Love it guys, glad that you saw the calves also. Often wondered about how it could affect other animals that eat birds with Bird flu. That sea urchin, never seen one in real life 😮 💙

If you ever go to shetland you'll see literally hundreds of them lying around! Yeah it's really sad with the bird flu, it's been passed down to seals, otters and dolphins which is horrific!! Hopefully they just keep away from them but they're always getting into mischief! Thanks for watching as always guys 💙

Cool pics of the calves. Do the orca actually eat the birds? Can they catch them? Were those net structures in the water salmon farms do you think?
@findingfinsuk Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes this pod has been seen catching, playing with and eating birds. When the birds are moulting it can make them pretty much flightless so are sitting 'ducks' for the orca. Yeah they are salmon farms, horrific for the environment, wildlife and of course the fish inside them 💙

hmm could they have been teaching the new little pod member how to hunt the birds you think? just a guess haha
@findingfinsuk Жыл бұрын
Possibly, this pod has been seen eating birds before! Hopefully for their sake they keep away from them though

As far as we're aware it's in use, could be wrong though

Does anyone know whether this pod was a transient orca or resident orca? I was looking this up online and wasn’t sure if this was a myth or true?
@findingfinsuk7 ай бұрын
What do you mean a myth? If Scotland have orca? It's the 27s pod, part of the Northern Isles community.
@TheFootballbantsTV7 ай бұрын
@@findingfinsuk No I know you have orca in Scotland. What I read on google apparently theirs two types of orca known as transient or resident orca. They have adapted over time/evolved. So apparently theirs two types of orca in the ocean and was wondering if you knew what this meant? Apparently the transient version of the orca is larger in size and hunts differently
@findingfinsuk7 ай бұрын
@TheFootballbantsTV ah OK, the transient and resident terms are used in other countries such as USA and pacific north west. Our ones have been known to be North Atlantic type 1 (Northern Isles community) and North Atlantic Type 2 (west coast community) who are much bigger. There has been talk about scrapping these terms though.

@@findingfinsuk That’s very interesting I am visiting John o groats this July and planning to go to Orkney. I was wondering if that’s a good time to see orca. Obviously luck of the draw. I’m presuming you usually see them around May. But I really like wildlife so looking forward to visiting the island. Any suggestions of places to go?

@TheFootballbantsTV yeah it's a good time of year! We had our best ever mainland orca encounter around John o Groats at the beginning of this month! There's a short video of it on our channel, the full one will be out soon. St John's Point, Ness of Duncansby, Noss Head, and any headlands all the way down from wick to Helmsdale are great spots. Good look out places on orkney include Hoxa Head, Burwick, Yesnaby, Brough of Birsay. Hopefully you have some luck and there's some around when you visit!
