@darthruneis Ragnaros, while there's no major disadvantage to bring melee (before meteors) they do require more healing than ranged because of the 30k + knockback melee gets every so often. I raid 10man and i honestly don't see a single fight on normal or heroic that a melee dps can't be replaced with a ranged without any dps loss except for Alysrazor on interrupts.

@MrGlennJohnsen I wasn't referring to the top at all. It's more efficient to have the melee on the Drones/Spinners, and most melee can taunt spinners down, which adds utility in their favor (yes, shamans/hunters can too, but still). Dunno about heroic, but hell, I've killed Beth on normal with only a tank and heals up top on 25.

@MrGlennJohnsen Actually, there is a spot just behind the claws of Domo's Scorpion form where you are considered for the Cleave, but not blocked/parried.

@tidus93 You need 7/7 to enable heroic modes. If you mean for normal, yes. This is one of the easier normal modes.

@darthruneis Shannox, Ranged can do exactly what melee can, burn boss, thus making them equal. If melee gets chased by rageface they sometimes have to run/kite to reset stacks (heroic) and thus going out of melee range = 100% dps loss where as ranged faster gets back into dps. Also since melee can't break facerage reliable bringing more ranged = higher reability to actually break it fast.

@MrGlennJohnsen Well, if we're arguing for pure DPS loss, it is a DPS loss for ranged to be switching back and forth between dogs and Shannox, Melee bring knockbacks/stuns for Ragnaros (and don't have to avoid most Sulfuras Smashes, so they get full DPS uptime when the ranged are moving for it), but yes, you're probably correct in that every fight *could* (even alysrazor - go go ele sham spam) be done full ranged. Melee still bring debuffs/buffs that are beneficial.

@MrGlennJohnsen Yes, but having some melee means you can't assign all of your ranged to the dogs, and will always have some damage on the boss even if for some reason you have to call all of your ranged to the dogs. Yeah, I suppose shannox isn't the greatest example, but they do have uses and are entirely viable for every fight in firelands, and they bring buffs.

@darthruneis Beth'tilac, a ranged can just as easily or even easier dps on beth'tilac p1 because of meteors on the web sometimes means melee can't stand in melee range while ranged allways have range. On heroic there's a "baneling" type add that fixates on a member and blows up if it reaches it = kiting, which is 100% dps loss for melee.

@MrGlennJohnsen Shannox - so you can split ranged dps between the dogs, maybe that changes on heroic, but you still need people smacking Rageface, who is almost impossible to be reliable hit by melee, this leaves melee to burn down the boss. Beth'tilac - so your ranged can focus on the spiderlings Alysrazor - interrupts, as stated Rhyolith - leg movement Baleroc 25 - one of the crystal spawns Domo - Once again, burning boss while ranged deal with most of the mechanics Rag - nothing specific

@pureapples123 Both of them can be trapped, but it's best to trap rageface because he cant face rage while trapped and that way both dogs will drop their buff.

@darthruneis Yes it's a dps loss but in our heroic 10man kill of shannox we had a destro lock and arcane mage on breaking facerage (macro bound spells) and if one of those got faceraged then the preassure was up for the other to crit or deal damage above 30k. we had 3 melee dps and since they couldn't help out breaking facerage we eneded up replacing a melee with a 10ilvl lower geared moonkin. Ranged can do the same dps as melee on shannox and assist on breaking the facerage and melee cant do it

@darthruneis There is still nothing melee can do that ranged can't do, (except for interrupts, of course). You can beat Shannox, Rhyolith, Baleroc, with full ranged, yet if you have full melee, you will struggle and may not even be able to beat bosses like Rhyolith.

@darthruneis Baleroc besides ranged "have" to stand in a group to controll where the crystal spawns there's no disadvantage to only bring ranged, Baleroc though is fair for both ranged and melee dps. Domo, while cat phase can be a "movement issue" for ranged it's not even close to the issue melee has in scorpion phase. being blocked (30% damage reduction) and having alot of parry is terrible for dps.

I play an assassination rogue and to be honest i feel that blizz is making us melee almost not wanted anymore. unless raid mechanics require the presence of melee, ranged can pretty much do almost everything we do sometimes even better.

just watched the ensidia video on H shannox, and they kill off riplimb everytime he comes up, does the boss still stack jagged tear if there is no dog? anyone confirm or deny this? and if so how do ensidia manage to clear their stacks if the dog was dead?
