Killer Instinct is one of the greatest fighting game series of all time. I remember all the arcades of the 1990s, everyone was playing Killer instinct. There was such a long line to play the game. People had their coins line up in order along the machine. Every day when it was lunchtime, everybody went to a local game rental place that had Killer Instinct.

The kids of today need to understand what put Killer Instinct on a whole different level from other games at the time. Kids now will never know what it was like to walk into an arcade and hear this game going at full volume with incredible sound and bass, and be blown away by not only how the game looked but how the game played with crazy combos. It was the first of its kind. It was the birth of combo fighting in fighting games afterwards. Not as crazy as this, but their own way of combos you see in video games today. The music of KI was simply amazing. The graphics of KI blew everyone away compared to the other games of the time, only because of the brilliant way of making the characters -- 3D characters turned into 2D sprites lol. The crisp sharp look of the "3D CGI characters turned 2D" was nothing like any other game at the time. During this time they had 3D fighting games like Virtua Fighter that had such jagged edges and slow movements because they were true 3D. But with Rare's Killer Instinct "faking" 3D, it took the graphical look of this fighting game to a whole new level at the time. It set itself apart from every other fighting game on the market, and set a new precedent of what to expect from fighting games! It was so amazing! PS -- Sabrewulf was my main =)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and life stories about this game. Currently, I am 18 and I respect old games because of charm and effort that was put there. This one is gem of fighting game industry and will forever remain unforgettable in the eyes of majority. Been thinking lately of working as programmer, however I am not very keen in computer science, I hope someday someone will create a game everyone will enjoy that sticks out with the KI

I remember playing this every day at a caravan site called warren farm, Somerset. Every summer when my mum and dad were at the caravan for the evening I would take my pocket money and run across 3 fields just to get to the kids playhouse. This was one of the only arcade games in there and you’d be lucky to get on it, we used to do a winner stays on and the older kids who played it more would always win, 25/26 years on and the music, sound effects and graphics still seem exactly as I remember! I can feel my heart pounding with excitement while watching this video and all the nostalgia comes flying back. Outside of MK 1 and 2 (when they were new) no other machine had more HYPE than Killer Instinct. That feeling when you finally got your turn and had a huge audience, kids today really missed out on arcades.
@isaiahii6982 Жыл бұрын
I remember going to the arcade in the 90s and this one guy was unbeatable in this game. Crowds would gather around to watch him play and lines of people would challenge him, but no one could ever beat him. He would pull the most insane combo's.

I remember a guy like that. He would do air ultras that blew my mind but would never tell me how to do it.

I remember when I first saw this in Arcades when I was 10. I was so mesmerized with the graphics and couldn't wait for a console port. While the SNES version didn't stack up graphically, they still managed to accurately port the addictive gameplay.

The intro shows that Nintendo let this wonderful franchise slip through their fingers. Don't get me wrong, Microsoft and Iron Galaxy did a wonderful job on the new one, but Nintendo could have another good exclusive if only they have bought out Rare. -_-
@yellowlemonPenguin8 жыл бұрын
Letting Microsoft buy rare without a fight was a mistake. This and banjo could have been great if they made sure that none of the new staff ruined them.
@fucker6616 жыл бұрын
It's now Microsofts fault that they let great franchises go to waste.

Fuck exclusives. They are are anti-consumer. At least MS is bringing all games to PC (some even on Steam). The less exclusives, the better for us.

Ahh, Saberwolf. My personal favorite character in Killer Instinct. Simplistic commands that require almost no real indepth training to master. Saberwolf was the only character I could use and pull off "Godlike" combos. When I played against my friend we did something that was never mentioned. There are combos and combo breakers, and my friend and I discovered one hidden aspect. Counter breakers. Which occurs when u combo break a combo breaker. When performed, u can continue your combo as if the combo breaker never happened, AND future combo breakers can not be preformed for rest of that combo.
