Killdeer Mama bird protecting her eggs.

These sweet little birds are so self-sacrificing. If you get near their nest, they try to distract you by appearing wounded to lure danger away from the nest. Both the mother and the father birds did this. This video catches just the mother in her protective mode. So cute!
UPDATE: No bird or egg was harmed in the filming of this video. The baby birds hatched and all survived - and the parent birds survived as well. And they lived happily ever after. (In spite of the evil Terry!) :)

Cause most of them nest in Rocky areas, as their nest are camaflouged in gravel. Most predators aren't able to see color, so it helps. Compared to where a bird has her eggs in a tree, and A Crow, BlueJay, or Raven might eat the eggs.

The bird is literally actively protecting them, plus Killdeer eggs are much more valuable because they take longer to hatch, I don't think she's leaving them anytime soon

Well, the birds were already here, before humans moved in the area. They just never left and trying to survive the best they can. Killdeer make their nests in rocks or gravel.
