40k ultramarine assault intercessors but I'm unsure what I actually need to buy? Any pointers? All i have are the models , intercessors , infiltrators and assault intercessors from my 40k army

Okay well you've got the models you need, enough for 3 different kill teams. You have a 40k army so I'm guessing you have the basics like dice. If you just want a one off, see if you like it, game then you can play without anything else. But if you want to give it a shot then you'll want to pick up the kill team essentials. This gives you a bunch of tokens which are very helpful for tracking the orders your operatives are set to. You can still just use a tape measure, no need to buy into the shapes immediately. To learn the rules there's the core book or online versions of it depending on budget. And that's pretty much it. A few tokens, dice, rules, you're ready to go!

@@connorwright26 there was a big release box called octarius, which you might still be able to find a copy (I think that element games in the UK still has a few left) and that gives you absolutely everything all in one box including rules and all. Failing that, Chalnath with tau and sisters is the current kill team box that will provide a board and terrain and rules for the teams within (no core rulebook though!). And if you're not dying to get this done asap then we're expecting a new box to drop next month that is eldar corsairs and chaos cultists with board and terrain. Also, if you wait just a week or two, then the kill team starter box will release, which is like a mini octarius box.

@@connorwright26 again, if we're ignoring online methods, then to play your space marines you will need the compendium book as that has all the datasheets, yes. Think of the compendium add the index books of 8th edition. It contains all of the datasheets and wargear and tactics for 18 factions, but it's pretty basic. Then think of the teams released in the big boxes and the white dwarf rules as the real codexes that have the full rules and the crusade narrative stuff etc.

I deliberately wasn't talking about the big boxes because imo the point of having a 1 box list is to keep costs down. If you don't care about the cost, you probably don't care about the number of boxes, is my thinking!

A good suggestion! But I didn't talk about start collectings or combat patrols in this just because I feel the point of a 1 box team is to keep costs down. If you don't care about the financial side then you probably don't care too much about buying more than one box, I'd assume!
