Sasuke used Orochimaru for 3 years of training then used the same Curse Mark that was supposed to enslave him so his body and power could be stolen, to instead enslave Orochimaru to steal his power. Then formed a team with his subordinates & captives. Orochimaru was forced to rely on an option that may never even be available. That's a fail for Orochimaru. Deidara's murder attempt was thwarted with Sasuke obtaining the intel he wanted shortly later. DEADara was just one option. Learning the truth about Itachi led to him knowing who the mastermind was & killing him. Far better than living a lie as Danzo walked free. & he failed to catch Bee but from the battle he realized his Mangekyo was enough to destroy Konoha. That he didn't need Biju power (chapter 417, pages 5-6).
