Thank you for sharing, i lived in Killeen 30 plus years ago when my dad was in the Army. I wouldnt mind moving back there with my family now, wife and daughter. Living in Austin now and hoping to make the move in 2025, have a great day.

Lots of people are moving from Austin to the Killeen area for the affordability and the potential growth in the future. I’m moving someone right now who is selling their home in North Austin to buy a home in Killeen

I moved my family out of Killeen after our once-quiet neighborhood (off Westcliff) became increasingly violent. The gas station right up the road got robbed repeatedly, and the final straw was when my house got peppered with rounds from a drive-by a street over. No thanks. I moved to Temple. Yes the cost of the house was more, but when all other factors are taken into consideration (water, insurance, trash pickup) it ended up being cheaper per month than a similarly sized home in Killeen.

I moved to killeen, in 2000. My grandma bought a house in killeen in 1984. And when we moved here my grandparents never let us go to temple lol

I'm a teacher in killeen and my husband and I are about buy our first house here. We have looked at a lot of houses. Most of kileen feels very safe and is nice. It can get loud but that comes down to the specific neighbors. We currently live in an apartment complex and it's pretty nice here. We've lived her almost a year but I'm excited to own property in one of the newly built neighborhoods! The one thing I will say is aside from Saegert, the schools are not good. Trust me, I do my best for my students but it's just the fact that teaching is a revolving door career. Students can have more than one teacher in one school year. The lack of consistency and the fact that the district piles on more things for teachers to do without ever removing anything stresses us teachers out. If teachers stay in one place, the school will be great, but since it's so stressful and admin often move teachers around each year, that's impossible. One of the agreements between my husband and I is that if we do live in killeen, I would like to homeschooling my kids (I obviously have the teaching skills). Also temple and killeen have similar crime numbers, but considering that killeen is so much more populated, its actually more safe in a way. A lot of people look down on killeen. But with more nice suburbs being developed, I think the reputation will change :)

You are very fair with your reviews of both Temple and Killeen. Killeen has a better club scene and nightlife. It also has a more diverse food scene. Temple is growing quickly and more retail space is opening each day. The Temple Mall is not what it was, but it still has Dillards. Driving is easier in Temple than in Killeen. A very good description of both cities. IH 35 does make traveling to Austin or Waco a short trip. Thank you for being positive in your explanations and opinions. McLane's national headquarters, Fikes/CEFCO national headquarters, and other nationally known companies like Wilsonart and Carpenter give Temple more diverse employment. Killeen, with Ft Hood/Ft Cavazos, is geared more toward military support-related employment. Killen has higher education options available in Central Texas College, Texas A and M Central Texas. Temple has Temple College, Texas A and M Medical, and Baylor Medical. Besides Baylor Scott and White, Temple has a Large VA hospital. There are several school districts that where students can attend depending on where a residence is in the City Limits of Temple. Of course, there is Temple ISD, but there are also Belton ISD, Little River /Academy ISD, and Troy ISD. Belton ISD has one high school, Lake Belton High School, two middle schools, and 6 elementary schools. So a family should be able to find a house in a school district that they like.

We have several properties in Killeen an also several in temple. We plan on buying two to three more this year but trying to find out what city to buy. What you think .

Hmmm .. both are great I think. Depends on the price point. Temple is a bit more pricey but properties are selling a lot slower so there are deals to be found. Rent is higher there. Killeen has lower prices but rent is lower too. Depends on the individual deal. As you know both are great and have huge long term upside.
