Everyone has continued to improve since pre-season. I'm feeling proud of everyone who shows up and overjoyed as folks choose to bring their whole self to the contest. Grambling has an incredible opportunity to encourage its strongest players to uplift those who do not normally sit or practice nearby. Future performances can be super solid with some of the patchiness ironed out. Full participation in every area of the music makes numbers virtually irrelevant. Jackson State implemented some instrumentation changes. As a previous commentator mentioned, it is noticeable. The Horns are a more dominant voice. This adds an anchor to the middle of the music, allowing for more resonant projection across the field. The trombone section continues to demonstrate a voice that is differentiated from the euphonium section. This is a one-up to the arrangers and to the section for demonstrating week-over-week exceptionality. In a rare occurrence, the ensemble's balance relative to the lower registers is tipping. You know, I'm going to sit and think about how to describe some of the other stuff I witnessed. Dragonite appears to have naturally acquired Hyper Beam and other ordinary otherworldly stuff went down too. I look forward to viewing another angle. The season is early for everyone, keep growing! 'Preciate ya Killa Kev.

You are just use to dawg team being prominent in all of JSU’s arrangements and that’s not the case this season for the all the arrangements, this year they are arranging for the trumpets to be dominate and for a more balance sound. But hey seem like both SU & Grambling are imitating dawg team. So hey. 👋🏾 however one tuba did mess up in the rap tune during the 5th round. Also in Round 3 the percussion didn’t have a tempo issue.

@@BandHeadBoomthose things were true about JSU’s trumpet section. No matter how big they were nearly nonexistent in arrangements and the mellophones & low brass covered them up. Now trumpets the largest and the strongest section in the band which is great but what about the rest of the band?? Lol. They haven’t quite caught up so that’s why if you listen with an unbiased ear you can hear too much of them. Jsu trumpets can’t win all their battles alone, they def need to tone it down for a more cohesive and well rounded sound.

As already noted by several others, JSU is a completely balanced machine! Sectional parts, finesse and power, and just the RIGHT amount of 'over the top'!! That being said, Gram sounds MUCH better than in years before! Their baritone section is outstanding.......so much that they over take the entire band.... It's no secret that most lower-brass musicians have played some, if not ALL of those L/B instruments in their past. GSU, take 5 of the 27 bass horn players and 3 of those 19 baritone players who can play trombone, and CONVERT 'em! Soundwise, they won't be missed, and they'll actually give your Bone section a chance to bring balance to the L/B sound as whole, bc the B'tones are killing EVERYTHING. You'll sound completely different once you do.

Jackson has an outstanding sound! Arguably the best sound in HBCU, should’ve played some of these tunes at boombox….however, I think they’re kinda getting carried away with having the trumpets over screaming in recent arrangements! Dawg team kinda fell off from last year… I heard that mess up at 19:48 😓…. GSU was doing good until 11:32 in the battle… lol 🤷🏾‍♂️ They definitely got thrown off their game at that point lol and playing a gospel tune is like waving the 🏳️ into the battle! 😂
