Lazy_boii504 Passion, that’s one way to put it, lol... Most of these kats that comment under these clips have never been apart of successful band programs as these two. Both bands have room for improvement, of course. I enjoyed my time in the Boom when SU was on the schedule. It meant that we were finally going to get a band across from us that could fight back and would fight back. I’m not a trash talker unless you open your mouth and are truly from a garbage program that has no business even leaving the band room...🤦🏾‍♂️ As I stated before, I respect both programs and have my negative thoughts about them that I only state to those who can help make change. I’m glad to see that after all of these years that these two programs are still the scream of the crop and only being compared to themselves and previous years... Other SWAC schools need to figure out how to elevate their programs. It would be refreshing to see the fight come from an underdog.

This was a nice battle. To ME it was neck and neck. Both of these schools are rich in music tradition amd excellence. I will not call a winner as it could lean either way for any particular reason or reasons. With the dying of music in some high and middle schools around the countey, maybe everyone should come together to help make sure bands of rich heritage can continue. Well as a none SWAC band member, I am truly imoressed by both bands. I've never been on either schools bandwagon, but that Batman SU played was nice. My only gripe with it was I wished the trumpets didnt try to scream their part. But even with that, still like it. It was out the box and very unexpected. As for JSU great job as well, but my only gripe was how fast they played Stand. Whew that was drilling tempo. But never the less great job both programs!

Mister E yeah i agree both are great band programs. The best in the SWAC imo. Just started listening to JSU the last decade but been listening to SU since i was a little kid. SU has always played loud and has a massive amount of trumpets and always give them the lead in all their songs. JSU could use more trumpets but I love their tuba's they are the best to me. The ppl in the comment section can be quite entertaining and embarrassing at the same time. The fans really take this thing seriously and will argue and debate for days. It's crazy!

Okay 25 or to 4 vs. the theme song from Batman....a pretty even split. 2nd round another tie with a slight edge to Southern. 3rd round ballads...pretty even as well but Southern's arrangement of their ballad was harder to pull off. 4th round ehh. 5th round...Even! So I'm unbias as they come since I marched in the Pac-12 but love all HBCUs, but I've been watching videos of JSU seems like for years now. And they really brought it to Southern....But once again as the battle went on, it seemed like Southern got cleaner and stronger in sound and JSU was running out of gas. JSU won the 5th based off book, arrangements, and balance. SU did well with Batman, though. I will say these are the best two bands in the land. I saw a 5th quarter battle between Bethune and NC A&T last week and that was like watching a high school compared to this.

JSU still don’t have a trumpet sections. They rely on they mellos to Carry the upper brass. They LB swallow the whole band. No balance at all

This was awesome. There is no question both bands brought their A game. In terms of balanced sounds, musicianship, song selections coupled with power Southern was the better band.
