I'm fairly new to LOTR LCG, a game I love but was getting more and more frustrated at constantly losing (currently 15 straight loses in 'Standard Play' mode although I have a 99% win rate in 'Easy Mode') for just the Level 1 game. After contacting you on facebook you directed me here, and it's given me new hope of actually beating, what is supposedly, the easiest game out of the whole LOTR LCG collection. I'm going to have a go at your 'KILLER DECK' (I know it'll take a couple of goes to get the hang of it), so fingers crossed for my first win, so I can then move onto the next quest, 'Journey Down The Anduin'. Question, you mention an action window reference in the rules, something where during a "green" action window you can perform actions etc etc..but I dl'd the rulebook and the learn to play doc from FFG's site and do not see a color coded action window chart? Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the video. I knew heard of LCGS but I got into LCGS because of Marvel Champions last year. I just bought Lord of the Rings core set recently had a great time and just bought the Shadows of Mirkwood Cycle. I'm having a blast right now and looking forward to the campaign cycle. @@edward.miranda easy mistake to make, the quest says find a spider, so you have to do that no matter what. Since the win condition is killing OSpawn, finding her makes sense if she is not in play already. Thanks for watching and Happy Questing.

With the new core set coming out with a playset of each core card, what additions can we make to round this deck out? I played this game a bunch with my partner over tabletop simulator a year ago, looking forward to getting the new core set in paper soon!

I think it is still okay to not have 50 cards in a deck that just uses the new core. I would bump H. Riversong and Unexpected Courage and Sneak Attack, and A test of will to 3 copies each.

Hi: question: regarding "Forced Effect" in this case the Forest Spider, if I haven't killed the Forest Spider does the Forced effect engage every round? I only have one damage token on the Forest Spider at the moment going into round 2 combat. Thank you in advance. (The constant abilities I'm good with as I my active location is "Enchanted Stream" I cannot draw cards as long as it's my active location) I'm just not sure about the Forced effect after reading the rules.

Great question, the forced effect is triggered by the enemy engaging you. So, it only triggers the round it moves from the staging area to your area. If the ability said: Forced: When Forest Spider attacks..... Then it would trigger each round.

This is the same deck I built for myself six years ago, except my deck uses two less cards. Got me through the base game and all of the first cycle with it. Changes had to be made for Moria. Took me 12 tries to get past the third core mission, but it can do it.

Hi and thank you for the video: Question. I think I understand - I'll ask anyway. I may place Ally cards only with matching spheres of influence (Gard of the Citadel Ally will only go with a Hero with THAT sphere of influence. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) I see you placed Unexpected Courage (SPIRIT attachment) with Beravor Lore 'Sphere of influence'. this you may do correct - I see yes but I thought I would ask. Thank you in advance. Greg

Thank you for commenting and watching. You need to pay for a sphere card using resources from a hero(s) that has that sphere. So, 2 resources from Aragorn to buy a Guard, 2 from Eowyn for U.Courage. allies are put in your play area, attachments can go on any eligible hero. U Courage can go on any hero, no matter which hero paid for it.

Just to check a rule question: is that correct that when you sent Faramir in, you won't be able to commit him to the quest as the commit step has passed already ?

That is correct, you cannot commit characters after the staging step. But faramir can take an action to boost everybody else's willpower by exhausting.

I should add, there are cards that we get in future packs that let you commit characters after the staging step, but we do not have any of those cards yet.

OK. I've just got the game and yes I have struggled a lot with the rulebook and terminology and made numerous mistakes. For instance this video has clarified the rules about enemy engagement at end of round. I had mistaken player for character so kept a poor bozo engaged to be killed in following round. So thanks for that. That should give ROFL whatever (prior commenter) to joyfully seethe about yet another incompetent newbie. But riddle me this. Not in front of me but I'm pretty sure the rulebook clearly states a deck size must be 50+ cards. How come your deck is thinner ? Doesn't that make it easier ?

The Rulebook says a tournament size deck is at least 50 cards. Nobody really knows what a tournament is and the community has come to a agreement that if you only own the core, having less than 50 cards is OK. especially when the original core didn’t even have three copies of every card. Just to make sure you understand engagement, you engage enemies during the engagement phase. If that enemy is not killed in the combat phase it sticks around with you and will attack you next round.

It's a very complicated game, and not everybody who picks up this game is a hardcore gamer some of them are just fans of Lord of the rings and this might be the first non-linear type game they pick up.

@@COTRPodcast I agree, I'm new to this game, and find some of the directions confusing, and the rule book has missed out a couple of things too, for instance, how to use the 'X' cards, it's obvious when someone tells you that you set the value of 'X', but for a total newbie there's nothing to suggest that. Also on Denethor's card, it says 'exhaust to look at the top encounter' as an action, but the rules don't tell you you can't use this action AND quest with him, it's either one or the other.
