Fun fact about Playful Cloud: it's originally Toji's weapon, which is why he's so nasty with it. Geto got it from Toji's Inventory curse, and Gojo gave it to Maki after Geto died (but she has a bit of trauma about using it because of what Geto did to her). Also, it's the only special grade cursed tool that doesn't have a cursed technique engraved in it. Its strength is proportional to the strength of the user.

It's said that Toji is working off of instinct - the instinct to destroy the strongest curse energy vessel (whether that'd be a user or a spirit) and after he mercs that special grade curse, the one he goes after is his own son! He does this before Jogo. So basically, Megumi has the confirmed potential to be one of the strongest characters in the show! This is even bolstered by his technique being able to go toe to toe with Sakuna. Honestly, I'm super pumped to see where the story and characters go.

The part that isn't mentioned is the gamble he made on his son's behalf. If nothing happens, yes Megumi gets sent to live with his family, but since Megumi has the cursed energy that he was never born with, he wouldn't be treated like Toji- However there was one event which would set his son for life if it happened. If Satoru Gojo dies, his son would become that clan's new leader. Making him rich and powerful for life. And then on top of that in his dying moments he literally had the only man stronger than him become his son's guardian and teacher. Toji effectively pulled all of the strings from beyond the grave to give his son the best odds possible, and never even wanted any acknowledgement for it. That ain't a father going to get milk, that's a father committing life insurance fraud to feed his children.
