I hear you! It does kinda lead to paralisis by analisis, but I'd rather have Gamepass, Steam or itchio over buying one full game every 2-3 months like in the 00s or 90s. This year I've found a lot of jewels I wouldn't have played without those platforms and services.

I really enjoyed Riddled Corpses, very satisfying twin stick. Really wish there were more twin-stick shooters with any kind of co-op. Killer Frequency sounds right up my alley. I'll need to put that on the list.

"If on a winter's night four travelers" is really good, barring a couple silly puzzles designed to stretch the playtime a bit. Very much recommended to give it a go.

I played Slay the Princess too! I'm not generally a visual novel person but I really enjoyed that one. It wasn't what I thought it was going to be.

I go through stages with video games , don’t play anything for months then suddenly it’s all in for a few months , but lately started playing adventure books and you use dice , never knew these things existed and I’m 54. No word of a lie I’m enjoying them . Started playing a book called fable lands ( book one ) enjoying that .

The Last Express sounds like my jam. I'm a total sucker for anything set in the years immediately before and after World War I. Also, Killer Frequency makes me think of the movie Pontypool.

I enjoyed Turnip Boy, too; great goofy title that's worth the few hours it takes. Didn't play much in October, other than a revisit of SaGa Frontier and the Costume Quest games at the very end, and honestly, that's about the perfect October for me. After revisiting it, I think SaGa Frontier might be my all-time favorite RPG; it's difficult to get into, but it's got such a great world and characters.

I just finished a playthrough of the Blackwell series and I always crave point and clicks this time of year. They're sort of my cozy warm autumn blanket.

I want to play it through again just to see how it changes with a different background and different choices. Also it takes place in the Blackwell-verse. I didn't even know that going in.

Happy Belated Birthday, Pam! October for me has been spooky game month for the past few years. Even though I am kinda a wuss about horror games, I find that I look forward to it more and more each year. This October I played through The Callisto Protocol which I really enjoyed (even though a lot of people seem to hate on it). Then I played Limbo for a nice shorter game. Next was Resident Evil 2 Remake which is the first RE game that I have ever fully committed to and finished, and I liked it quite a bit. And finally ended with Alan Wake 2 (absolutely loved, despite it's occasional flaws). Great month for games.

whenever a new choices-matter-y visual novel drops, i groan and wonder what new gimmick they'll use to explain the time loops, but games like Slay the Princess prove it's not about the originality, it's about the execution. Excellent writing and voice acting, phenomenal game.

I remember Last Express and playing it way back when it came out. I though there was something wrong with the computer at first the way the animation worked. Nope, it's an artistic choice.

Thanks for covering Slay the Princess, I just recently saw a tweet about it and it looked great, but I didn't understand what kind of game it was. I have never played an actual visual novel but I have seen some let's plays, and this sounds much better than those, so I'll give it a try. I played Star Ocean The Divine Force and it was fine, it achieved its goal of being a normal action RPG where you kill god. A trope I learned to hate many years ago, but which, after watching Moon Channel's video about why in Japanese games we always kill god, I learned to appreciate. Hint: it's real world politics, it means killing not an actual god but rather the president or the CEO or the cop or the teacher o whoever authority figure that thinks he's better than you and he has the right to rule over everyone. Still, just an average game, good looking for a while, but bland after a few hours, when you see in every biome there are the same enemies over and over. I'm also playing Franzen, a free RPG (on Steam), which as a unique aesthetic and soundtrack, and a weird setting and story. The synopsis says it's a short game. After six hours, I feel I'm close to the end, but who knows. If simple mechanics (two button schema, accept/cancel) and low-fi pixel art are fine for you, I'd recommend it. See you next time, Pam!

Hi Pam. I sadly didn't finish as many games as I wanted to in October kind of fell off it is what it is. I did beat one called wire lips it was fine but short. I also jumped back on Dead by daylight because they recently released a naughty bear skin and I liked that game back in the day. There's one I'm curious about recently came to PlayStation it's called "the bed we made" though the graphics don't look super great I like that it's kind of channeling a old school pulp book kind of murder mystery vibe I'll have to let you know once I play some if it's any good. Oh and I totally forgot I'm replaying ghost trick phantom detective it was nice to jump back into that one

Killer Frequency seems especially cool to me. Published by Team 17 who I remember from my Amiga days and they're STILL going strong. Good for them.

Weirdly I've been bouncing off sp games recently too!! I'm not sure why. I thought for sure I'd get hooked into AC6, Remnant 2, and TotK, all of which I tried this fall and all of which I bounced right off of. 🤷 Who knows why. At least I'm enjoying Valfaris on my switch rn 😊

I just beat Castlevania Legends on the game boy NSO app. Some parts were bullshitty (the zombie pits and the bats) but I liked it way more than I expected too. I might replay it soon!

recently finished a game called "grotto". it's a ...weird sort of interactive fiction thing about language and communication. mechanically it's a little basic and that did detract a bit in the latter part of the game, but it was such an interesting experience. it's not super long (6 hours for me to finish), and has a demo on steam. got round to playing "call of cthulhu" at last, which for all it's flaws i enjoyed. also 100%-ed "lies of P" - which was good, but i don't agree with the general opinion that it's the best non-fromsoftware soulslike.

Killer Frequency is pretty interesting but one thing you really have to just ignore for the sake of the game is that there would be no way for most of the people in the game to talk to you without a mobile phone, which was pretty uncommon back in the 80s.
