Deidara's murder attempt was thwarted with Sasuke obtaining the intel he wanted shortly later. DEADara was just one option. Learning the truth about Itachi led to him knowing who the mastermind was & killing him. Far better than living a lie as Danzo walked free. & he failed to catch Bee but from the battle he realized his Mangekyo was enough to destroy Konoha. That he didn't need Biju power (chapter 417, pages 5-6).
