Kill Team 2021: The Tomb Worlds are back, just like they said they would be!

How are the Tomb Worlds faring in the new edition of Kill Team? I dive beneath the worlds crust and shake their sarcophagus' to check out what the Compendium Necron fire teams have to offer. I played a Tactical Marines squad yesterday (YIHAA for 6 marines in 1 team!) with 2 grav-guns ( one actual grav-gun on the Gunner and a grav-pistol on the sergeant (+PowerFist) ), a Missile Launcher on the Heavy gunner and 3 regular boltgun Space Marines, the grav-guns are made for deleting elite-units ( if the enemy unit has a 3+ save or better, 4+'s to hit count as critical hits ) and having 6 marines with marine-wounds, bolter discipline and 6" move is quite flexible for an elite team itself :-D So far they seem to be the most versatile Marine-KillTeam I've found :-D

I have played a few games with tactical squads and completely agree! Definitely the most versatile and fun of the marine teams (Death Watch are great too, but one less model) but I am yet to use Grav, I just built a marine gunner and a sarge so can hopefully test it out soon. Thanks for the tip!

Why do you think that the Grav-Gun is better than plasma gun? Even on elites: Grav gun 4 3+ 4/5 Ap1 Lethal 4+ ; Plasma Gun (standard) 4 3+ 5/6 Ap1

One thing to keep in mind with the tomb world kill team is that if you use implacable march, you can't do pick up or mission actions. If you use it you won't be able to do key mission actions, but if you don't you're too slow to actually reach the objective in the first place. That's the main drawback I've found with them, it's a very difficult balance to strike. I also hope their white dwarf team allows you to mix all the different options, and adds some better equipment, I feel like 5 starfire cores is an auto take at the moment.

Good point, it’s one of those easy to miss omissions from the “can do” list! Thanks for catching that. Another reason the lack of mobility really hurts them on objective heavy games. And you are 100% correct, anything but starfire cores seems like you are doing the team a disservice, after seeing the new GSC WD team I have high hopes for these guys for their own bespoke team!

against anything with less armor deathmarks' higher BS is amazing. 4 shots hitting on 2s, with AP1 deleting one of their defense dice is devastating against units with 5+ or 6+ armor. it's almost always 12-16 damage. against any squishier army like tau, deathmarks eliminate one model off the board pretty much every turn if they have LOS.

Oh they still have a place that’s for sure! I just wish they had the silent special rule or a way to gain it (even for a CP) or even a way to help them get sneaking targets. Hopefully when they get their upgraded team we will see something to boost them a bit!

Great video. I've got two (semi-) contrary opinions. 1 - Security is my go-to Tac Ops deck for Tomb Worlds. You are far more likely to effectively shrink the board by focusing your Tac Ops flash-points near the center of the board, a key piece of terrain, and/or your own deployment zone. Seek and Destroy will give you options where your opponent can grief you by picking off your Marksman, hiding their Leader, etc. I think security plays to your strengths more in general. 2 - What pairs best with Immortals? MOAR IMMORTALS No, seriously though - 8 Immortals is horrifying. They all carry around Krak Grenade launchers and hit in melee like Primary marines (4 attacks, on 3+, 3/4 DMG). They have Power Armor. They Regenerate. There's no _good_ way to approach Immortals - just less bad options. With that melee profile they definitely project a solid Charge threat too. In terms of Zoning the Flayed Ones only have 1 more attack and have 1 less Wound, so I think Immortals stack up. It is kind of funny - people tend to fall into 40K thinking are shove Warriors forward to screen Immortals in the back, but I honestly think Immortals are your best front-line troops in Tomb Worlds - straight up.

I always run 2 groups of Gauss Immortals too. I went 3-0 this past weekend in a tournament with them. All 3 games I tabled my opponents. Disagree on the Tac Ops selection, I find I do better with Seek and Destroy.

Love the immortals. I've tried both flavours, tesla and Gauss and your thoughts on tesla is pretty much my experience with it. Splash goes off maybe once a game and even with the tactical ploy it doesn't end up doing a lot of damage, plus you have to get a crit so its hard to plan for, whereas the reliable AP1 on the Gauss just does work - especially if you are starfire coring them. Great video man - nice takes on the faction.

Thanks mate! I love the sound of Tesla, it sounds great on paper, but so many of those area of effect rules people are switch onto now (like flamers) so people remember to spread out! Maybe a fix for the future?!! Appreciate the support!

I think Necrons could get the Implecable march as a faction ability. All other bespoke/artisnal teams got an ability that is worth at least 1CP. So that could be the one for necrons.

Totally agree! would change the way you can run them and open up those CP to be spent on more fun stuff elsewhere!

I have death guard painted, working on death watch, and warp coven (ksons) already has me eyeing my 3rd team. I'm super intrigued by what the next box set will be, im hoping we get Eldar models new to kill team. The new guardian models bode well, but I'm hoping it's not just a box of guardians. (As cool as the new models look)

Thats a fun mix of teams, I am really keen to give the Thousand Sons a go, those sorcerers seem like a lot of fun and Tzangors have me very curious, a purchase for another day!! I'm with you for the next box, be great if its Eldar in the next box, I'm really keen on some Eldar terrain. If it was Corsairs v Drukhari (pirates vs pirates) I would be most pleased! 😁
