Most people know Mick Gordon for his work on Doom but his Killer Instinct music is great too, very underrated. His work on the Wolfenstein games is also definitely worth checking out.

Oh yes, I agree completely. It hits you like a freight train from the moment the drums kick in along with the guitar, bass and especially that flute. The authentic Nes Perce chanting on top of it all led by Anthony Toyaaxnin Smith is just the icing on this delicious, multi-tiered, multi-flavored cake!

That melody is a rephrased version of the main theme, "the instinct." He sneaks it into all of the character themes on the season 1 and 2 soundtracks. Mick Gordon said that the first album he ever bought was "killer cuts," the original Robin Beanland soundtrack for the original killer instinct game. Mick Gordon loves killer instinct. I think this is the hardest he's ever worked on any soundtrack. It's easily his best work. The game is also really fun, but this soundtrack is peerless. Each song has hours of research poured into it. Everything from lyrics to which instruments to use to what would fit the character.

There's a documentary on Hold Back to Black called "Composing Instinct", where Mick Gordon shows the work that went on behind the scenes for this track and a handful of others. It's 108 minutes, but if you split up the reactions by track that's about 8 videos of free content, Unc 👀
