Thanks for the review Jonathan. I purchased the limited run MIJ Fender Boxer Series Tele recently. I loved the Humbucker pickups and tonal options it gave but I had to return it however as the bone nut was not cut correctly which resulted in string buzzing. It just goes to show that MIJ guitars can also suffer from the dreaded quality control issues. I expected more from a Japanese made Fender guitar. We live and learn!

long story. in the early 80's Fender was sold out to new owners and they wanted to open a Fender manufactory in Japan to make "cheap" Fenders while the North American branch got overhauled and expanded into Mexico. this happened 2-3 later, at which point the Japanese Fenders became the "experimental" wing of Fender. the reason Fender restricted the Japanese Fenders to unusual designs is because in that 2-3 year window Fender Japan made some of the best Fenders ever made. even Japanese Squiers from the period are HIGHLY sought after. Fender couldn't have the Japanese models outshining the North American models so they haven't been "allowed" to make "trad" Fenders ever since. until recently. the JV modified models out of Japan now are remakes of those famous 80's Japanese Fenders. maybe TOO faithful remakes when you look at the truss rod access.

I have decided that other than the pickups and perhaps the woods used, and maybe the amp is also key....BUT it really boils down the the player...YOU dear Jonathan could rock a $20 thrift shop guitar ! ☺ Beautiful Tele...personally I would have preferred a different pick guard but I was never consulted in the design. Ha !

You never disappoint on the Intro Jon. Master Class 😃👏👏👏👏 It’s a very similar setup to my G&L Asat Deluxe. But with stronger pickups. I preferred the single coil in the bridge to the humbucker tone. It looks like a really well made guitar 😃👍👍👍

I'd love if they came out with this kind of tele featuring P90's or Cunifes. Your choice of material to demo the guitar gives a good idea of what it's doing. Sounds great! I wonder if recent MIJ Yamaha Revstars got them thinking....?

I'm gonna pass I've come to the conclusion I really only like the ash tray bridge. Tele or otherwise. I had an HH tele did really feel the love. Swapped out the bridge & bridge pickup now it is wonderful. Just my take on it. But great video as always.😎

It like an aerodyne with a pickguard. Still pretty tonally clear, but definitively muddier than a traditional Telecaster. Fender Japan makes rad stuff. Think they could add a Silent Siren neck and a kill switch, maybe, though?

I think Fender decides what can be called a Telecaster and not. They’ve been making teles with humbuckers since the 70’s after all
