Good video, nice explanation.. the best grip for defense was backhand because when use forehand you need to move a lot. But some players like Gideon prefer to use forehand when defense. Finally always remember the racket always in front of your body.

I have a question for doing split step do you do the step before the opponent hits the shuttle or after?
@Bgbadminton
@Bgbadminton 4 жыл бұрын
Never really consciously thought about it in this level. The way i thought about it when i was first learning it was that I want to sync my split step with my opponent hitting the shuttle for maximum speed and eventually it became second nature, and because of this, it varies a little according to my opponents and the type of shots they play (think of players that loves to do double action shots). So focus on maximize speed and syncing with your opponent's contact point rather than the exact timing, should serve you much better this way
@chitung2277
@chitung2277 4 жыл бұрын
I reckon practise your reaction first and then add split step then it becomes more natural. When I see shuttle leave opponent racquet I move in that direction immediately. You naturally will split in that direction after practising. It eventually become more intuitive. That's what Gerald means when he says he doesn't think about it. He just does it with muscle memory.

Hello there experts! Can you help me find an alternative racket to Yonex AT700? Here's the thing, I tried my friend's AT700 and I liked it very much but I can't find it anywhere. Maybe you guys can suggest rackets that feels the same as the AT700. Thank youu

Thanks for the video. Its really informative. If possible, please make video on how to defend the fake smash in double. When i lift the shuttle and expecting that my opponent shall hit the shuttle hard but he jumps and just slice the shuttle which landed near the net. I am always unable to move forward to lift the shuttle again. I know its the problem with my footwork but i don't know how to cope with this situation.
@Bgbadminton
@Bgbadminton 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, if i may, i'm sure you're fully aware of the exact problem of your footwork. Maybe if you can explain in more detail which part of your footwork is the problem, i'd understand your level of diagnosis :) Apart from footwork(which has quite a lot of aspects btw), it could also be 1) an issue with how you decide, (like you are unable to 'see' through the trick). Solution - practice with this player and experience this trickshot more often, with time this becomes easier to 'see'. Hence why playing with a lot of different players is very good for improving judgement. Try to recognize patterns and sequences that your friend tends to do before the trickshot. Note it's impossible to be 'un-trickable' but with experience and analysis, you can minimize this. 2) Change of direction (COD) speed solution - directional footwork drills. The most relevant would be practicing the exact footwork required to take the slice shot. e.g two front corners, 10 reps x 3 sets at your max speed, rest 1:7 or longer 3) Slow acceleration - though probably the smallest contributing factor, it could be that you can't accelerate fast enough to get to the shuttle. solution - acceleration drills, short sprints, plyos (you can google those drills to practice) Solution 1 requires u to be able to work with the player, solution 2 and 3 are what you can and should practice A LOT on your own and it should fix your problem ;) Tried to be concise, hope this is helpful! Good luck and keep practicing!

@@Bgbadminton Thanks a ton for your detailed reply. There are many things about which i was ignorant that you taught me. I am really thankful to you from the bottom of my heart. I was in view that i am facing problem to go ahead with my bend knee ( when i am ready for smash). The answer is acceleration and i learnt that its not the only problem. I have to read the mind of my opponent too whether he is playing a net shot or going to smash. If i am wrong or i missed something, please guide me. I would like to say Thanks again for your guidance.

Er.. No.. Drive shot is most risk because if you dont do it right exactly either the person at front or back can attack or kill it. You have about an inch wrong and shuttle will be resmashed but alot closer and faster. Lift is always the easiest and safest to neutralise an attack. Even if you lift few inches short it's not too bad if it's high enough.
